That makes it worth considering if you want help preparing the coffee puck without giving up hands-on espresso-making. It is not an automatic milk-frothing machine, and Breville’s specifications alone cannot establish how well it performs in everyday use.
What the Barista Express Impress does differently
The BES876 combines a steel conical burr grinder with Breville’s Impress Puck System. You grind directly into the portafilter; the machine assists with dosing and tamping, then you brew and manually texture milk with the steam wand. The system is designed to reduce some of the guesswork in puck preparation, not to make espresso automatically.

Breville says the assisted tamp applies 22 lb of pressure and finishes with a 7° twist. Its dose system uses the previous dose and tamp outcome to adjust the next grind. These are manufacturer descriptions of the workflow, not evidence that every dose or shot will be correct or repeatable.

The 15 bar figure is the pump rating; Breville describes the extraction stage as 9 bar. Do not treat those numbers as interchangeable. The US product page also lists a 54 mm portafilter and single- and double-wall baskets.
How much of the process is manual?
Grinding, dosing, and tamping
The grinder is built into the machine, and the Impress system assists with puck preparation. Breville lists 25 grind settings and says the dose adjusts based on the prior tamp outcome. You still need to choose beans, adjust the grind as needed, and learn how changes affect your shot. The official manual includes an adjustable upper burr for extending the grind range and advises changing one setting at a time.

Brewing and milk
The machine provides preset single- and double-shot options, hot water, adjustable brew temperature, and volumetric shot control according to Breville’s US listing. Milk texturing remains a hands-on task with the steam wand. If automatic milk frothing is a requirement, the word “Impress” should not be taken to mean that milk preparation is automated.

Counter space, setup, and upkeep
Breville lists the US configuration at 16.6 × 14.4 × 12.2 in. Measure the space available, including room above the machine for the hopper and access to the portafilter and steam wand. Those listed dimensions do not establish the clearance that will feel comfortable in your kitchen.
Setup and care are part of ownership, not optional extras. The official BES876 instruction book covers assembly, functions, cleaning, descaling, grind adjustment, and troubleshooting. It also describes a descale indicator and a descaling cycle; use the manual’s instructions for the procedure rather than improvising one.

Price, regional variants, and what to verify
Breville’s US product page showed different displayed prices—$799.95 on one page variant and $649.95 on another—when accessed in October 2026. Those changing page displays are not a dependable current price or a universal recommended price. Check the live retailer offer for your market. The US page also advertised a bean promotion, which is subject to change and terms.
Regional details matter. The US listing specifies 120 V and a two-year limited warranty. Sage’s UK page presents the product under the Sage brand and lists dimensions of 42.2 × 36.7 × 31 cm. Before ordering, verify the exact model suffix, voltage, warranty terms, price, and included accessories for your country and seller.
Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a built-in grinder and assistance with dosing and tamping, while retaining control over brewing and manual milk steaming.
- Look elsewhere if you want milk to froth automatically or prefer a machine that handles more of the espresso process for you.
- Check your setup first if counter space, local voltage, warranty coverage, or a particular accessory kit is decisive.
- Expect a learning curve if you want to adjust grind and brew settings; assisted puck preparation does not remove the need to learn the workflow.
Breville’s product page and manual establish what the BES876 is designed to do and what it includes in the US configuration. They do not establish shot repeatability, durability, comparative performance, noise, or value against other machines; those questions require independent testing or direct comparison.
