Bosch and CHOICE list capacity as 15 place settings. That standardized figure indicates a relatively roomy layout on paper, but it does not guarantee that a particular household’s plates, pans or glasses will fit comfortably. The shape and size of your crockery, and how you load it, affect usable space.

The named options are HalfLoad Plus, VarioSpeed, IntensiveZone and HygienePlus. Bosch says VarioSpeed can reduce wash time by up to 50%; that is a maximum feature claim, not a promise that every program or load will finish in half the time. AquaSensor and LoadSensor are listed as sensors that adjust operation based on water conditions and load.
Water, energy, noise and drying: what the figures mean
The Bosch specification sheet gives Eco 45°C consumption as 12 L of water and 235 kWh of energy per year, and lists a 170-minute reference-program cycle time. It also lists a 4-star energy rating and 5-star water rating. CHOICE’s public listing shows the same claimed annual energy use and water use. These are published product figures, not independent measurements presented in the available public sources; the 235 kWh figure is tied to the Eco program and should not be compared with figures based on a different test or program basis.

Bosch specifies 42 dB and calls the machine “SuperSilence.” That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent noise measurement established here. The maker also lists heat-exchanger drying. No independent drying score is publicly visible in the cited sources, so the drying method alone cannot tell you how dry dishes will be in your kitchen.
Dimensions and installation checks
The Bosch sheet lists dimensions of 845 × 600 × 600 mm, with a height of 815 mm when the worktop is removed. CHOICE rounds the dimensions to 85 × 60 × 60 cm. CHOICE also lists a maximum hot-water inlet temperature of 60°C.

One report mentions recurring E:19-related repair work. Buying a used unit or choosing a replacement
For a used SMS68M38AU/D2
- Ask for the full model and variant details, purchase date, service records and any repair invoices.
- Run a complete cycle if possible. Check for leaks, persistent error indications, unusual noise, poor cleaning and standing water afterward.
- Inspect the baskets, VarioDrawer, spray arms, door seal and visible hoses for damage or wear.

The Bosch sheet lists a two-year warranty and a ten-year rust-through warranty for the inner tub, and describes AquaStop Plus as lifetime anti-flood protection. Those are manufacturer statements whose terms and eligibility should be checked against the original purchase documentation and applicable region; they are not a substitute for confirming the condition of a second-hand machine.
For a current replacement
Compare currently available models on like-for-like evidence. Check freestanding 60 cm fit, basket layout, capacity, water and energy figures measured on the same program basis, independent wash and drying scores, noise on a comparable basis, cycle duration, warranty and service support, and current price and stock. The public information available for this Bosch does not provide comparable independent performance scores, so its specifications alone cannot establish that it will outperform a newer alternative.
