Blue Prince is a daily mansion-building puzzle in which every run starts with a limited movement budget and a new set of room choices. You expand from the permanent entrance by drafting one of three floorplans at each available door. Keys open locked doors and trunks, gems pay for many room plans, and both are reset at the start of the next day. The reliable beginner strategy is to build a broad, connected route, collect resources before costs rise in deeper ranks, and record discoveries for future runs.
The basic loop: draft, explore, and prepare for tomorrow
Each day begins in a permanent entrance area. From there, you create the mansion one room at a time. At an available door, interact with the doorway to draw three floorplans. Choose one that can connect to the existing layout, then enter the new room and use its doors to continue drafting.

The two plans you do not choose return to the available pool. That means every decision changes both the shape of the house and the plans you may see later. A room that looks inconvenient now can be useful if it opens a new direction, reveals a resource, or teaches you what that room type does.
Most rooms drafted during a day are temporary. They disappear when the day ends, while permanent rooms and lasting discoveries remain. The objective of an individual run is therefore not simply to travel as far north as possible. You are trying to turn limited steps, keys, gems, food, and information into progress that makes later runs more productive.

How a room draft works
- Find an existing door that can accept a new room.
- Open the drafting interface and inspect the three floorplans.
- Check the plan’s doors, position, rank, resource cost, and likely route value.
- Choose a plan that fits the open grid and your immediate objective.
- Enter the room, search it, and use its doors to extend the layout.
The first tile drawn in a draft has its gem cost waived. Later choices may require gems, so the free first option is especially important when your supply is low. Do not spend gems automatically just because a paid plan appears; first ask whether it creates a route or discovery that justifies the cost.
Understand the mansion grid before you plan a route
The main floorplan is five columns wide and nine ranks deep. Think of columns as left-to-right positions and ranks as the mansion’s depth. Every new room occupies a place in that grid, and its doors determine which spaces can be reached next.
A straight line toward the highest rank is tempting, but it often leaves you short of the resources needed to continue. Deeper ranks introduce more locked doors, increasing the value of keys and the risk of reaching a critical doorway with no way through. A winding route through several connected rooms gives you more opportunities to find keys, gems, coins, food, tools, and clues before those costs become urgent.

- Multiple usable doors: A room that leaves several directions open gives later drafts more flexibility than a room with one forced exit.
- Resource access: A short detour that exposes a key, gem, food item, or coin can extend the run more than a direct step toward the top.
- Manageable locks: Keep enough keys for the locked entrances and trunks you are likely to encounter in deeper ranks.
- Information gain: A new room type, clue, code, or puzzle interaction can be valuable even when it does not improve today’s route.
- Future setup: A permanent room, stored item, or newly understood effect can matter more than a few extra rooms before the day ends.
Use dead ends deliberately
A dead end is not automatically a failed draft. It can contain a clue, a hidden resource, or a room type you have not seen. Exploring unfamiliar rooms also improves your understanding of the drafting pool, which helps you recognize stronger choices on later days.
If a dead end consumes too many steps without offering resources or information, leave it alone. If it reveals something new, treat the detour as an investment rather than trying to force it into a forward route.
Keys, gems, coins, and steps: what each resource does
| Resource | Primary use | Starting amount | Reset behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steps | Movement and room inspection | 50 | The daily movement budget changes during a run through food and room effects. |
| Gems | Paying gem-priced room plans | 0 | Reset at the start of each day. |
| Keys | Unlocking doors and locked trunks | 0 | Reset at the start of each day. |
| Coins | Shop purchases and other spending | 0 | Used during the run for purchases. |
Steps are your movement budget
You begin with 50 steps. Walking, checking rooms, and backtracking all consume that budget, so the number is also a limit on how much of the day’s mansion you can inspect. Food and room effects can change the total, but they do not make unnecessary travel free.
Before leaving a room, decide whether its remaining doors, furniture, shelves, drawers, and corners are worth the steps required to inspect them. When the route doubles back through several rooms, the return trip can cost more than the original discovery. Plan loops that collect several benefits instead of repeatedly crossing the same corridor.
Keys open more than doors
Spend a key to unlock a locked entrance to a new room or a locked trunk. Because keys reset daily, carrying one into the next day is not a strategy; the counter starts over. Use keys when the object behind the lock can improve the current run or reveal information you can retain.
Early in a run, avoid opening every lock on sight. A key saved for a deeper entrance may be the difference between reaching a new rank and stopping at a barrier. Conversely, a locked trunk that contains an immediately useful item can be a good investment when you have enough keys for the route ahead.

Gems pay for room plans
Gems are the drafting currency for plans that display a gem cost. You start with none, so the first free tile in a draft is often your practical option at the beginning of a day. Once you find gems, preserve them for choices that materially improve your route, unlock a useful room type, or provide a better chance of reaching a planned area.
Gems also reset daily. Spending them for a marginally better shape near the entrance can leave you unable to pay for a strategically important plan later in the same run.

Coins support purchases
Coins are primarily used in shops and for purchases. They do not replace keys for locks or gems for paid room plans. Pick up coins when they are on your route, but do not spend steps on a long detour solely for a small amount unless you already know the purchase it enables.
Food and room effects extend the run
Food can restore steps, and room effects can alter your available movement or other conditions. Search ordinary-looking spaces rather than assuming resources are displayed in the center of a room. Corners, furniture, shelves, and drawers can hide items.
A practical first-run plan
- Read the starting blueprint. Examine the entrance, door directions, and the rank you are about to enter. Knowing where a connection leads prevents drafting a room that cannot serve your intended route.
- Draft for expansion. Prefer a plan that keeps useful doors open. If a new room type offers meaningful information, take it even when it is not the perfect geometric fit.
- Search as you move. Collect visible keys, gems, coins, food, and tools. Inspect corners and storage areas before spending steps on a distant detour.
- Protect the 50-step budget. Avoid unnecessary backtracking. If a room has no resource, clue, or useful door, leave rather than repeatedly rechecking it.
- Save flexibility for deeper ranks. Lower ranks are the safest place to gather cheap resources. Keep enough keys for locked entrances and enough gems for paid plans once the route becomes more demanding.
- Write down discoveries. Record codes, puzzle clues, room effects, safe locations, and other durable information outside the game. There is no in-game journal.
- End the day with tomorrow in mind. A clue, permanent upgrade, stored item, or newly understood room can be a better result than forcing one more room before your steps run out.
How to choose between three room plans
When two or more plans fit, compare them in a consistent order rather than choosing by appearance alone.
| Decision axis | Question to ask | When it should win |
|---|---|---|
| Resource yield | Does the room offer keys, gems, coins, food, steps, or useful tools? | Choose it when your current shortage would otherwise stop the route. |
| Route value | How many useful doors remain after placement? | Choose a multi-door room when you need flexibility for later drafts. |
| Rank and lock exposure | Will this choice push you toward locked entrances before you can collect keys? | Prefer a route that lets you gather resources before entering expensive ranks. |
| Information value | Does it reveal a new room type, clue, code, or puzzle interaction? | Choose it when learning the room can improve future runs. |
| Persistence value | Will the result remain useful after the daily layout disappears? | Favor permanent rooms, durable clues, and knowledge when immediate progress is uncertain. |
This framework explains why the “best” room changes from run to run. A resource-rich plan may be correct when you are short on keys, while a less rewarding room with several exits may be better when you are trying to reach an unexplored section. Information can outrank both if it solves a puzzle you can use every day.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What resets each day, and what carries forward
The daily reset removes the temporary mansion layout and refreshes the run’s consumable economy. Keys and gems return to zero at the start of the next day. The day’s steps are a movement allowance rather than a banked resource; food and room effects can modify the total while you play.
Knowledge is the lasting progression. Codes, room discoveries, puzzle clues, and notes remain useful after a reset. Since the game has no built-in journal, keep a physical or digital notebook with the exact wording of clues, where you found them, and what they appeared to affect.
Do not measure a run only by how far its temporary layout reached. If you learned a code, identified a room effect, found a permanent improvement, or established a reliable resource location, the run produced progress that the next day’s draft can exploit.

Common beginner mistakes and how to correct them
Rushing straight north
Symptom: You reach deeper ranks quickly, then stop at a lock or cannot afford the room plan needed to continue.
Correction: Use a winding route through lower ranks first. Collect keys and gems, and leave several doors available so a poor draw does not end the route.
Spending every key immediately
Symptom: An important entrance or trunk appears later, but the counter is empty.
Correction: Treat each key as a choice between immediate access and future flexibility. Open a lock when it provides a clear resource, clue, or route advantage.
Paying for a plan without checking alternatives
Symptom: Gems disappear near the entrance and a better-fitting plan becomes unaffordable later.

Ignoring room interiors
Symptom: You run out of steps or keys despite passing rooms that could have supplied them.
Correction: Search corners, furniture, shelves, drawers, and other less obvious locations. Build inspection into your route instead of racing through every room.
Discarding unfamiliar rooms
Symptom: You repeatedly choose familiar layouts and never learn what other room types do.

Correction: Draft a room you have never seen when the cost is manageable, even if it is a temporary dead end. Discovery improves later decisions and may reveal lasting information.

Symptom: A code or clue feels familiar, but you cannot reproduce it accurately on a later day.
Correction: Record discoveries immediately. The lack of an in-game journal makes external notes part of an effective long-term strategy.
Planning for different run conditions
When you have no gems
Use the free first tile in each draft and prioritize rooms that expose gems without requiring a paid plan. Keep the route broad so a single poor draw does not force an expensive correction. Once you find gems, reserve them for a plan that opens a valuable direction rather than spending them on a cosmetic improvement to the starting area.

When keys are scarce
Favor rooms and branches where you can search for resources before committing to locked entrances. If two plans offer similar routes, choose the one that leaves more unblocked doors and fewer immediate locks. A key spent on a trunk is worthwhile when its contents improve the rest of the run; otherwise, preserve it for progression.
When steps are running low
Stop revisiting cleared rooms and shorten the route. Take nearby resources, food, and clues rather than chasing a distant branch. A run that ends with a recorded discovery can still advance your overall understanding, while a final sprint that consumes the remaining steps without information often produces little.
When a room does not fit your original plan
Re-evaluate instead of forcing the layout. The mansion’s value comes from connected opportunities, not from maintaining a perfect line. Use the room as a side branch if it has resources or information, then resume expansion from another available door.
A repeatable decision checklist
- Can this plan connect to the current open grid?
- How many useful doors will remain after placing it?
- What does it cost in gems, keys, steps, or likely backtracking?
- Does it expose resources before the next locked entrance?
- Will it reveal a new room type, clue, code, or permanent benefit?
- If the day ends immediately afterward, will the information or upgrade still help tomorrow?
Apply the checklist at every meaningful fork, not just at the entrance. The strongest runs are built from many modest decisions: one extra door preserved, one key saved for a deeper lock, one hidden food item found, and one clue written down accurately.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line for your first several days
Build outward rather than tunneling straight upward. Draft rooms that preserve options, search thoroughly enough to sustain your steps, and collect cheap resources before deeper ranks introduce more locks. Keys are for doors and trunks; gems are for paid room plans; both reset daily. The mansion you draft may vanish overnight, but the codes, clues, room knowledge, and permanent improvements you capture are the foundation of every stronger run.
