Bose is preparing a $99 wired-earbud product that reverses the industry’s wireless default: plug the earbuds into your phone, press a physical control and listen. Bose president Raza Haider described the appeal in a 2026 TechRadar interview: “You just pull them out and you plug them into your phone physically. There’s no app, no settings, and you just go — that’s it!”
The exact retail model name, connector, launch markets and live listing have not been established. Those details matter because newer phones may require an adapter, and availability can vary by region. The broader proposition is clear, however: wired listening removes charging, Bluetooth pairing and companion-app maintenance from the routine.

Why a wired Bose earbud is news
Wireless headphones are convenient until a battery is empty, a device refuses to reconnect or an app asks for an update before the first song. A phone-tethered earbud has a narrower job and fewer failure points. It draws power from the phone, uses a physical connection and can be ready immediately after being taken from a pocket or bag.
That simplicity is especially useful for commuting, travel, work calls and emergency listening. There is no separate battery to remember, no Bluetooth menu to open and no account or settings screen to configure. The trade-off is that the cable physically links you to the phone and must match the phone’s port, either directly or through an appropriate adapter.

How the QC 45 handles Bluetooth and a cable
The QuietComfort 45 is the clearest Bose option for people who want wireless convenience without giving up a wired fallback. It uses Bluetooth 5.1 and includes a 2.5-to-3.5mm cable, so it can continue playing from a compatible headphone jack or adapter when Bluetooth is unsuitable.
SoundGuys reports Bluetooth multipoint and a wireless range of up to nine metres. Bose’s user guide describes a more specific connection model: compatible QuietComfort headphones can store up to eight devices, remain actively connected to two, play audio from only one device at a time and automatically reconnect to the two most recently connected devices. Multipoint therefore reduces repeated pairing, but it does not mean both sources play simultaneously.

What the cable changes
A cable bypasses the QC 45’s wireless link, but the phone still needs a compatible analogue output or an adapter that supports audio. The 2.5mm end belongs in the headphones and the 3.5mm end in the source; USB-C-only phones may need a USB-C audio adapter. Check the phone, adapter and cable standards before buying a replacement.
Where the newer QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) fit
The newer QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) move to Bluetooth 5.4 and USB-C, with a stated 24-hour battery life and app-controlled multipoint. TechRadar’s 2026 coverage found the app customization limited, so buyers should not assume that a newer Bluetooth version automatically delivers more control. Who should choose the tethered approach
Choose wired earbuds when reliability is the priority
- You want audio immediately without checking a battery percentage.
- You dislike Bluetooth pairing, firmware prompts or companion apps.
- Your listening is mostly from one phone in a pocket, desk or bedside position.
- You prefer a physical connection for predictable playback.

- Confirm the exact Bose model name and the seller’s regional listing.
- Verify the connector. The available announcement does not establish whether the earbuds use a phone-specific plug, a standard analogue plug or another format.
- Check whether your phone has a matching port or needs an audio adapter.
- Look for the included control functions and microphone details in the final specification sheet.
- Confirm return terms, because connector compatibility and fit cannot be inferred from the $99 price alone.
The bottom line
Bose’s reported wired earbuds make a persuasive case for doing less. A plug eliminates pairing, charging and app dependence, which can be more valuable than wireless freedom for single-phone listening. The QC 45 remains the more flexible compromise: Bluetooth multipoint, active noise cancellation and a supplied cable, with a measured 24-hour-plus battery result. Until Bose publishes the wired product’s model, connector and regional availability, treat the $99 figure as a reported target rather than a complete buying specification.
