The BMX SolidSafe Air 5K is built for people who want a magnetic phone power bank without adding much thickness to a pocket kit. BMX lists it at 6.8mm thick at its thinnest edge, with a 5,000mAh battery, up to 15W Qi2 wireless output and up to 20W USB-C output. Those are manufacturer-published specifications; the practical trade-off is straightforward: the Air favors slim, phone-first carry over the extra reserve of a larger battery.
How slim is the SolidSafe Air 5K?
BMX lists the Air as 6.8mm thick at its thinnest edge. That gives it a strong claim to a place in a compact everyday-carry kit, where a thicker battery can make a phone-and-power-bank combination feel cumbersome. New Atlas reviewer Abhimanyu Ghoshal described it as “an impossibly slim model at just 6.8 mm – that’s thinner than most phones on the market today.” That is the reviewer’s comparison, not a measured comparison with every phone.

“Slimmest” needs qualification. Macworld reviewer Simon Jary called it the slimmest semi-solid-state 5K Qi2 power bank available in his experience, and New Atlas described it as “possibly the slimmest.” Neither assessment establishes a universal market record: there is no comprehensive thickness comparison across all competing power banks.
What charging does it offer?
The Air pairs a 5,000mAh rated capacity with wireless and wired charging. BMX specifies up to 15W Qi2 wireless output and up to 20W USB-C output. The wireless option suits a magnetic phone-first setup; USB-C gives you a cable-based alternative. New Atlas reports that the bank can charge two devices at once and has four LED indicators for checking its remaining charge.
#1 Best Overall
- WORLD'S THINNEST SEMI-SOLID-STATE 5,000MAH: At just 6.8mm at its thinnest point, the Air is the slimmest semi-solid-state Qi2 power bank you can buy — the semi-solid-state design supports this slim form factor while helping the cells stay stable and reducing fire risk. It sits flush against your iPhone and slips into a pocket, slim bag or clutch. TechRadar Pro CES 2026 Picks Award Winner.
- SEMI-SOLID-STATE SAFETY, BUILT FOR TRAVEL: Unlike conventional lithium-ion banks with a flammable liquid electrolyte, SolidSafe Air's semi-solid-state cells sharply cut the liquid component — lowering risk at the cell level and staying stable under heat, stress and impact. It's not a circuit-only fix but a fundamental change in chemistry. At 18.5Wh, it's airline carry-on ready.
- 15W QI2 MAGNETIC + 20W USB-C: Qi2-certified, MagSafe-compatible magnetic charging snaps onto iPhone 17, 16, 15, 14, 13 and 12 with precise, secure alignment, while the USB-C port delivers up to 20W when you're in a hurry. The 5,000mAh cell gives a modern iPhone roughly one full top-up, and you can charge wired and wireless at the same time.
- TITANIUM SHELL, BUILT TO LAST: A titanium-reinforced shell resists dents and drops, and titanium's high thermal conductivity helps draw heat away from the cells and dissipate it at the surface during charging. It's premium protection that keeps the Air tough and travel-ready in a remarkably slim form.
- CCC CERTIFIED FOR TRAVEL: CCC certified for battery compliance and travel in China, with FCC, CE and UKCA listings for other regions. Built-in circuit safeguards cover overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent and short circuits. Magnetic charging suits MagSafe iPhones or a thin compatible case; for Pixel and other Android phones, use a magnetic case or the 20W USB-C port.
The capacity figure is not a guaranteed number of phone recharges. The sources do not establish a tested recharge count, and actual results depend on the phone, charging method and conditions. Treat 5,000mAh as a nominal capacity for comparing battery sizes, not a promise of a full refill for any particular handset.
Magnetic compatibility
Qi2 wireless charging is most convenient with a compatible phone or case that has magnetic backing. New Atlas mentions a magnetic-ring workaround for phones or cases without built-in magnetic backing; it is optional compatibility context, not a required part of the power bank. Check your device and case setup before relying on magnetic alignment.

Does semi-solid-state mean safer?
No battery should be treated as risk-free. BMX describes the Air’s cell as semi-solid-state and says it uses less liquid electrolyte to help reduce fire risk. “Semi-solid-state” does not mean fully solid-state, and the manufacturer’s risk-reduction claim is not a guarantee against overheating, ignition or other battery failure. The available coverage does not establish a quantified safety advantage through independent testing or regulatory findings.

The Air makes sense when reducing carry bulk matters more than maximizing capacity. For readers who need more reserve, New Atlas identifies BMX’s SolidSafe 10K as the same-brand alternative. It has a reported 10,000mAh capacity and up to 30W wired charging, but is thicker and heavier than the Air.

- SEMI-SOLID-STATE SAFETY, BUILT FOR TRAVEL: Semi-solid-state cells contain far less flammable liquid electrolyte than ordinary lithium-ion, helping reduce fire risk at the cell level, while the aluminum housing helps dissipate heat. Built-in safeguards cover overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent and short circuits, and under 100Wh it's airline carry-on ready.
- ULTRA-SLIM 5,000MAH EVERYDAY TOP-UP: Sized for real life, not spec sheets — the 5,000mAh cell gives a modern iPhone a strong boost toward a full charge, varying by phone, usage and wired vs. wireless. The dense semi-solid-state design keeps it slim enough to slip into a pocket or carry-on: the travel charger you bring when a light pack beats a heavy brick.
- QI2-CERTIFIED 15W MAGNETIC CHARGING: A strong, precisely aligned magnet snaps onto iPhone 17, 16, 15, 14, 13 and 12 and stays locked while you scroll, text or walk — no slipping, no repositioning. As a Qi2-certified, MagSafe-compatible charger, it holds far more securely than loose, generic wireless pads, so you can keep using your phone as it charges.
- FULL-COLOR LCD DISPLAY: A crisp color screen shows exact battery percentage plus live input and output wattage in real time — no blinking lights to decode. You see precisely how much power is left and how fast you're charging at a glance, which makes it easy to plan top-ups whether you're commuting, at an event or on a long travel day.
- USB-C IN & OUT + BUILT-IN CABLE LANYARD: The USB-C port charges your phone faster over a cable and recharges the 5K itself quickly, so it's ready for the next day, and it also powers earbuds and other accessories. The built-in lanyard doubles as a USB-C cable, so a charging cord is always attached — nothing extra to pack or lose.
| Model | Capacity | Output | Carry profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| SolidSafe Air 5K | 5,000mAh; BMX specifications | Up to 15W Qi2 wireless and up to 20W USB-C; BMX product page | 6.8mm at the thinnest edge; BMX product page |
| SolidSafe 10K | 10,000mAh; reported by New Atlas | Up to 30W wired; reported by New Atlas | Thicker and heavier than the Air; New Atlas does not state exact dimensions or weight |
The comparison is useful at a high level, but it does not establish an exact bulk difference or a recharge count for either model. Choose the Air for a thinner pocket setup; consider the 10K if the extra capacity and wired output matter more than size and weight.

Who should consider it?
- Good fit: someone who wants a thin magnetic power bank for phone-first everyday carry and values a low-profile setup.
- Less suitable: someone who prioritizes more battery capacity or wants a larger wired-output option in the same product line; the reported 10K model is the more capacity-oriented choice.
- Check first: confirm that your phone or case supports the magnetic wireless setup you intend to use, and decide whether 5,000mAh is enough for your needs without assuming a fixed number of recharges.
