The Breville LAD358 combines desiccant dehumidification with air purification, and Breville rates it for rooms up to 50 m² with extraction of up to 8 litres per 24 hours. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified results. Its 4 L tank holds less than the stated daily extraction capacity, so frequent emptying may be needed unless you use continuous drainage.
What the LAD358 does—and what its capacity figures mean
The LAD358 is a desiccant dehumidifier. Breville says this technology is particularly suitable for cooler environments, but that is a general manufacturer comparison rather than a measured head-to-head result for this model. The product is rated for rooms up to 50 m² and extraction up to 8 litres per 24 hours. Both figures are maximum manufacturer claims; actual water removal depends on conditions and should not be assumed from the headline rating alone. The instruction book gives the water tank a 4 L capacity. That is the amount it can hold at one time, not a daily extraction limit: the unit can collect more than 4 L over a day if the tank is emptied, or if water drains continuously through the included 1 m hose into a suitable drain. When the tank is full, the unit indicates this and shuts off. The LAD358 instruction book explains the tank and operation.
Modes and everyday use
Auto and Continuous
The manual lists Auto and Continuous modes for dehumidification. These suit routine humidity management and situations where you want the unit to keep operating rather than target a particular short task. The public product information does not establish a measured humidity-control accuracy or a quantified operating cost.

Laundry
Laundry mode runs at high speed with a 30% relative-humidity target, according to the manual. It is intended for drying laundry indoors; the setting should not be mistaken for evidence of a specific drying time.
Purify Only
Purify Only runs the air-purification function without dehumidifying. This separation is useful if you want filtration without deliberately removing moisture, though it does not establish how much cleaner the air in a particular room will become.

Heat, noise, and room placement
Breville warns that operation may raise room temperature by 1°C to 4°C, especially in an enclosed space. This is a manufacturer warning in the 2024 instruction book, not an independent measurement for every room or operating condition. Consider the effect carefully in a small bedroom or other space where extra warmth could be uncomfortable.

It therefore does not support a public numeric verdict on measured water removal, energy use, or noise. Look for accessible comparative test results on those measures, as well as ease of use and running costs, before treating the unit’s performance as independently established. Filter, maintenance, and replacement
The LAD358 uses a Breville LAD070 AntiViral HEPA-13 filter alongside a washable pre-filter. Breville advises cleaning filters at least monthly and specifically warns not to wash the HEPA-13 filter. The company recommends replacing the LAD070 after about 4 to 6 months or 2,160 operating hours, depending on environment and use; these are its maintenance recommendations, not a guarantee of filter life.
Breville’s LAD070 page claims the filter material reduces SARS-CoV-2 particles by 99.97%, Influenza A particles by 99.99%, and removes 99.97% of fine particles and allergens down to 0.3 μm, citing ISO 18184 testing. These are manufacturer claims about filter-material testing; they do not establish whole-room exposure reduction, infection prevention, or clinical outcomes. The page identifies the LAD070 as compatible with the LAD358. Its listed Australian price was A$64.95 and it was out of stock when accessed, so check the page for current price and availability: Breville LAD070 replacement filter.

Breville’s Smart Dry BAD708 is a compressor dehumidifier and a useful same-brand alternative if extraction capacity or larger stated coverage matters more than the LAD358’s desiccant design and purifier function.
