Borderlands Online has re-entered playtesting with English localization, according to GamesRadar+’s October 5, 2026 report. The revival is a fan-led restoration—not an official relaunch announced by Borderlands publisher Take-Two—and the report describes an unfinished project with bugs and service interruptions.
What happened to Borderlands Online?
Borderlands Online was a short-lived MMO that launched only in China. It shut down 11 years before GamesRadar+’s October 2026 coverage. The game is now being restored by a fan team and has entered playtesting, but “saved” should not be taken to mean that it is complete, stable, or guaranteed to remain available. GamesRadar+ reported the project’s return.

Is the English version official?
No official publisher relaunch is established by the report. The restoration is fan-led, and the revived project is known as BLOL. GamesRadar+ says developer EpicNNG reported that Take-Two had not contacted the team to stop its work. That is the developer’s account, not confirmation from Take-Two, proof of authorization, or a legal ruling. EpicNNG also said he would not help get the game working again if the project faced a cease-and-desist or other legal action. GamesRadar+’s report is the source for those statements.

What did the restoration involve?
GamesRadar+ reports that EpicNNG, described as a modder, dataminer, and indie developer, obtained a build of Borderlands Online. The team worked past the login barrier and translated the game from Chinese into English. Localization also required adapting the interface: some elements were resized to accommodate English text, and new HUD elements were made to replace Chinese-language versions. The report says the restoration took almost a year and a half to reach playtesting.

Can you play BLOL online or offline?
GamesRadar+ reported that BLOL could be played online or offline at the time of its coverage. The project was described as non-monetized. However, that report does not provide a download link, installation steps, system requirements, or current server status, so it does not establish how a reader can install it or whether it remains accessible now. Check for a current project announcement before attempting to download anything; the report alone is not an access guide.

This is a work in progress, not a polished replacement service. GamesRadar+ relayed EpicNNG’s warning to “expect bugs, broken skills, animations, server outages, and more inconveniences” while the project is improved. Those are reported cautions, not firsthand test results, and server availability can change.
