Boosted FPS Modpack: Complete Minecraft Server Setup and Performance Guide

By Freedom251 Team · · 11 min read

To run Boosted FPS with friends, install the same Minecraft version, loader branch (Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge), and Boosted FPS release on every client and on the server where the loader requires server-side mods. Do not combine Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge files or copy a pack built for one Minecraft version into another. The safest process is to download the official server-capable pack files, install the matching loader, preserve the pack’s mods and config directories, start once to generate the world, then have every player join with an identical installation.

This guide covers the version decision, required files, one-click and manual deployment, first startup, client-side FPS tuning, updates, backups, and the loader mismatches that most often prevent a successful connection.

What Boosted FPS is—and what it changes on a server

Boosted FPS is a Minecraft Java performance and quality-of-life modpack published by GamerPotion. Its project pages describe performance-focused mods and tweaks, Sodium support or ports, and an in-game Mods configuration menu. Separate project branches exist for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, with links to Quilt and RPG variants. Those branches are not interchangeable distributions: each one targets a particular loader and Minecraft version.

The pack primarily improves rendering and client quality of life. A server still runs the Minecraft world, simulation, permissions, and networking. Some mods are client-only; others must be present on the server because they add content, alter networking, or are marked as required by the loader. Treat the pack’s supplied server files as authoritative rather than guessing which jars can be removed.

Loader branches currently shown by the project

Branch Version evidence Use it when Important caution
Fabric The files page lists Boosted FPS Fabric-1.7.5.zip for Minecraft 26.3, released October 13, 2026. You want the Fabric ecosystem and have selected the exact Minecraft version supported by that release. Install a Fabric server loader for the same Minecraft version; do not add Forge or NeoForge jars.
Forge The highlighted project release is Boosted FPS Forge-1.20.1-1.2.2.zip. You are deliberately running the Forge release for Minecraft 1.20.1. OptiFine has a documented conflict with Embeddium/Rubidium and Oculus; those components must be disabled before testing OptiFine.
NeoForge The project has a separate NeoForge page; no single current release number was published. The NeoForge page offers a release matching your chosen Minecraft version. Verify the exact NeoForge/Minecraft pair on the download page before installing.

Version information is time-sensitive. The Fabric 1.7.5 and Forge 1.2.2 examples above are the releases identified on October 13–15, 2026, not a promise that they remain current. Recheck the relevant project files page whenever you create or update a server.

Choose the Minecraft version and loader before downloading anything

  1. Choose the Minecraft version. Decide whether your world will run on the version supported by the pack release you intend to use. A client on 1.20.1 cannot join a 26.3 server simply because both use Boosted FPS.
  2. Choose one loader branch. Select Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge. The loader is part of the installation identity, not an optional preference after the files are downloaded.
  3. Open the matching official project page. Use the Boosted FPS CurseForge page for the selected branch, or the listed Modrinth counterpart for the Fabric branch. Confirm the file name, Minecraft version, and loader in the release details.
  4. Record the choice. Put the Minecraft version, loader, pack release, and download date in the server’s change log. This makes it much easier to diagnose a player who installed a different file.
  5. Distribute the same release. Give players the exact pack version or an export produced from that version. “The same modpack” is not precise enough when several releases are available.

Never mix a Fabric configuration with Forge mods, substitute a NeoForge jar for a Forge jar, or copy only the newest individual mods into an older pack. A mixed directory can start successfully and still fail when a client joins, making the mismatch harder to identify.

Server files you need

A normal deployment contains more than a single mod archive. Start with a clean server directory and keep a backup of any existing world before replacing files.

Item Why it matters Where it comes from
Matching server loader Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge loads the server-side jars for the selected Minecraft version. The loader’s installer or the host panel’s loader selector for that Minecraft version.
mods directory Contains the pack’s mod jars. Removing a required jar can cause a startup or join failure. The matching Boosted FPS server pack or exported pack files.
config directory Preserves the pack’s intended settings and compatibility values. The matching pack files; allow the server to generate missing configuration on first start.
Pack-specific directories Some releases include additional folders for scripts, defaults, libraries, or other resources. Copy every directory included by the official server pack unless its instructions explicitly exclude it.
World and server configuration Stores the world, EULA acknowledgement, network port, difficulty, and other ordinary server state. Generated or edited during the normal loader/server setup.

The Boosted FPS project pages do not publish a universal RAM minimum, CPU requirement, Java version, or player-capacity limit. Those values depend on Minecraft version, loader, world complexity, view distance, other mods, and the host environment. Do not use an invented numeric target as a compatibility guarantee.

Three ways to deploy the pack

Deployment route Best for Advantages Trade-offs
One-click managed installation Players who want a host panel to create the loader and pack layout. Usually provides a guided loader choice, file installation, backups, and a Start/Stop control. Availability, supported versions, update timing, and backup retention vary by host. Confirm that the panel offers the exact Boosted FPS branch you selected.
Manual SFTP upload Administrators who already have a server and want control over files. Preserves the official mods, config, and pack-specific directories; easy to keep a local backup and change log. You must install the correct loader, upload files, accept the EULA where applicable, and diagnose logs yourself.
DIY assembly from individual mods Advanced users with a specific, tested mod selection. Maximum control over which mods are installed. It is not the same as installing Boosted FPS. Dependency, version, and configuration mistakes become your responsibility, and the pack’s tested combination may no longer apply.

For a first server, use the official pack files and the loader that matches your chosen Minecraft version. Use one-click deployment only after confirming the host’s version list; use SFTP when you need direct backup and update control.

Manual server installation, step by step

1. Prepare and back up the directory

Create a new directory for the server or stop the existing server cleanly before changing it. Copy the world, mods, config, loader files, and server properties to a separate backup location. Do not experiment on the only copy of a world.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

2. Install the matching loader

Install the Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge server loader for the exact Minecraft version selected in the pack release. Follow the loader installer’s server option or the host panel’s equivalent. A loader for the right family but the wrong Minecraft version is still incompatible.

3. Upload the pack files

Using SFTP or the host’s file manager, upload the server pack. Preserve the directory names and capitalization, especially mods and config. If the archive includes pack-specific directories, upload those too. Do not unzip a client-only launcher profile over the server directory unless the pack instructions identify it as a server pack.

4. Make the first start

Use the host panel’s Start action or the launch script generated by the loader. The exact command, Java executable, and memory flags depend on the loader, Minecraft version, and host; there is no universal Boosted FPS command line. Watch the live console rather than assuming that a process appearing briefly means the server is ready.

5. Complete ordinary server initialization

Accept the Minecraft EULA through the generated EULA file where required, then set the network port, server name, difficulty, whitelist, and operator permissions through the normal server configuration. Keep the default port unless your host or network design requires another one, and open or forward that port only on the machine running the server.

6. Stop cleanly after generation

Once the server has created its world and configuration, stop it from the console or panel rather than killing the process. A clean stop flushes world data and makes the first backup useful.

7. Verify the installation

Inspect the startup log for the expected Minecraft version and loader. Check that the intended pack jars are in mods, that no second copy of a mod exists under a different file name, and that configuration files were created in the expected location.

8. Start again and test with one client

Start the server again and connect from a client installed with the identical Minecraft version, loader, and Boosted FPS release. Test joining, leaving, and rejoining before inviting everyone. If one test client works but another does not, compare the second client’s file and loader versions instead of changing server performance settings.

Getting friends connected

Every player should use a matching installation identity. Send them the exact release name and loader rather than only a download page.

  • Match the Minecraft version exactly, including the distinction between releases such as 1.20.1 and 26.3.
  • Match Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge; a similarly named loader is not interchangeable.
  • Match the Boosted FPS release, not merely the same major branch.
  • Remove duplicate jars and manually added mods while diagnosing a connection failure.
  • Use the server address and port supplied by the host or network configuration.
  • Keep a copy of the server log and the client crash report when asking for help.

Render distance, shaders, and VSync are client settings. Changing them can alter a player’s frame rate but cannot repair a loader or mod mismatch on the server.

Increase FPS without destabilizing the pack

Begin with render distance

The Fabric and Forge project descriptions show low render-distance examples of about 4–5 for maximizing FPS. Set a low value first, confirm that the game is stable, and raise it gradually while watching frame pacing and memory use. A larger value makes the client load and draw more terrain; it is not automatically better for multiplayer play.

Use VSync for tearing or excessive frame rate

Enable VSync when the frame rate is higher than the monitor’s refresh rate or when horizontal tearing is visible. VSync can make motion cleaner, although some systems may feel more responsive with it disabled. Treat this as a per-client display choice, not a server optimization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Add shaders only with sufficient headroom

Shaders are optional. Enable them after the base pack works and use a conservative preset first. If frame time becomes inconsistent, disable shaders before changing pack files; removing a visual effect is safer than deleting performance mods at random.

Handle OptiFine only on the relevant Forge setup

The Forge project page documents a compatibility requirement: disable Embeddium/Rubidium and Oculus before testing OptiFine. This instruction applies to the Forge configuration that contains those components. Do not remove Fabric or NeoForge mods based on a Forge-only note, and do not troubleshoot an OptiFine crash by changing server files first.

Change one setting at a time

  1. Record the current render distance, VSync, shader, and mod configuration.
  2. Change one client setting.
  3. Play or benchmark the same scene for several minutes.
  4. Revert the last change if crashes, stutter, or visual corruption appear.
  5. Only after the client is stable should you test another setting.

No universal FPS multiplier is published for Boosted FPS. Results vary with GPU, CPU, drivers, resolution, world area, and shader choice, so treat the pack’s performance focus as a compatibility goal rather than a guaranteed percentage increase.

Server-side performance practices

Keep the server stable before chasing a higher client frame rate. Use the loader and pack release recommended for the world, avoid adding untested mods, and retain a clean backup before every change. If the server console reports a mod dependency or registry error, fix that compatibility issue before lowering render distance or changing graphics settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because no universal hardware or player-capacity specification is published for the pack, size the machine from observed resource use. Watch CPU load, memory pressure, disk activity, and tick warnings while the intended number of players explores the actual world. Record those observations in the change log; they are more useful for your installation than a generic RAM number.

Troubleshooting: symptom to action

Symptom Likely cause Action
The server exits during startup. Wrong loader/version, missing dependency, duplicate jar, or damaged upload. Read the first error in the server log, verify Minecraft and loader versions, remove duplicate or manually added mods, and re-upload the matching pack files from a backup.
A client is refused during login. Client and server use different Minecraft versions, loaders, or pack releases. Compare the exact release name and loader on both ends. Reinstall the client pack rather than copying random jars.
The server starts, but nobody can join. Network address/port configuration or loader/mod mismatch. Check the host’s address and port, firewall or forwarding rules, then inspect both server and client logs for a handshake or registry error.
The client crashes after adding OptiFine. Forge conflict with Embeddium/Rubidium and Oculus. On the Forge setup only, disable the documented conflicting components, then test with a backup of the original configuration.
FPS is still low. High render distance, shaders, VSync behavior, resolution, or hardware limits. Lower render distance toward the documented 4–5 example, disable shaders temporarily, and test VSync according to whether tearing or refresh-rate limits are the issue.
A world or configuration disappears after an update. Files were overwritten without a backup or the update was applied while running. Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, then update the client and server together in a separate copy.

Updating Boosted FPS safely

  1. Stop the server cleanly and make a dated backup of the world and complete server directory.
  2. Check the branch’s current files page and confirm the new Minecraft version, loader, and pack release.
  3. Read the release notes for changed dependencies or required migration steps.
  4. Update a copy of the server first; do not overwrite the only working installation.
  5. Replace the pack files as a set, preserving any world data and retaining the old config until the release instructions say it can be regenerated.
  6. Start the test copy, inspect logs, and connect with a client updated to the same release.
  7. Only after a successful test should you schedule the production update. Give every player the same version before reopening the server.

When rolling back, restore the world and pack files together. A world saved after a newer mod or Minecraft version may not be safely opened by an older installation, so keep dated backups rather than relying on a single “latest” copy.

One-click hosting versus self-managed files

A managed Minecraft host can be convenient when its panel offers one-click Boosted FPS deployment, automatic updates, and a backup interface. Confirm the exact branch and Minecraft version before creating the server, and check whether the panel lets you download backups and inspect logs. Automatic updates are useful only if you can delay them until clients are ready.

Self-managed SFTP is preferable when you need direct control over the pack archive, configuration, rollback point, and update schedule. In either model, the technical rule is unchanged: the server and every client must use a matched Minecraft version, loader, and Boosted FPS release. Hosting automation does not make mixed versions compatible.

Practical pre-launch checklist

  • Selected one Minecraft version and one loader branch.
  • Downloaded the matching Boosted FPS release from the official project page.
  • Installed the corresponding server loader.
  • Uploaded mods, config, and every pack-specific directory.
  • Created a backup before the first world start and before every update.
  • Completed the EULA and ordinary network configuration.
  • Started once, checked logs, stopped cleanly, and started again.
  • Tested a connection with one identically configured client.
  • Distributed the exact release name to all players.
  • Left render distance, shaders, and VSync changes to individual clients.
