It is therefore closer to an open Android ePaper tablet than to a closed-format e-reader. The important qualification is that Android compatibility does not make every app feel like it does on a conventional LCD or OLED tablet: refresh behavior, color resolution, and the app’s own design still matter.

Installing an app
- Connect the Note Air6 C to Wi-Fi and complete Android setup.
- Open the Google Play Store, sign in to your Google account, and search for the application you need.
- Install the app, then place it on the home screen, in the dock, or in a widget if you want quicker access.
- Use the device’s available refresh controls when an app contains scrolling, animation, or frequent page changes. The exact controls and names can vary with firmware.
BOOX says its processor and Super Refresh system deliver up to 40% faster page turns. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent benchmark. The same launch material and product information describe smooth handling of large color PDFs and multiple academic apps; treat that wording as BOOX’s stated capability rather than a promise of identical performance in every application.
What Android app use feels like on E Ink
Reading, writing, reference work, calendars, email, and other mostly static interfaces are natural fits for an E Ink panel. Apps designed around rapid animation, video, games, or constant scrolling may require a faster refresh mode and can still look less fluid than on a conventional tablet. Color illustrations and charts remain useful, but the panel’s color layer is lower resolution than its monochrome layer, as explained below.
Handwriting, conversion, and note organization
The included BOOX Pen3 detects 4,096 pressure levels. Native note tools include seven brush types, adjustable stroke widths and colors, geometric shapes, a Lasso selection tool, handwriting-to-text conversion, calendar export, outlines, tags, search, and Dual Notes split-screen work.

A practical note-taking workflow
- Open the native Notes application and create a notebook for the project, class, or meeting.
- Select one of the seven brush types, then set stroke width and color to match the kind of writing or annotation you are doing.
- Use geometric-shape tools for diagrams and the Lasso tool to select handwriting or drawn elements without rewriting the page.
- Run handwriting-to-text conversion on the selected passage when you need editable text. Recognition quality depends on the legibility of the writing and the language settings available on the tablet.
- Add an outline, tags, or searchable terms so the notebook can be found later. BOOX also supports sending meeting points to a calendar through the Lasso workflow.
- Open Dual Notes when you need two note views or a note beside another task in a split-screen arrangement.
BOOX summarizes one part of this workflow as: “Edit notes, convert handwriting to text, and send meeting points to your calendar with the Lasso tool.” The quoted functions are vendor-described features; the exact controls can change with software updates.

How handwriting and book annotations sync

Cloud and mobile access
- Sign in to the same BOOX account on the Note Air6 C and the destination web or mobile service.
- Enable the relevant note or annotation synchronization option in the current firmware.
- Allow the tablet to connect to Wi-Fi and complete an upload before checking the web portal or BOOX Assistant.
- On another device, open the matching regional portal or BOOX Assistant and confirm that the notebook or annotated book appears.
Server selection and synchronization behavior can depend on firmware and region. If a notebook is missing, confirm that both devices use the same account and region, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and check for a pending firmware update before assuming the data is lost.
Direct transfers with BOOXDrop
BOOXDrop provides two-way local-network transfers between the tablet and a computer or mobile device. It is useful for moving files without waiting for cloud synchronization: put both devices on the same LAN, open BOOXDrop, and follow its pairing or transfer prompt. Because it is a LAN workflow, it is separate from the Onyx cloud account and does not by itself create a cloud backup.
How many colors does the screen show?
The 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 panel supports 4,096 colors. BOOX specifies 300 ppi for black-and-white content and 150 ppi for color content. In practice, text rendered in monochrome benefits from the higher density, while colored diagrams, highlights, comics, and charts use the lower color resolution.

Reading features
The display has a flat cover lens and an anti-glare orientation described in BOOX’s launch information. A dual-tone front light lets you combine warmer and cooler light, which is useful when switching between daytime work and evening reading. In the NeoReader application, you can highlight, underline, add margin notes, adjust layout controls, and use dark mode.
What the color specification does and does not mean
- It does mean the device can show thousands of distinct color values for diagrams, annotations, and illustrated documents.
- It does not mean color text has the same sharpness as 300 ppi black-and-white text; BOOX’s stated color resolution is 150 ppi.
- It does not make the panel an emissive display. Color E Ink is intended for comfortable, mostly static reading and writing rather than high-frame-rate visual work.
How long does the battery last?
BOOX publishes a 3,700mAh lithium-ion polymer battery. It does not publish a standardized hours-per-charge or days-per-charge result in the cited product and launch material. Capacity alone cannot be converted into a reliable runtime promise.
Factors that change endurance
- Front-light brightness and the balance between warm and cool light.
- How often Wi-Fi and Bluetooth remain connected.
- Refresh mode and how frequently the screen changes.
- Android applications running in the foreground or background.
- Audio use through the dual speakers or microphone-related workloads.
- Whether you are reading static pages, writing continuously, or opening large color PDFs.
If battery life is a deciding factor, compare devices only with the same brightness, wireless settings, refresh mode, application mix, and workload. A controlled personal check is more meaningful than converting the 3,700mAh figure into an assumed number of days.
Hardware, ports, and what is in the box
The specification lists a fingerprint-enabled power button, dual speakers, a microphone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, and a microSD card slot in addition to 64GB of internal storage. The combination is aimed at people who want an ePaper notebook that can also hold a sizable app and document library.

Use comparable conditions rather than a single headline specification. The following checklist keeps the comparison focused on the things that affect daily work.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
The Play Store is not visible
Confirm that Android setup is complete, the tablet is connected to Wi-Fi, and you are looking in the app list rather than only on the initial home screen. If the interface still differs, check the installed firmware and BOOX’s current support guidance; labels and availability can vary by region and software version.

Verify the same BOOX account, the correct regional portal, and a completed Wi-Fi upload. Cloud synchronization and BOOXDrop are different workflows, so a file sent over the local network will not automatically appear in cloud history.

Handwriting conversion is inaccurate
Select a smaller, clearly written passage with the Lasso tool, verify the recognition language, and convert again. Keep the original handwritten page: conversion creates editable text but does not make the source writing more legible.
Color pages look softer than expected
That is consistent with the specified 150 ppi color resolution. Use the device’s layout and contrast controls, keep monochrome text where possible, and reserve color for diagrams, highlights, and illustrations where the difference is less distracting.
