Its two-button, retro typewriter-style body lets you turn pages, scroll, or control media without touching the reader. The design is appealing and the controls are genuinely useful in bed or at a desk, but Tappy is not a universal Kindle or Kobo remote: independent testing found that it paired inconsistently with non-BOOX devices and often sent volume commands instead of turning pages.
What BOOX Tappy does
Tappy is a compact Bluetooth accessory intended to keep your hand away from a BOOX screen while reading. BOOX lists three operating modes: Reading, Browsing, and Multimedia. Reading Mode handles page interaction, Browsing Mode is intended for scrolling, and Multimedia Mode provides media controls.

BOOX’s launch announcement on May 7, 2026, positions Tappy for readers using a device on a desk, stand, or bedside mount. The company says the battery can last for weeks on one charge. Charging uses USB-C, and a small indicator light shows device status.
The official product description sums up the use case as flipping pages or scrolling “without ever shifting your grip or reaching for the screen.” That is particularly useful when a reader is lying down, holding a device in one hand, or using a stand at a distance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Design, size, and controls
Tappy measures 43 × 37 × 25 mm and weighs approximately 29 g, according to the BOOX store. It has two round buttons, two spare keycaps, an indicator light, and a USB-C port.
TechRadar’s reviewer described the body as retro and typewriter-like, with a satisfying but quiet click. Those are subjective reviewer observations rather than laboratory measurements, but they explain why Tappy stands out from plain miniature remotes. Replaceable keycaps also give the accessory a more distinctive, customizable feel.

Which devices officially support Tappy?
BOOX names the Note Air5 C, Palma 2 Pro, and other BOOX devices running firmware V4.2 or later with Bluetooth support. Because support depends on both hardware and firmware, check the exact model and software version before buying.
- Confirm that the BOOX model has Bluetooth.
- Check that its firmware is version 4.2 or later.
- Verify that the reading app accepts the commands assigned by Tappy’s Reading Mode.
“BOOX device” alone is not a sufficient compatibility guarantee. Older models, unsupported firmware, or apps with different input mappings may not respond as expected.

Does it work with Kindle, Kobo, phones, or computers?
Do not buy Tappy expecting guaranteed page turning on every e-reader. TechRadar reported that Tappy paired with a Kobo Libra Colour but did not turn its pages. Three Kindle devices in the same review did not detect Tappy as a Bluetooth device at all.
The reviewer also connected it to an Android digital notebook, an iPhone, and a MacBook. On those hosts, Tappy mainly behaved as a volume control. An Android phone did connect successfully and supported all three modes, but its default Reading Mode controlled volume rather than changing pages. The exact result depends on the host operating system, app, and command mapping.

| Host | Observed result | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| Supported BOOX hardware with compatible firmware | Designed for page turning, scrolling, and media modes | Safest fit; verify model and app |
| Kobo Libra Colour | Paired but did not turn pages in testing | Do not assume Kobo page turning |
| Three Kindle devices | Did not detect Tappy as a Bluetooth device | No reliable Kindle support established |
| Android phone, iPhone, MacBook, Android notebook | Connected in testing, generally acted as volume control | Useful only if those controls suit your app |
How pairing and modes work
Pairing uses Bluetooth; TechRadar reports Bluetooth 5.4 and an approximate 10 m range. After connecting, select the mode that matches the host’s expected commands. Reading Mode is intended for page interaction, Browsing Mode for scrolling, and Multimedia Mode for media control.

If no compatible mapping exists, Tappy cannot turn pages on that host merely because Bluetooth pairing succeeded.

Price and alternatives
The BOOX store lists Tappy at US$25.99. TechRadar reports regional pricing of $25.99, €29.99, and AU$49 in 2026. Prices, taxes, shipping, and stock can vary by region.
Android Central reported a competing DuRoBo Moodi at $30.99 in the United States in 2026. Its maker positions it as compatible with a broad range of e-readers, tablets, and smartphones, but that is a manufacturer claim reported by the publication, not independent compatibility testing. Compare actual page-turn behavior on your specific device rather than relying on a broad compatibility label.
| Consideration | BOOX Tappy | What to verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Wireless page turning, scrolling, and media control | Whether your app accepts its commands |
| Official price | US$25.99; €29.99; AU$49 reported for 2026 regions | Current regional price and stock |
| Charging | USB-C | Whether you already have a suitable cable |
| Battery | BOOX claims weeks of use per charge | Your usage pattern; no independent endurance figure is established |
| Physical extras | Two spare keycaps | Preferred button feel and replacement options |
Is Tappy worth $25.99?
For a compatible BOOX owner who reads from a stand or in bed, Tappy’s small size, quiet buttons, USB-C charging, and dedicated reading function make $25.99 a reasonable convenience purchase. The value comes from avoiding repeated reaches toward the screen, not from adding features to an unsupported reader.
For a Kindle or Kobo owner, the purchase is difficult to justify without confirmed support for the exact model and app. Pairing alone is not enough: the accessory must produce page commands that the reader recognizes. Buyers using phones or computers should expect volume or media behavior unless their software provides a way to remap those inputs.
Before you buy: a compatibility checklist
- Identify the exact BOOX model or non-BOOX host.
- For BOOX hardware, confirm Bluetooth and firmware V4.2 or later.
- Check the reading app’s support for volume-key, keyboard, or accessibility controls.
- Decide whether scrolling or media control would still be useful if page turning fails.
- Confirm the current regional price, shipping, return policy, and stock.
Tappy’s strongest case is narrow but clear: it is a stylish, compact hands-free controller for supported BOOX readers. Its cute physical design is a bonus; compatibility, not appearance, should determine the purchase.
