In The Blood of Dawnwalker, Infamy tracks how much Coen has disrupted Brencis’s rule. As Infamy rises, Brencis issues Edicts that can make travel, shopping, and moving through settlements more difficult. The Court panel shows your current Infamy and activities that can raise it. PowerPyx reports nine Edicts, listed below; the specific effects and timing are from that secondary guide, while developer comments establish the system’s broader purpose.
What Infamy means
The game’s Court-panel explanation, transcribed by the unofficial DawnwalkerDB database, says that disrupting the order established by Brencis and his boyars increases Infamy. Each new Infamy Level prompts Brencis to proclaim an Edict. DawnwalkerDB’s Court & Infamy explanation is a fan transcription, rather than an official publisher page.

Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz described Infamy as a measure of Coen’s actions and how negatively he is regarded by the vampiric court and the people of Vale Sangora. He named rampages, killing, being caught stealing, quest choices, and directly targeting Brencis or his organization as possible triggers. As he put it in a Game Informer interview published May 15, 2026: “This can be done in multiple ways: If you go on rampages, if you just kill people, if you steal things and people catch you, you, of course, get this bad rep.”

All nine reported Edicts
PowerPyx’s September 2, 2026 guide reports that Edicts are announced after an in-game day passes, in a cutscene in Svartrau. The guide lists these effects in order:
#1 Best Overall
- Day 1 Edition includes the Base Game Disc, Steelbook, and World Map.
- Make The Story Your Own - Experience and shape the plot the way you want. Embark on the quest to save your family, or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Rush in head first or risk taking time to prepare. Go alone or search for friends and forge unlikely alliances.
- Day And Night - Experience two different gameplay loops, offering distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and varying ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
- Every Action Matters - Every action - and inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family’s days are numbered, and every time you take on a quest, time moves forward, compelling you closer to the end. Choose carefully whom to help and whom to leave behind. You will not have time for everyone. The world waits for no one. And neither does the villain.
| Infamy Edict | Reported effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | Additional patrols appear in settlements. |
| 2 | Military checkpoints appear throughout the valley. |
| 3 | Prices increase throughout the valley. |
| 4 | Additional soldiers patrol roads, and patrol commanders recognize Coen. |
| 5 | Fewer people are outdoors between dusk and dawn. |
| 6 | More military checkpoints appear throughout the valley, and prices rise further. |
| 7 | Headhunters appear in the valley, and all soldiers recognize Coen. |
| 8 | All soldiers become stronger. |
| 9 | The gates of Svartrau City are shut. PowerPyx says the walls can only be climbed at night. |
The exact nine-effect list and timing are attributed to PowerPyx; the sources here do not provide an official exhaustive Edict list. Treat the sequence as a guide-reported account, not a guarantee for every game build.
What raises Infamy
According to PowerPyx, defeating each of the three vassals raises Infamy by one full level. Court Activities and clearing Soldier Camps contribute the remaining Infamy. DawnwalkerDB describes Court Activities as tasks assigned to individual boyars and says the Court panel identifies activities that disrupt their order.

- After Infamy rises, allow for the reported in-game day delay before expecting an Edict announcement.
Does high Infamy help or hurt Coen?
It can do both. Tomaszkiewicz said Brencis’s response may increase patrols, bring bounty hunters, and, in an extreme case, lock down a city. Those pressures can make movement and encounters more difficult. But he also said rising Infamy can signal to anti-Brencis resistance that Coen is on its side, and may make intimidation easier.
That makes Infamy a strategic tradeoff rather than a simple bad-ending meter. A lower-profile approach avoids the pressures described above; openly disrupting Brencis can draw his attention while also helping Coen demonstrate alignment with people resisting him. Neither approach is established as universally best.

Why the Edicts matter in the game’s structure
The consequences are layered onto a player-directed world with different conditions for Coen by day and night. In a PlayStation Blog article published August 20, 2025, Tomaszkiewicz described a 30-day-and-night narrative sandbox after the prologue: major actions advance time, while open-world roaming does not. Coen is human by day and a vampire by night, with different abilities and quest experiences. Added patrols, nighttime restrictions, and closed gates therefore intersect with the player’s movement choices.
The time limit and Infamy are distinct systems. A later PlayStation Blog interview published April 28, 2026 discusses consequences when the time limit expires while the game continues; that is not the same mechanic as Brencis issuing an Edict in response to Infamy.
