What the Oracle Touch is—and how it works
The BES990BSS sits between a fully manual espresso setup and a push-button coffee maker. You select a drink on the touchscreen, adjust coffee strength and milk texture or temperature, and can save up to eight personalized drinks. Breville lists espresso, long black, latte, flat white, and cappuccino among the choices. The machine automates several preparation steps, but it still uses a conventional portafilter workflow.

Breville’s US specifications describe an integrated conical burr grinder with 45 grind settings. It automatically grinds, doses, and tamps into the 58 mm portafilter, with a stated 22 g dose. Those figures and specifications are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements presented here.

The machine has two stainless-steel boilers, a heated group head, and PID temperature control. Breville says this arrangement allows espresso extraction and milk steaming to happen simultaneously. It also describes low-pressure pre-infusion followed by 9-bar extraction; that is a manufacturer specification, not a measured result.

Automatic milk texturing is intended to reduce the manual work involved in making milk drinks. Buyers who want to control every part of steaming should consider whether that automation suits their preferred workflow. The available evidence does not establish independent taste, shot-consistency, or milk-frothing scores for this review.
Is the Breville Oracle Touch BES990BSS worth buying?
It may suit someone who wants guided drink preparation and substantial automation without giving up a portafilter-based machine. The touchscreen recipes, adjustable milk settings, and simultaneous brew-and-steam design are its clearest practical advantages. Its size and discontinued status matter just as much: buyers need enough counter space and should weigh the condition and support prospects of the specific unit on offer.

CHOICE’s Australian product page lists AUD $3,499 and a two-year warranty. These are figures on that regional page, not a verified current offer or a universal price and warranty. ProductWise’s July 2026 page summarizes owner reports of reliability and repair concerns, but those reports are not an independently measured failure rate.
Size and counter fit
The US configuration page gives dimensions of 16.2 × 15.2 × 14.4 inches. CHOICE lists 45 × 39 × 38 cm for the Australian BES990BSS. These are regional listings, so check the dimensions for the exact model and market you are considering. Measure counter depth and allow for overhead clearance before buying.

What to check before buying remaining or used stock
- Exact model: Confirm the BES990BSS suffix and the regional configuration; model specifications and support can differ by market.
- Condition and service: Ask whether the machine has been serviced and request relevant service records. Inspect the machine and included parts before the return period expires.
- Included accessories: Confirm which accessories are supplied rather than assuming a used unit includes everything in a new-box package.
- Returns and warranty: Get the return terms in writing. Verify whether any warranty transfers to you and applies in your country; do not assume discontinued stock has active manufacturer coverage.

Water filter and routine care
The BES990 instruction manual recommends soaking the water filter before installation and replacing it after three months. Breville lists a water filter and cleaning kit among the included accessories. Compare the BES990 against alternatives by matching the features that affect your daily use, rather than relying on an unsupported overall ranking:
