Its feature list makes it versatile on paper, but Breville marks it discontinued, so a used unit is only a sensible buy if its attachments work and any needed replacement parts are available where you live. What the BFP580 includes
The BFP580’s toolkit is designed to cover slicing, shredding, dough preparation, peeling and blending, alongside everyday chopping. Breville lists these accessories on its product page:

The slicer’s adjustment range is useful if you want control over slice thickness, while the shredder and dough blade extend the machine beyond basic chopping. Those specifications establish the available tasks, not the quality or consistency of the results.
Breville says the peeler can handle up to seven potatoes in 30 seconds. Its instruction book describes batches of six to seven potatoes and a typical peeling time of 25–30 seconds, advising users to monitor progress. This is manufacturer guidance, not an independent performance test.

Capacity and specifications: check which source you are reading
Breville’s instruction book gives the processing bowl as 11 cups for dry ingredients or 8 cups for thick liquids. It specifies a 1.4-litre BPA-free blender jug. Breville’s New Zealand product page instead lists a 1.5-litre jug, so the official sources do not agree on that capacity.

The capacity and dimensions on CHOICE’s public BFP580 listing differ: it gives bowl capacities of 2600 mL dry / 1900 mL wet and dimensions of 45 × 21 × 27 cm (H × W × D). These figures should be treated as CHOICE’s published specifications, not blended with Breville’s measurements; the available listings do not explain the differences.

The dimensions point to a fairly substantial countertop appliance, and the accessories add to the storage burden. If cupboard space matters, check that you have room not just for the base but also for the bowl, jug, discs, blades and storage tray.
How the controls and safety features work
The documented controls are straightforward: two speeds and a pulse function. The safety instructions, however, make correct assembly important. Breville’s manual says the bowl and lid must lock into place and that the spindle is required when using blades or discs. Incorrect use without the spindle can damage or fuse parts.

The bowl has a safety interlock, and the Quad blade has a braking system if the lid is unexpectedly opened. These protections do not replace careful assembly; follow the manual for fitting attachments and operating the machine.
How the BFP580 differs from the BFP560
The clearest model distinction in Breville’s shared BFP580/BFP560 instruction book is the blender jug: it belongs to the BFP580, not the BFP560. The manual says the BFP560 has the other tools but not the jug. That makes checking the model number essential when buying a loose bundle or replacement attachment. A set of accessories that fits the broader Kitchen Wizz 8 family may still be missing the feature that distinguishes the Plus model.

What public independent-review information establishes
CHOICE’s public page marks the BFP580 as a discontinued model and shows some listing details, including 1000 W, four blades, a one-year warranty field and a displayed price of $319. That price is listing information, not a current selling price. The warranty field is not a promise of coverage for a second-hand purchase.

Is a used BFP580 worth buying?
It may suit someone who wants both a food processor and blender in one older appliance and can verify the complete kit. Because Breville says the model is discontinued, condition and local access to compatible parts matter more than the original feature list. Breville’s New Zealand product page lists replacement assemblies, but a listing does not prove that a part is in stock or available in your region.
Before paying, ask the seller to demonstrate the parts that matter to you and check for damage:
- Confirm the model label says BFP580; do not assume a BFP560 includes the blender jug.
- Ask to see the bowl and lid lock into place, then test pulse and both speeds.
- If the blender is important, confirm the jug and blender assembly are present and working.
- Check that the spindle, Quad blade, adjustable slicer, reversible shredder, dough blade and peeler are included if you expect to use them.
- Inspect the bowl, lid, jug and drive interfaces for cracks, unusual wear or damage.
- Identify any missing or worn component by its BFP580 part name and confirm compatibility and local stock with the seller or supplier before treating it as replaceable.
Breville’s product page names parts including the bowl processing assembly, disc peeler, lid jug assembly, jug blender assembly, base, storage tray, dough blade, Quad blade kit, shred assembly, spindle, slice assembly and food pusher. Those listings are useful for identifying a needed component, but availability and prices can vary by region and over time.
Verdict
The BFP580’s appeal is its range: one base supports a processor toolset and a blender attachment, with a useful spread of discs and blades. Its age changes the buying equation. Treat it as a used appliance whose value depends on verified condition, a complete set of the attachments you need, and confirmed access to compatible parts—not simply its original specifications.
