Check the current price and seller before buying. At the same verified price, choose by features: the 2nd Gen adds spatial and Cinema listening modes, lossless USB audio, updated call-noise handling and a redesigned fit.
First, check whether the $169 offer is real
A Reddit search result dated October 6, 2026 reported a $169-plus-tax Prime Day price for QuietComfort headphones. That is one user’s report, not a verified Amazon listing, and it does not establish that the offer remains available on October 7. Check Amazon directly for the exact model, seller, stock, price and checkout total before treating $169 as a current deal. The reported price and its date are not a substitute for a live listing.

Price comparisons also need to be like-for-like and tied to a market and date. Bose’s UK comparison page showed £229.95 for the original and £299.95 for 2nd Gen when accessed; those are UK prices, not US prices. TechRadar reported an Amazon price of $229 for the original and a $359 launch price for 2nd Gen in an August 8, 2026 article. Those figures are historical reporting, not current offers. Bose Australia announced a $549.95 Australian preorder price on August 7, 2026, with general availability from August 13. Bose UK comparison · TechRadar price reporting · Bose Australia announcement

What Gen 1 already does
Bose describes the original QuietComfort Headphones as offering noise cancellation, Quiet, Aware and Custom listening modes, and analogue wired audio with an in-line microphone. The model is therefore not simply a stripped-down version that cannot handle basic noise-cancelling listening or wired use. Bose’s comparison says it lacks TrueSpatial audio and Cinema Mode. What the 2nd Gen adds
The newer model is officially named QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen)—not QuietComfort Ultra. Bose says it retains the original’s noise cancellation and Quiet and Aware modes, while adding features rather than replacing the basic use case. These are manufacturer descriptions; the available sources do not establish through independent testing how much better either generation sounds or cancels noise in everyday use. Bose’s comparison
| Feature | Original QuietComfort | QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) |
|---|---|---|
| Listening modes | Quiet, Aware and Custom, according to Bose | Quiet and Aware, plus Cinema and Immersion; TrueSpatial modes listed as Still, Motion and Cinema by Bose in its 2026 announcement |
| Wired audio | Analogue wired audio with an in-line microphone, according to Bose | Lossless wired playback over USB-C, up to 24-bit/48 kHz, according to Bose |
| Noise and calls | Noise cancellation and adaptive microphones for calls, according to Bose | Bose says ActiveSense in Aware Mode is updated and background-noise reduction for calls is improved; its 2026 announcement also describes a six-microphone system and ANC refinements for imperfect earcup seals and sudden noise |
| Design | Original design | Redesigned headband and earcups, according to Bose |
| Battery and wireless specifications | Not stated in the cited comparison | Up to 24 hours, or 18 hours with Immersive Audio; Bluetooth 5.4 and multipoint for two devices, per Bose product specifications |
| Included cables | Not stated in the cited comparison | Bose lists USB-C-to-USB-C and USB-C-to-3.5-mm cables in the box, along with a carry case |
2nd Gen’s 24-bit/48 kHz figure describes its supported wired USB playback, not a promise that every source or wireless connection will deliver that quality. Bose lists the 3.5-mm cable in the box, so a buyer does not need to purchase that cable separately for the listed analogue connection. Bose’s 2026 announcement · Bose 2nd Gen product specifications

Which generation should you buy?
Choose Gen 1 if the verified price is meaningfully lower
- You mainly want Bose’s Quiet and Aware modes, noise cancellation and analogue wired listening.
- You do not expect to use spatial audio, Cinema or Immersion modes, or lossless wired USB playback.
- The live, same-market price is low enough to justify giving up the newer model’s stated additions.
Choose 2nd Gen if its additions matter to how you listen
- You want to try TrueSpatial, Cinema or Immersion modes.
- You specifically want lossless wired audio over USB-C, with Bose specifying up to 24-bit/48 kHz.
- Updated ActiveSense, Bose’s stated call-noise improvements, or the redesigned headband and earcups are priorities.
- You value the listed 2nd Gen specifications: up to 24 hours of battery life, or 18 hours with Immersive Audio, Bluetooth 5.4 and multipoint for two devices. These are Bose product specifications, not independent test results.
For buyers deciding on sound quality or noise-cancelling strength alone, the cited information does not establish an independent performance winner. Treat Bose’s feature descriptions as a guide to what each model offers, not as proof that the new generation sounds or cancels noise better in a measured real-world comparison.
Bottom line on the Prime Day headline
Don’t reject the 2nd Gen solely because Gen 1 was reportedly $169: that price is not confirmed as a live offer. If you verify a substantial local price gap and do not need the newer features, Gen 1 remains a reasonable feature-based choice. If the price difference is small—or the spatial modes, USB lossless playback, call handling or redesign matter to you—the 2nd Gen’s additions may justify paying more. Compare current prices for the exact generation in your market before deciding.
