Whether it is worth its price depends on how much you value those conveniences compared with the cost of alternatives, and on drink quality that this article cannot confirm from manufacturer material alone.
This review is based on Breville’s documented specifications, accessories and official instruction book, together with the limited independent coverage available at the time of writing. It is not based on our own hands-on testing, so it does not rate espresso taste, milk texture, noise or long-term reliability.

What the BES880 is
The BES880 is a specific model in Breville’s Barista Touch line. Breville’s US listing identifies it as BES880BSS1BUS1 and presents it as an espresso machine with an integrated grinder, a touchscreen menu, pre-programmed drinks, saved custom settings and automatic milk texturing. The manufacturer’s product page heading, “Swipe, select and customize,” is marketing copy; it describes the intended workflow, not proven ease of use.

Documented features
The table below lists what Breville states for the US configuration. Every value is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement.
| Feature | Breville’s stated value (US listing) |
|---|---|
| Heating system | ThermoJet, with a three-second heat-up claim |
| Extraction profile | Low-pressure pre-infusion followed by nine-bar extraction |
| Pump | 15-bar Italian pump |
| Temperature control | PID |
| Grinder | Hardened steel conical burrs, 30 grind settings, adjustable grind control |
| Presets | Five pre-programmed café favorites and eight customizable coffee settings |
| Shots | One- or two-shot selections, plus hot water |
| Milk | Automatic milk texturing with programmable temperature and texture; manual texturing listed as an option; automatic steam-wand cleaning |
| Portafilter and tamp | 54 mm portafilter; removable magnetic tamper |
| Power | 1680 W; 110–120 V (US) |
| Warranty | Two years (US listing; not transferable to other countries or channels) |
Breville’s claims about heat-up speed and extraction profile are useful for understanding the design. They do not establish cup temperature stability, shot consistency or whether the machine beats a manual setup for your beans.
Who the convenience features suit
The BES880 is built around three ideas: fewer decisions before each drink, repeatable settings, and milk handled by the machine. Those ideas fit particular buyers well.
- Households where more than one person makes drinks and wants a saved recipe to produce the same result.
- Buyers who find manual milk steaming the hardest part of home espresso and would rather accept a fixed texturing routine.
- People who want one countertop unit instead of a separate grinder, machine and milk frother.
- Those who make milk-based drinks most days and value a short cleanup routine more than full manual control.
It fits less well for buyers who want to tune every variable by hand, who already own a high-quality grinder they like, or who mainly drink black espresso and would rather spend the budget on grinding precision elsewhere.

Trade-offs to verify before buying
Three areas need direct testing or careful reading before you commit:
- Drink quality. Breville’s specification set does not tell you how the espresso or milk will taste. Watch side-by-side tasting or test brews with your own beans before judging.
- Learning curve. Presets reduce setup, but grind adjustment and the custom-setting menus still have to be learned. Ask whether the touchscreen flow suits you in a demonstration.
- Noise and footprint. The listing does not give noise figures. Measure your counter space and consider where the machine will sit during grinding and steaming.
What is in the box
The US listing includes a dosing funnel, a 54 mm full stainless-steel portafilter, single- and double-wall filter baskets, a 480 ml stainless-steel milk jug, a ClaroSwiss water filter, a Razor precision dose-trimming tool, a cleaning kit and a water-hardness test strip. Contents can differ by market or package revision, so confirm them on the live listing before purchase.
Size, capacity and fit
One US specification block gives dimensions of 15.7 × 12.6 × 12.4 inches, a weight of 21.8 lb, a half-pound bean hopper and a 67 oz water tank. A different product-page variant showed different dimensions. Measure the space you have, including clearance for the portafilter and any cabinet above, and confirm the figures for your SKU before relying on them.

Price and availability
At the time of writing, one Breville US search result showed $799.95 with $999.95 struck through, while another surfaced page showed $999.95. Prices, discounts and stock change often and vary by country, so check the current listing for your market on the day you buy. Do not treat any single price as a lasting benchmark.

Ownership and upkeep
Breville publishes an official BES880 instruction book covering setup, cleaning, the water filter, descaling and troubleshooting. Use the edition that matches your machine’s region and revision, because procedures can differ between versions.
Ownership costs fall into a few routine categories:
- Read the filter section of the instruction book and install the included ClaroSwiss filter before the first brew.
- Use the water-hardness test strip to decide how often the filter and descaling schedule apply to your water supply.
- Follow the cleaning sequence in the manual after milk drinks, including the steam-wand routine, and keep the included cleaning kit for routine maintenance.
- Run descaling on the schedule in the instruction book, and keep the descaling product recommended there.
The source material does not state the cost or interval of replacement filters or cleaning supplies, so check replacement part numbers and compatibility with your model before buying refills.

Warranty and repair support
The US listing states a two-year warranty. Terms differ by country and by purchase channel, so read the warranty card or regional Breville site for your market, and keep proof of purchase. Repair availability in your area is not established here and should be confirmed with Breville before you buy.

Independent reviews and owner reports
At least one recent independent review of the BES880 appeared in search results. Its excerpt did not describe a method or findings that can be checked, so this article does not use it for durability, failure-rate or satisfaction claims. Owner comments are individual experiences. Read several, look for repeated problems with the same part or software behavior, and weigh them against the warranty terms. A recent review of a newer Barista Touch Impress model is not evidence about the BES880.
How to compare the BES880 before buying
Set the BES880 against real alternatives using the same five checks, and verify each candidate’s current specifications and price on the same date:
- Workflow. Compare touchscreen presets and automatic milk with a machine that has fewer automated steps. Ask which one you would actually use each morning.
- Control and quality. List the grind, shot and milk adjustments each machine offers, then look for independent test results with your bean type.
- Footprint and capacity. Compare dimensions, water tank, bean hopper and clearance needs against your counter.
- Ownership. Compare included accessories, filter and cleaning needs, warranty length and region, and replacement-part availability.
- Price. Compare the total cost, including accessories you would need to buy separately, on the same date and in the same market.
Do not assume the BES880 is better, more reliable or better value than a competing machine unless you have comparable test data for both.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsVerdict
The BES880 is a reasonable choice for a home buyer who wants a single machine that handles grinding, presets and automatic milk, and who will keep up a filter and cleaning routine. It is a weaker fit for someone who wants full manual control, already has a grinder they trust, or cannot confirm the price, footprint and warranty for their own country. Before buying, check the current listing for your region and model number, read the manual revision that matches your unit, and try the workflow in person if you can. The convenience features are the reason to buy; whether they justify the price for you is a question for your own counter, your own beans and your own milk drinks.
