The announcement describes an opportunity for closer collaboration and knowledge-sharing on later-life lending; it does not announce a new borrower product or change its terms.
What has been announced?
The ERC describes Brilliant Solutions as a mortgage club and specialist distributor working with advisers and lenders across the UK. The firm’s managing director, Michael Craig, said it was pleased to join and that advisers need to be able to consider different options for customers as later-life lending becomes an important part of the mortgage market.
ERC head of commercial and business development Tom Brett said the Council wants to bring more of the mortgage market into conversations about later-life borrowing, share knowledge and engage more advisers. ERC chief executive Jim Boyd said borrowing needs can change with age, so mortgage and later-life lending markets should not operate in isolation.
Those are the organizations’ stated aims. The announcement reports no measured result from the membership.

What could membership mean for advisers?
Brilliant Solutions’ specialist-distribution and mortgage-club experience may give it a role in the Council’s discussions with firms across the mortgage market. The Council says it hopes the membership will support collaboration and raise adviser awareness of later-life lending options. For advisers, the practical significance is the prospect of more knowledge-sharing between market participants—not a specific new service or recommendation described in the announcement.
What is the Equity Release Council?
The Equity Release Council describes itself as the representative trade body for the UK equity release and later-life lending sector. It says its standards and safeguards guide member firms in advice and products. The Council is not a regulator, and a firm’s membership is not regulatory approval of a particular product or an endorsement that equity release is right for an individual.
