The route is unofficial homebrew software emulating the game’s Wii U version—not a native PS5 port. The demonstration is striking, but it does not establish that performance is consistent in every scene or that the setup is practical for ordinary PS5 owners.
How Breath of the Wild is running on PS5
The demonstration uses PS5CEMU-HAR, an unofficial homebrew app for jailbroken PS5 consoles. The project bundles Cemu, an emulator for Wii U games. In this case, Cemu runs the Wii U edition of Breath of the Wild; this is not the Switch version running through a Switch emulator.

GamesRadar reported on October 5, 2026, that the game was playable on a jailbroken PS5 and linked the work to GitHub user premohq. A technical report published by El Chapuzas Informático on October 6 identified the Wii U-to-Cemu route and described the showcased result as 4K at 30 fps. Those are reports about a demonstration, not a guarantee of results on every compatible console.
What the 4K and 30 fps figures mean
The PS5CEMU-HAR repository lists 3840×2160 output support and options for frame pacing, including 30 fps at 60 Hz and 60 fps at 120 Hz displays. That shows the project supports a 4K output mode; it does not, by itself, prove that every game sustains a particular frame rate. The 4K-at-30-fps figure applies to the reported Breath of the Wild demonstration.

GamesRadar’s October 5 report also describes the Switch 2 version as running at 1440p with 4K upscaling and 60 fps. Those specifications are GamesRadar’s comparison, not measurements independently verified here. The two figures therefore should not be treated as a controlled performance test between the consoles.
How the emulator route compares with playing on Nintendo hardware
| Consideration | Jailbroken PS5 demonstration | Nintendo route described by GamesRadar |
|---|---|---|
| What runs | Wii U version through Cemu in PS5CEMU-HAR. | GamesRadar describes a Switch 2 version. |
| Reported picture and frame rate | 4K at 30 fps for the demonstration, as reported by El Chapuzas Informático. | 1440p with 4K upscaling at 60 fps, as reported by GamesRadar; not independently verified here. |
| Access and setup | Requires a jailbroken PS5 capable of running homebrew and the unofficial app. | Uses Nintendo hardware; GamesRadar’s report recommends buying the game for Nintendo hardware. |
| What the evidence establishes | A reported demonstration, plus the project’s general compatibility claims—not guaranteed performance in every scene. | A performance comparison stated in GamesRadar’s report, not a benchmark conducted under matched conditions. |
The emulator clip is evidence that this route can work in a demonstration. It is not evidence that it is as reliable or straightforward as playing the game on Nintendo hardware. A reader reacting to the footage called it “so damn beautiful,” while another reaction favored Switch 2 at 60 fps; GamesRadar presented these as individual comments, not a poll of fans.
What PS5CEMU-HAR requires—and what it does not include
The project’s repository says the app is unofficial and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Sony, Cemu, or Azahar. It also says users must provide their own game files: the app does not include games, keys, firmware, or other copyrighted console data.
The repository says most Wii U games tried so far are playable, with video, controls, sound, and saves working. This is the project’s own broad compatibility description, not an independent test of every title or gameplay scene. Installation depends on whether the particular PS5’s firmware can run homebrew; the demonstration should not be read as a method available on every retail PS5.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the footage is notable—but not a new PlayStation edition
Breath of the Wild appearing on a PlayStation is remarkable because it is running through an unofficial emulator on modified hardware, not because Nintendo or Sony released the game for PS5. The reported 4K image is a technical showcase, while the 30 fps figure and the setup requirements matter to anyone comparing it with a conventional console experience.
For most players deciding how to play, the demonstration does not make a jailbroken PS5 a replacement for Nintendo hardware: it depends on homebrew compatibility and user-supplied game data, and the clip does not establish consistent performance. For emulator and console enthusiasts, it is a notable example of Wii U emulation running on PS5 hardware.
