For premium over-ear noise cancellation, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are the strongest Bose pick supported by current reviews. The standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) cost less at launch, but early review evidence raises questions about their full-price value. If you want earbuds rather than headphones, the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) are a separate in-ear option—not a substitute for either over-ear model.
Which Bose over-ear headphones are worth buying?
The decision is mainly between the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) and the standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen). Compare the exact generation: these recommendations concern the second-generation 2026 models, not earlier versions that may still appear in stores.

| Model | Published U.S. price | What stands out | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) | $450 launch price, reported by What Hi-Fi? in 2026; current street prices may differ. | Best-supported premium Bose over-ear choice for noise cancellation; aptX Adaptive; reviewer-reported battery figures of 45 hours with ANC off or 30 hours with ANC on. | Premium price and strong competition. Reviewers also raised sound and build concerns; Immersive Audio lowers the reported battery figure to 23 hours. |
| QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) | $359 U.S. launch price, reported by What Hi-Fi? in 2026. | Lower launch price; a TechRadar reviewer praised comfort and sound. | The same reviewer criticized build, feature depth, the 24-hour battery claim, and value at full price. What Hi-Fi? said it had not tested this model when it published its comparison. |
Choose the Ultra for noise cancellation and extras
The Ultra is the more convincing choice if your priority is Bose’s premium over-ear ANC and feature set. What Hi-Fi? awarded it four stars and praised its noise blocking, while noting that stiff competition limits its appeal. In its 2026 guide, Tom’s Guide called the ANC the best it had experienced, but said sound and build did not fully meet expectations. These are reviewers’ evaluations, not results from independent testing for this article.
What Hi-Fi? described the ANC as “eliminating the deepest rumbles and the majority of mid-band hubbub we encounter on our daily travels.” That assessment supports the Ultra as the better-documented ANC pick; it does not mean it is the best-value headphone for every buyer.

- COMFORTABLE HEADPHONES: Plush over-ear cushions softly hug your ears, while a secure and comfortable padded band gently keeps your studio headphones in place for those extra-long listening sessions
- 2 LISTENING MODES: These wireless Bluetooth headphones feature Quiet and Aware Modes that let you toggle between full noise cancelling or full awareness of your surroundings for seamless sound control
- HIGH-FIDELITY AUDIO/EQ CONTROL: Supercharge your favorite tracks with high-fidelity audio and Adjustable EQ that puts you in control of the bass, mid-range, and treble for unmatched bold sound
- ALL DAY BATTERY LIFE: Bose QuietComfort wireless headphones provide up to 24 hours of battery on a single charge, plus a 15-minute charge via USB-C gives you up to 2.5 hours of additional play time
What Hi-Fi? reports 45 hours with ANC off and 30 hours with ANC on for the Ultra, falling to 23 hours with Immersive Audio. Treat those as published figures for specific listening modes, not a promise that every user will get the same runtime. The publication also notes aptX Adaptive support and USB-C wired listening, which may matter if you want those particular options.
Choose standard QuietComfort only when the price makes sense
The standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) launched in the U.S. at $359 on August 6, 2026. They are the lower-priced over-ear option, and a TechRadar reviewer liked their comfort and sound. That review also criticized the construction, limited feature depth, claimed 24-hour ANC-on battery life, and value at full price.

Review coverage is limited: What Hi-Fi? explicitly said it had not tested the standard model when publishing its comparison. So far, the evidence supports considering it when it is materially cheaper than the Ultra and you care more about comfortable listening than the Ultra’s extra features—not treating it as an established consensus pick. What Hi-Fi? reports 24 hours with ANC on and 18 hours in Immersive modes for this model.

QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen)
These are for buyers who specifically want an in-ear fit. Bose’s U.S. product page listed them at $299 when accessed on October 7, 2026, and claims up to six hours of playback, plus a wireless charging case. The page also lists Bose app customization. Fit and wearing preference should decide whether earbuds are right for you; their form factor makes them a different category from the over-ear QuietComfort models.

- LEGENDARY NOISE CANCELLATION: Effortlessly combines noise cancelling headphones technology with passive features so you can shut off the outside world, quiet distractions, and take music beyond the beat
- PREMIUM COMFORT: Plush earcup cushions softly hug your ears, while a secure and comfortable padded band gently keeps your over ear headphones in place for those extra-long listening sessions
- 2 LISTENING MODES: These wireless Bluetooth headphones feature Quiet and Aware Modes that let you toggle between full noise cancelling or full awareness of your surroundings for seamless sound control

- ALL DAY BATTERY LIFE: Bose QuietComfort wireless headphones provide up to 24 hours of battery on a single charge, plus a 15-minute charge gives you up to 2.5 hours of additional play time
- Noise cancellation: The Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) have the stronger documented reviewer case among these over-ear options.
- Battery: Match the published figure to your listening mode. ANC-on and Immersive Audio figures differ from ANC-off figures, and real-world runtime can vary.
- Codec and wired listening: What Hi-Fi? identifies aptX Adaptive and USB-C wired listening for the Ultra. Consider whether you need either before paying more for the flagship.
- Comfort and fit: Over-ear and in-ear models feel fundamentally different. For the standard QuietComfort, a reviewer praised comfort; for earbuds, fit is a personal deciding factor.
- Construction and feature depth: Early TechRadar criticism of the standard model’s build and features, and reviewer concerns about Ultra sound and build, are worth weighing alongside the ANC praise.
- Street price: Compare the current price gap. The standard model’s case is strongest when the saving over the Ultra is substantial enough to justify its simpler feature set.
Published U.S. prices are snapshots, not guaranteed current prices: the Ultra Headphones figure is its reported launch price, the standard Headphones figure is its reported launch price, and the Earbuds figure was Bose’s listed price on October 7, 2026. Retailer discounts, inventory, and availability in other countries are not established by those figures.
