Bluehost AI Assistant Domain Purchase: Register, Review, and Point It

You can register a new domain through Bluehost’s AI assistant without buying hosting, then optionally point it to an eligible Bluehost Self-Managed VPS. You’ll need to configure Bluehost MCP, sign in to your Bluehost account, and have a payment method saved. The assistant does not charge you until you review the order and explicitly confirm it.

Check whether the assistant flow fits your situation

Bluehost’s AI assistant flow is for registering a new domain through Bluehost MCP. It is not the process for connecting a domain you already own or transferring a registration from another registrar.

Situation What to do
You want to register a new domain Use the assistant flow, if your account and preferred extension are eligible.
You already own the domain Use Bluehost’s separate portal and DNS instructions to connect it; do not try to register it again through the assistant.
You want the new domain to lead to a Bluehost VPS Register first, then choose whether to point it to an eligible Self-Managed VPS in the assistant flow or later.

Bluehost says the MCP registration flow is limited to US-based accounts and supports .com, .org, .info, .net, and .biz. It does not cover other extensions, premium or aftermarket names, Unicode names, multi-year terms, existing domains, or transfers. The flow also does not let you edit registrant contact information or change the payment method during purchase. See Bluehost’s AI assistant domain-registration guide for current scope and eligibility.

Set up before asking to register

Configure Bluehost’s MCP server in a supported AI assistant, sign in to your Bluehost account, and save a payment method. Account creation and adding or changing payment methods happen through a browser. A hosting plan is not required just to register a domain, as Bluehost explains in its standalone domain-purchase guidance.

Register the domain and confirm the order

  1. Give the assistant the exact name. You can ask for available suggestions or request a check for a specific name. Review both the spelling and extension: the assistant registers the name you specify.
  2. Choose from the available results. The assistant presents candidate names with availability and annual pricing. Ask for more suggestions or check another name if needed.
  3. Decide whether to add WHOIS privacy. Privacy is an optional paid add-on. If an extension does not support it, contact information may be visible in the public record.
  4. Review the full order summary. Before payment, check the selected domain, total due today including tax, one-year registration term, privacy selection, auto-renew setting, renewal price and date, and the last four digits of the card on file. The billing address on the account supplies registrant contact details.
  5. Confirm only if the details are right. The card is charged after your explicit confirmation. The registration is nonrefundable, according to Bluehost, so verify the name carefully before approving.

The assistant flow uses a one-year term and has auto-renew enabled at purchase; you can turn auto-renew off later in your Bluehost account. Registration, renewal, and privacy prices can vary. Use the prices shown in your live order summary rather than relying on an example price: Bluehost’s guide notes that renewal depends on the domain and extension.

Finish registration and verify your email

After confirmation, the registration may continue even if the assistant stops waiting after two minutes. Bluehost says it will email you when the registration completes. Check that message and verify the registrant email address: Bluehost says new registrations must be verified within 15 days or the domain may be suspended. Its email-verification instructions explain the process.

Optionally point the new domain to a Bluehost VPS

Registration does not automatically point the domain anywhere. In this assistant flow, pointing is available when your account has an eligible Self-Managed VPS. The assistant identifies the VPS and its IP address; if there is more than one, it asks which one you mean. Review the destination before approving the DNS change.

  1. When asked whether to point the domain, choose the intended Self-Managed VPS or decline and leave the domain unpointed for now.
  2. Check that the assistant has named the correct VPS and IP address.
  3. Explicitly confirm before the assistant changes DNS.

After confirmation, the assistant writes an A record for the domain and a www CNAME while the domain remains on Bluehost nameservers, ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. It reports that propagation is in progress; that is not confirmation that a site is already live. Bluehost describes this behavior in its assistant workflow guide.

Connect an existing domain instead

If the domain is already registered, use the destination service’s instructions rather than the new-domain purchase flow. Bluehost’s general DNS guidance distinguishes two approaches: change nameservers to move DNS management to Bluehost, or update individual records at the current registrar while leaving DNS there. For a Bluehost-hosted site, the necessary records can include an A record pointing to the hosting IP and a www CNAME. Follow the destination provider’s specific values and choose based on where you want DNS managed; see Bluehost’s DNS management guide.

For an existing domain used with Bluehost AI Store, the portal’s Connect Domain flow has you select the domain, follow instructions to point it from the current registrar, and then set it as the store’s Site URL after propagation. Bluehost’s AI Store connection guide says DNS changes can take 24 to 48 hours to fully propagate. That timeframe is specific to its guide and is not a guarantee for every DNS change.
