Its strongest practical advantages are an IP67 rating, a carry handle, wired audio input, and USB-C phone charging. The trade-off is its substantial size and Bose’s listed US price of $399 as of October 4, 2026; whether that makes sense depends on how much speaker you need to carry and where you plan to use it.
What the SoundLink Max is designed for
Bose lists the SoundLink Max as a product sold from 2024. It measures 4.73 × 10.42 × 4.13 inches and weighs 4.9 lb, with a built-in handle for carrying. Those dimensions make it portable in the practical sense—easy to move from room to patio or take to a gathering—but not a compact speaker to slip into a small bag. Specifications are from Bose’s SoundLink Max product page.

Bose lists one 0.79-inch tweeter and two 2.5-inch midranges. Those specifications describe the stated drivers; they do not establish an independent assessment of loudness, bass, tonal balance, or how the speaker sounds in a particular room or outdoors. No hands-on listening test is available for this review, so a sound-quality verdict would go beyond the evidence.
Battery life and charging
Bose Support estimates up to 20 hours of playback at moderate volume, but only three hours at maximum volume. Treat the longer figure as a conditional manufacturer estimate, not a promise of 20 hours at every listening level. Bose lists charging time of up to five hours using a 3 A (15 W) supply; actual charging time varies with the supply. See Bose’s SoundLink Max specifications.

The speaker’s USB-C port is an input and output. Bose says it can charge a phone while music plays, a useful option when the speaker is away from an outlet. Bose does not list a microphone.
Outdoor protection and connections
IP67 rating
The SoundLink Max has an IP67 rating. Bose describes protection against dust and accidental immersion in water up to approximately 1 meter for as long as 30 minutes. That rating is useful for outdoor use, but it is not a guarantee against every kind of water exposure or damage; follow Bose’s care guidance and avoid treating the speaker as immune to water.
Bluetooth and wired audio
The speaker uses Bluetooth 5.4, with Bose stating a range of up to 30 feet (9 meters). It also has a 3.5 mm audio input for a wired source. Bose says two SoundLink Max speakers can be linked in stereo or party mode. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities, not a guarantee that every source or listening environment will behave identically.

SoundLink Max vs. SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen)
The SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is a smaller Bose alternative. The manufacturer specifications support a comparison of size class, battery estimate, connection options and intended use—not a claim that one sounds better. Bose lists the Flex’s battery estimate as up to 12 hours at moderate volume, along with IP67 protection and Bluetooth 5.3. See Bose’s SoundLink Max specifications and Bose’s SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) specifications.

Is the SoundLink Max worth its price?
Bose’s US product page listed the SoundLink Max at $399 on October 4, 2026. Price and availability can change and may differ by region. At that listed price, the case for choosing it rests on needing its larger portable format and specific features: a handle, IP67 protection, a 3.5 mm input, USB-C phone charging, and Bose’s speaker-linking modes. If a smaller speaker better fits your carry needs, the Flex is the more size-conscious comparison, though these specifications alone do not settle which sounds better or offers better value for a particular listener.
Bose’s US page also described a 30-day return policy and optional protection plans at the time the price was observed. Those terms can vary or change; check the current product page for the terms that apply to your purchase. Battery-service availability is not established here, so contact Bose or consult its current support options rather than assuming a replacement policy.
