Its three optical modes and four included shaped-bokeh inserts give you creative options, but the effect depends on the scene—and the lens has no autofocus or electronic contacts.
What does the Tri-Sight’s bokeh control do?
A dedicated ring changes the position of a floating optical group, varying spherical-aberration correction and altering the appearance of out-of-focus highlights. It is an optical rendering control, not a guarantee that every background will look soft or attractive. Digital Camera World describes the same mechanism in its 30 September 2026 launch coverage.

Three rendering modes
- Smooth: Brightin Star describes this setting as softening highlights and giving the image an overall softer look.
- Prime: The standard, natural rendering mode.
- Foams: Produces more defined-edged, bubble-like highlights, according to the manufacturer.
These are different rendering choices rather than quality rankings. Which one works best depends on the subject, background, and look you want.
Four shaped-bokeh inserts
The lens includes four rear inserts that shape out-of-focus points of light into a rounded triangle, butterfly, four-leaf clover, or star. The inserts alter the light passing through the lens; Brightin Star notes that they may darken the corners. They are included with the lens, not separate add-ons.
#1 Best Overall
- 50 millimeter focal length and maximum aperture of f/1.8
- Great for portraits, action, and nighttime photography; Angle of view (horizontal, vertical, diagonal): 40º, 27º,46º
- Minimum focusing distance of 1.15 feet (0.35 meter) and a maximum magnification of 0.21x
- Stepping motor (STM) delivers near silent, continuous move Servo AF for movies and smooth AF for stills
- 80 millimetre effective focal length on APS C cameras, 50 millimetre on full frame cameras. Lens construction: 6 elements in 5 groups
When will bubble or shaped bokeh be visible?
The effect needs suitable highlights in the out-of-focus part of the frame. Brightin Star recommends shooting at f/2 with small, bright points of light behind the subject. A string of distant lights can make a more useful background for demonstrating the inserts or Foams mode than a plain wall or evenly lit scene. The result still varies with composition and focus distance; the lens does not turn every background into bubbles or shapes.
Is this 50mm lens compatible with your camera?
The lens is designed for full-frame sensors and is offered in Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and L-mount versions. Choose the version that matches your camera’s mount; these variants are not interchangeable without an appropriate adaptation solution, which the cited product information does not establish.
Rank #2
- Compact, Lightweight Fixed 50 millimeter Focal Length Lens.
- Large F, 1.8 Aperture for Low-Light Photography and Creative Background Blur
- A Stepping Motor (Gear-Type STM) Provides Smooth and Quiet Continuous AF During Video Recording, As Well As When Shooting Photos
- Control Ring for Direct Setting Changes
- Optimized Lens Placement and Coatings Help Deliver Outstanding Color Balance, While Minimizing Ghosting and Flare
Focusing is manual. The lens has no electronic contacts, so do not expect autofocus or electronic communication between lens and camera. That makes it a better fit for photographers comfortable setting focus themselves than for anyone who depends on autofocus for fast-moving subjects.
How close can it focus, and how do you store it?
Brightin Star lists different minimum focusing distances for each rendering mode:
Rank #3

| Prime | 0.8 m |
| Foams | 0.7 m |
The front optical assembly extends in Foams mode. Before fitting the cap, switch the ring to Prime and focus to infinity to retract the assembly. Digital Camera World also reports the extension and recommends storing the lens in Prime.
What other specifications matter?
Brightin Star lists a seven-element, six-group optical design, an f/2 maximum aperture, an 11-blade diaphragm, stepless aperture control, and a metal body. These specifications describe the design; the available cited coverage does not provide independent comparative sharpness or image-quality test results.

The clearest distinction is creative control: the Tri-Sight lets you change out-of-focus highlight rendering and use shaped inserts, while a conventional 50mm prime offers its own fixed optical character. The trade-off is that the Tri-Sight is manual focus only and lacks electronic contacts. The available sources do not establish a comparative advantage in sharpness or overall image quality, so there is no evidence-based basis here to rank it above competing primes on those measures.
