Bluesky is expanding its standalone Attie AI experiment beyond custom feeds: as of October 15, 2026, Attie can help people create small websites, quizzes, games, polls and other interactive social pages. Each creation is tied to its maker’s AT Protocol identity and is intended to circulate through Bluesky’s wider “Atmosphere” of decentralized social apps.

What changed in Attie

Bluesky announced the expansion at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. Attie began as a separate AI assistant that generated custom social feeds from natural-language instructions. The March 2026 launch description said it used Anthropic’s Claude, allowed sign-in with an Atmosphere identity and was expected to grow toward user-built social applications and tools.

The October update broadens that brief. A person can describe an idea and use Attie to make a lightweight web experience rather than only change how posts are filtered. The announced examples include:

  • Small websites and informational pages
  • Quizzes and polls
  • Simple games
  • Other interactive pages designed for a group or online community

Bluesky has not published a complete capability list, so the announcement should be read as an expansion into this category of projects, not as a promise that Attie can build any production website or commercial game.

How the experience is supposed to work

Describe the idea in ordinary language

Attie is designed around natural-language creation, often called “vibe coding.” Instead of starting with a programming language, a user explains the page or activity they want and iterates on the result with the assistant. The goal is to reduce the technical barrier for people who have an idea but do not write code.

Make it for a group, not only yourself

Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider described the new direction as “social vibe coding” or “vibe coding for your community.” He contrasted it with the largely solo experience of current AI coding tools. The intended unit is therefore a shared activity—such as a quiz for followers, a poll for a community or a small game for an event—rather than only a private prototype.

Attach the result to an AT Protocol identity

Creations are connected to the creator’s identity on AT Protocol (ATProto), the open protocol used by Bluesky and other Atmosphere applications. That identity link is different from publishing a page solely inside one company’s account system. It is meant to let the project participate in an ecosystem where independent apps can build on the same protocol.

Is Attie part of the main Bluesky app?

No. Attie is a standalone Bluesky experiment, not a mode built into the primary Bluesky application. The products are related through the company and the shared protocol strategy, but users should not assume that every Attie project is created from a button inside the normal Bluesky posting interface.

Bluesky’s distribution can still matter. COO Rose Wang said creation needs distribution and argued that Attie can benefit from “the Bluesky distribution.” In practical terms, a project may be discoverable through Bluesky-linked identity and the broader Atmosphere, while the exact presentation and discovery mechanisms depend on the apps that support it.

How Attie fits Bluesky’s open-protocol strategy

Bluesky’s January strategy framing defines the Atmosphere as an ecosystem of applications built on the same open protocol as Bluesky. Developers can create tools or entire apps that connect to live moments without requiring every feature to be owned by one service. Attie extends that idea from professional developers to ordinary users who can describe a social tool and have AI help assemble it.

Jay Graber summarized the product philosophy as: “We think AI should serve people, not platforms.” The intended benefit is broader participation in shaping feeds and software while retaining protocol-level distribution instead of locking every creation to a closed platform.

Attie compared with conventional AI coding and social platforms

Dimension Attie’s announced direction Typical contrast
Audience Groups and communities as well as individual creators Many AI coding tools focus on a solo builder
Distribution Potential reach through Bluesky and the wider Atmosphere A standalone project may need to build its own audience
Identity Linked to an AT Protocol identity Closed platforms generally use a platform-specific account
Technical barrier Natural-language creation is the central interaction Traditional development requires writing and maintaining code
Protocol model Designed for an open, interoperable ecosystem Many social products keep content and integrations inside one service

This is a comparison of the announced model, not a performance benchmark. Bluesky has not published limits for project size, hosting, code export or compatibility across Atmosphere apps.

What is still unknown

Who can use it and when

The earlier Attie report described a private beta. The October announcement did not establish that access is now universal, so availability may depend on an invitation, staged rollout or other account requirement.

Pricing

Bluesky had not decided in the earlier report whether Attie would require a fee. No final price or paid tier was announced with the October expansion.

Moderation and responsibility

The announcement does not set out final moderation rules, abuse controls, ownership terms or a process for handling harmful interactive content. Those policies will be important if Attie-generated pages can spread across a social ecosystem.

Private-data support

Support for private AT Protocol data was in alpha testing, with a planned rollout by the end of 2026. The report did not specify final permissions, safeguards or a firm release date. Until those details are published, users should avoid assuming that Attie can safely handle sensitive private information.

What the numbers say about the opportunity

Bluesky said its service gained 2 million new users in four months and that nearly 200 new Atmosphere apps appeared over the same period in 2026. TechCrunch reported 47 million registered Bluesky users in October. Registered accounts are not the same as active users, and the same report noted declining engagement, so those figures indicate ecosystem scale rather than a guarantee that an Attie project will reach a large audience.

What users should expect

Attie’s expansion makes Bluesky’s AI experiment more ambitious: it is moving from personalized feeds toward user-created social software. For a non-programmer, the attraction is the ability to turn an idea into a shareable quiz, poll, game or page through conversation. For communities, the key promise is distribution tied to an open identity system rather than an isolated prototype.

That promise remains conditional. Access, pricing, moderation, private-data controls and the practical reach of projects are not settled. Attie is best understood as an evolving experiment in community-oriented creation on AT Protocol, not yet as a fully specified website-building platform.
