For fewer routine battery changes and automatic time adjustment, choose the Bluetooth-equipped, solar-powered GA-B2100. Choose the traditional GA-2100 if you prefer a standard replaceable battery, a slightly thinner and lighter watch, or a 24-hour countdown timer. This comparison is specifically between Casio’s GA-B2100 and GA-2100, the closest Bluetooth-versus-traditional pair in the 2100 line. Both retain the line’s octagonal design, shock resistance and 200 m water-resistance rating.

GA-B2100 vs. GA-2100: the differences that matter

Casio’s specifications show that these watches share the same basic dimensions in length and width, but differ in power, connected features and some timing functions. The size and weight difference is minimal; the more useful deciding factors are whether you want solar charging and app tools, and how you use the countdown timer.

What Bluetooth does on a G-Shock

On the GA-B2100, Bluetooth Low Energy connects the watch to Casio’s CASIO WATCHES smartphone app. Casio describes features including automatic time adjustment, easier watch settings, app-based world-time selection, a time-and-place log, reminders and a phone finder. The product page lists automatic time adjustment four times daily.

This is not a general-purpose smartwatch connection: the reviewed model documentation does not establish phone-notification mirroring, music control, GPS tracking or health tracking. You do not need a live phone connection for ordinary timekeeping after setting the watch. Bluetooth is most useful if you value automatic adjustment or expect to use its app tools.

Solar charging versus replaceable batteries

GA-B2100: less routine battery replacement, but it still needs light

Tough Solar is the GA-B2100’s main upkeep advantage. Casio’s stated operating figures depend on charge and conditions: its current product specifications give about seven months on a charged rechargeable battery with normal use and no light exposure, while Casio’s 2022 announcement gives about 18 months in darkness with power saving enabled after a full charge. Solar charging avoids the traditional model’s routine battery-replacement schedule when the watch receives sufficient light, but it still relies on a rechargeable cell and charge conditions.

GA-2100: a familiar battery schedule

The GA-2100 uses two SR726W batteries, with an approximate three-year life according to Casio. That makes it a straightforward choice if you prefer replaceable batteries and do not want to pair a watch with a phone. The stated life is an estimate, not a guarantee for every pattern of use.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the GA-B2100 if

  • You want Tough Solar charging instead of the traditional model’s scheduled battery changes.
  • You want automatic time adjustment or expect to use app-based settings and utilities.
  • You often change world-time settings and would value access to the app’s approximately 300-city list.

Choose the GA-2100 if

  • You prefer an ordinary replaceable-battery watch and do not need smartphone linking.
  • You use a countdown timer longer than one hour; the GA-2100 supports up to 24 hours.
  • You want the marginally thinner, lighter option: Casio lists it at 11.8 mm and 51 g, compared with 11.9 mm and 52 g for the GA-B2100.

Both are specified as shock resistant and water resistant to 200 m. Follow the instructions and care guidance in the manual for the specific watch; a shared rating does not remove the need for proper care.

Check local price and availability

Prices and stock vary by region and date. When retrieved, Casio’s US page displayed $110 for the GA-2100-1A and $165 for the GA-B2100-1A, and showed “NOTIFY ME.” Those are dated observations from that regional page, not a current or generally applicable price. Check local listings for the exact model and colorway before deciding whether the Bluetooth and solar features are worth any price difference.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
