Choose the control that matches what you want to stop.
Choose the right Roku control

Require a PIN before someone adds apps
Use this option to restrict new app additions made through your Roku account. Roku’s account PIN is four digits and can also be used for purchases and subscriptions, depending on the settings you choose. Menu wording may change, so use the account’s PIN or parental-control settings if labels differ.

- Sign in to your account at my.roku.com.
- Open the PIN or parental-control settings for the account.
- Under the options for subscriptions, purchases, and app additions, choose the setting that requires a PIN to add apps. Enable any additional purchase protections you want.
- Save the settings.
This is an account-level control, not a universal lock on apps already installed. Roku also says account PIN and parental controls do not take effect in Guest Mode. [Roku Support]

- Press Home on the Roku remote.
- Highlight the app on the Home screen.
- Press the Star button to open its options.
- Select Remove app, then confirm.
You can also remove apps through the Roku mobile app. Roku says adding or removing an app affects Roku devices linked to the same account. If Remove app is unavailable, check whether the app has an active subscription or is in a current billing cycle. Manage the subscription or turn off auto-renew as appropriate; removing the app does not itself cancel the subscription. [Roku Support] [Roku Support]

Set rating limits for Live TV programs
On a Roku TV, open Home > Settings > Parental controls. The first setup asks you to create a four-digit TV parental-control PIN. If you have not set up the TV tuner, scan for channels first.
Roku’s controls can restrict TV and movie content by rating, account for content descriptors, use Canadian English and French rating systems, and block unrated programs. The restrictions apply to the Live TV input, including antenna programming and streaming TV channels in the Live TV Channel Guide. When a program is blocked, its video is obscured and audio muted until the PIN is entered. These controls do not block apps from the Roku Home screen. [Roku Support]

Keep the two Roku PINs distinct
The Roku account PIN and Roku TV parental-control PIN are separate settings with different jobs. The account PIN governs account-based additions and purchases; the TV PIN governs restricted content on the antenna and Live TV side. They can happen to use the same digits, but one does not automatically serve as the other. [Roku Support]

Roku’s device-based rating controls can require a PIN for selected content ratings in The Roku Channel and Howdy. They do not cover other streaming services, their websites, or their mobile apps. Consider Kid & Teen Mode for a limited app selection
Kid & Teen Mode lets a parent approve apps for a more restricted experience, but only participating apps are available, and participation can vary. Roku cannot control what happens inside third-party apps. Roku Pay purchases and subscriptions are restricted in the mode, but a purchase made directly through an app provider may still be possible. Treat this as a curated set of participating apps, not as a universal app blocker. [Roku Support]
