What can be described reliably is Bootstrap’s own accordion component. Bootstrap 5.3 documents an accordion built with its Collapse JavaScript plugin. The implementation details below describe Bootstrap, not confirmed features of the V13 template.

A trigger button inside a heading controls a collapsible panel. Bootstrap’s example connects them with data-bs-toggle="collapse", a data-bs-target pointing to the panel, and accessibility attributes including aria-expanded and aria-controls. See the Bootstrap 5.3 accordion documentation.

Choose whether one or several panels can stay open
- Without
data-bs-parent, opening a panel does not automatically close the others. - With
data-bs-parentreferencing the accordion container, panels coordinate so that opening one closes another.
Bootstrap also documents how to show a panel on initial load: add .show to the panel, remove .collapsed from its trigger, and set that button’s aria-expanded value to true. Keep the visual state and the accessibility state aligned.
Accessibility details to check when implementing an accordion
The W3C WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices Guide (APG) describes an accordion as stacked interactive headings that control associated panels. Its Accordion Pattern recommends a button within each heading, an aria-expanded value that reflects whether the panel is visible, and an aria-controls relationship to the corresponding panel.

- Use real heading elements at an appropriate level for the page’s structure, with a button as the interactive control inside each heading.
- Give each controlled panel a unique, valid target ID and ensure the button’s
aria-controlspoints to it. - Update
aria-expandedwhenever the panel opens or closes; it should betruewhen visible andfalsewhen hidden. - A panel may use
role="region", but this is optional. The APG cautions against creating too many region landmarks when many panels can be open at once.
Bootstrap’s Collapse documentation says its implementation does not provide every optional keyboard interaction in the APG accordion pattern. If your requirements call for those interactions, add and test custom JavaScript rather than assuming Bootstrap supplies the complete APG keyboard behavior. The note is in the Bootstrap 5.1 Collapse documentation; it describes that version’s documentation and should not be treated as evidence about the unidentified V13 template.
Motion, styling, and version considerations
Bootstrap documents that accordion animation responds to the user’s prefers-reduced-motion setting. It also supports customization through CSS and Bootstrap variables. Those are documented Bootstrap capabilities, not verified V13 template features. Confirm which Bootstrap version a template actually uses before adapting version-specific markup or styles; no version compatibility can be established for V13 without its source files or publisher details.
