Identify the red light before troubleshooting
First check the model name on the product label or in the Bose app. Then locate the indicator: it may be on the soundbar’s light bar, beneath its Microphone button, or on a separate bass module or surround-speaker receiver. Note whether it is solid, blinking, or flashing in a defined sequence. These details matter because Bose uses different status-light meanings across models and components.

What a red light means on Bose models

These are model-specific indications, not a universal Bose status code. In particular, do not treat a red microphone indicator as the same fault as a solid red light bar.
What to do if a Smart Soundbar light bar stays solid red
Bose’s troubleshooting guidance for Smart Soundbar products includes resetting the product, using Recovery mode if it became unresponsive during or after a software update, and manually updating its software if needed. Follow the instructions for your exact model rather than applying steps from another product’s manual. Bose’s Smart Soundbar owner’s guide says to contact customer service if the solid-red error remains.

For a four-pulse red sequence on a Soundbar 550, the manual describes the request as temporarily unavailable and advises trying again later. That is different from a light bar that remains solid red.
When the red light is on a microphone or accessory
Microphone indicator
If the red light is directly beneath the Microphone button on a Smart Soundbar, the microphones are disabled. Tap the button if you want to restore voice commands. This indicator alone does not mean the soundbar has a light-bar system error.

Bass module or surround-speaker receiver
Confirm which unit is lit before changing connections or replacing anything. The documented SoundTouch 130 flashing-red condition concerns communication with its bass module; the SoundTouch 300 blinking-red condition concerns the surround-speaker wireless receiver’s firmware. Use the status-light guidance for that component and model.

If the error does not clear
- Confirm the model and indicator location, then match the exact light pattern to that model’s official status-light table.
- For a persistent Smart Soundbar solid-red light, follow Bose’s reset or update recovery guidance for the model.
- Contact Bose customer service if the model’s manual directs you to do so or the prescribed recovery steps do not resolve the error.
The cited Bose instructions do not establish a universal replacement part or generic cable fix for a red light. Avoid buying a component based on the color alone.
