The standard Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) add immersive audio, USB-C audio and adaptive noise cancellation features, but the available evidence leaves two important buying questions open: how much those additions improve everyday listening, and whether they justify the launch price. Bose announced the headphones at $359 in the U.S. in August 2026. That is launch preorder pricing, not a verified current price. Tom’s Guide reports Bose’s battery ratings of up to 24 hours, or up to 18 hours with Immersive Audio active. The reported lack of wear detection is a practical drawback.
This is the regular QuietComfort model, not the more expensive-tier QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). The available sources establish the new model’s features and rated battery life, but do not provide a controlled head-to-head test that would support a definitive performance ranking against the Ultra or competing headphones.

What’s new in the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen)?
Bose announced the second-generation standard QuietComfort Headphones on August 6, 2026. The changes Bose describes include a refreshed design, TrueSpatial immersive-audio modes, ActiveSense enhancements in Aware Mode, and audio over USB-C. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent findings about sound quality or noise-cancelling performance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- TrueSpatial: Bose’s immersive-audio technology adds listening modes beyond conventional stereo playback.
- ActiveSense in Aware Mode: Bose says the adaptive feature helps manage sudden loud sounds while the headphones are in Aware Mode.
- USB-C audio: Bose says the supplied USB-C-to-USB-C cable carries audio as well as charging, allowing a wired digital-audio connection.
- Refreshed design: Bose identifies design and usability refinements, though the available material does not establish how the changes affect fit or comfort compared with the previous generation.
These additions broaden the standard QuietComfort feature set, but the sources available here do not establish that they make the headphones sound better, cancel more noise, or feel more comfortable than a particular rival.

- IMPROVED AUDIO PERFORMANCE: The addition of Bose TrueSpatial Technology gives listeners a more natural, immersive experience — no matter the content. QC Headphones (2nd Gen) now also feature high-fidelity lossless audio delivered by USB-C connection.
- LEGENDARY NOISE CANCELLING: Legendary Bose QuietControl noise cancelling technology includes updated ActiveSense Tech for adaptive acoustic noise reduction to smooth unwanted spikes in noise when listening in Aware Mode.
- MORE MODES: In addition to Quiet Mode for full noise cancelling and Aware Mode for transparency, these headphones now include Immersion, Cinema Mode, and ANR off. Cinema Mode enhances video content for an immersive experience with more layered sound.
Battery life: the rating depends on how you listen
Tom’s Guide reports Bose’s rated battery life as up to 24 hours per charge, dropping to up to 18 hours with Immersive Audio active. Bose’s product information says its battery testing used active noise cancelling and playback at 75 dBSPL. These are rated figures under stated conditions, not a guarantee of the runtime every listener will get.
| Listening setup | Reported maximum battery life | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Immersive Audio off | Up to 24 hours | Tom’s Guide reports Bose’s rating; Bose specifies ANC on and playback at 75 dBSPL for its battery test. |
| Immersive Audio on | Up to 18 hours | Tom’s Guide reports this rating with Immersive Audio active; it is not an independently measured runtime. |
Tom’s Guide also notes that the headphones do not have wear detection. Without automatic pause or sleep triggered by removing them, you may need to turn them off manually when you finish listening to avoid using battery unnecessarily.

Are they worth the price?
Bose announced U.S. preorders at $359, opening August 8, 2026, with shipping beginning August 13. That figure is the announced U.S. launch price; it does not confirm today’s price, stock, or availability in other countries. Check a current retailer listing before deciding whether the value makes sense for you.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The case for paying more than you would for a basic wireless headset is the combination of Bose’s noise-cancelling positioning with new immersive-audio modes and wired USB-C listening. The reservation is that those features alone do not tell you whether the headphones deliver better noise cancellation, comfort, or sound than another model at the price. The available review coverage does not establish those comparative results through a controlled test.

At launch pricing, they are easiest to justify if you specifically want Bose’s standard QuietComfort line and expect to use its immersive or wired USB-C features. If those additions are not priorities, compare the current price with other headphones and the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) rather than assuming the newer generation is automatically the better buy.
QuietComfort (2nd Gen) vs. QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen)
These are separate products, not alternate names for the same headphones. Bose’s August 2026 announcement names the standard model “QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen)”; “Ultra” identifies a distinct premium-tier product. What Hi-Fi? publishes a comparison between the standard and Ultra models, but the evidence here does not establish precise current differences in performance or value across every category.

| Decision point | What to compare | What is established here |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Current prices for each model in your region | Bose announced a U.S. preorder price of $359 for the standard model in August 2026. A current Ultra price is not established here. |
| Noise cancellation and comfort | How each model performs and feels for your own use | No controlled head-to-head result is established here. |
| Immersive listening | Whether the Ultra tier offers features you would actually use beyond the standard model’s TrueSpatial modes | The standard model has TrueSpatial; specific comparative feature differences are not established here. |
| Wired audio and usability | USB-C audio, controls and everyday convenience | Bose says the standard model supports audio and charging over the supplied USB-C cable. A complete model-by-model comparison is not established here. |
| Battery | Rated runtime with the features you plan to use | The standard model is rated up to 24 hours, or up to 18 hours with Immersive Audio, under the qualifications above. A comparable Ultra figure is not established here. |
Use a direct comparison to identify which specifications matter, then verify current model-specific details and prices. Do not assume that “Ultra” automatically means a better choice for your listening habits, or that the standard model matches it in performance.

What the available review evidence does—and doesn’t—show
Tom’s Guide reports the battery ratings and flags the absence of wear detection. Bose’s own product and support materials describe the product identity, features and battery-test conditions. Those sources establish useful buying facts, but they do not amount to a hands-on evaluation of sound, comfort, call quality, controls, or noise cancellation in different environments.
Best Value
- BREAKTHROUGH SPATIALIZED AUDIO: Super immersive sound spatializes everything, taking the music out of your head and placing it in front of you to push the boundaries of listening.
- NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES: Enjoy Bose’s best noise cancellation for headphones with Quiet Mode, turn on Aware Mode to hear more of your surroundings, or combine noise cancellation and Bose Immersive Audio with Immersion Mode.
- NEW CINEMA MODE: Bring video content to life like never before with Cinema Mode; spatialize and balance background sound and sound effects for movie-like immersion wherever you go.
- USB VOICE: Use the built-in mic to enjoy high-quality two-way communication for phone calls and video conferencing while connected via USB-C.
- ENHANCED LONG-LASTING BATTERY: Up to 30 hours of play time (23 with Immersive Audio)* keeps the music playing through even the longest listening sessions. Charge your headphones with the included USB-C cord and listen to music at the same time.
TechRadar’s coverage places Bose among the competitive noise-cancelling headphone market, but broad category coverage is not proof that this specific model beats Sony, Apple, the Ultra, or any other competitor. A fair comparison needs model-specific evidence and current regional pricing.
