BlazBlue: Centralfiction on PS5 is the PS4 version played through backward compatibility, not a separately verified PS5-native edition. The official PS4 manual maps the four face buttons to attacks: □ is A (weak), △ is B (medium), ○ is C (strong), and × is D (Drive). Learn that layout first, then choose Technical or Stylish controls, practise one character’s command list, and expand your options gradually.
A third-party compatibility reference reports 1080p output at 60 frames per second for the PS4 game on PS5. Treat that as a secondary-source report rather than a guarantee for every display or setup. Current PlayStation Store status, physical stock and a separate native PS5 release were not established in the available documentation.

Which version are you playing on PS5?
This guide covers the PS4 edition of BlazBlue: Centralfiction running on a PS5. The control information comes from the official PS4 software manual. A separate compatibility reference reports that the PS4 game works backward-compatible on PS5 and lists 1080p and 60 FPS; those performance details are secondary-source information, not a promise of a PS5-native build.

PS5 controller controls at a glance
The default battle layout is the same PlayStation arrangement documented for the PS4 software. Use either the D-pad or the left stick for directional movement.
| PlayStation input | In-game function | What a beginner should remember |
|---|---|---|
| D-pad or left stick | Move the character | Use whichever directional input gives you cleaner movement and motion inputs. |
| □ | Weak attack (A) | The lightest attack button in the A/B/C/D layout. |
| △ | Medium attack (B) | The middle attack button in the standard layout. |
| ○ | Strong attack (C) | The strongest of the three regular attack buttons. |
| × | Drive attack (D) | A character-specific action; check your character’s command list. |
| R1 | Taunt (AP) | Do not confuse AP with an attack button when learning the layout. |
| R2 | SP button | Stylish controls use this assigned SP input for assisted actions. |
| L1 | FN1 | A function-button assignment that can be changed in Button Settings. |
| L2 | FN2 | A second function-button assignment that can be changed in Button Settings. |
| OPTIONS | Pause menu | Use it to reach the pause and configuration screens. |
The A, B, C and D labels are the game’s terminology, while the symbols are what you press on a PS5 pad. The most important translation is □/A, △/B, ○/C and ×/D. Drive is not a universal “heavy attack”: its effect depends on the character you selected.
Technical or Stylish: which control type should a beginner choose?
Technical controls
Technical is the standard command-input style. You perform the motions and button combinations listed for the character rather than receiving the game’s assisted shortcuts. Choose it when you want to learn the conventional input system or when you are ready to practise commands directly.

Stylish is the assisted option described for players who are still learning. The documented features are:
- Special attacks and Distortion Drives can be performed with a direction plus the SP button.
- Tapping the same button can produce a combo.
- Drive moves can be activated with SP.
- The mode provides automatic barrier guard.
Stylish can remove execution barriers while you learn spacing, movement and what your character’s attacks do. It is not universally better than Technical: it changes how you perform actions, so move to Technical when standard commands become your goal. You can also stay with Stylish if the assisted layout lets you understand matches instead of spending every session on input execution.

Set up your first session in the right order
- Confirm the edition. Start the PS4 version on PS5 and make sure your controller is recognised before entering a match.
- Open the control options. Find Button Settings and review the current assignments. You can change the mapping if the default arrangement feels awkward.
- Pick one control type. Select Technical for standard commands or Stylish for the assisted inputs described above. Avoid switching repeatedly during the same short exercise; give yourself time to build consistent muscle memory.
- Choose one character. Do not begin by trying to memorise the entire roster. Select a character whose movement and visual range you can follow comfortably.
- Open the character’s command list. Identify the character’s D/Drive action first, then note the commands for the attacks you intend to practise.
- Use Tutorial Mode or training features. The official game materials describe Tutorial Mode as intended for people new to 2D fighting games or the BlazBlue series. Follow the explanations, then reproduce the commands with your chosen character.
- Test the layout in a low-pressure exercise. Walk, crouch and jump with the D-pad or left stick, press each attack button separately, and confirm that × produces the selected character’s Drive action.
This sequence is a practical way to organise a first session from the documented controls and beginner-focused tutorial. It is a learning plan, not a claim that there is one mandatory training routine.
How to practise movement and attacks
Start with directional consistency
Try the D-pad and the left stick separately. Use the one that lets you return to neutral reliably and makes directional motions feel deliberate. A controller that technically works is not automatically comfortable for every player, so judge the input by whether your character moves when you intend and stays still when you release it.

Say the layout aloud while you learn
Call the buttons by both names: “□, A,” “△, B,” “○, C,” and “×, D.” The game’s command list may use letters, while your hand sees symbols. Connecting those two vocabularies prevents the common beginner error of pressing the right symbol for the wrong letter.
Separate the four functions
Press A, B, C and D one at a time before attempting combinations. Observe the range and animation of each attack, then repeat while moving. Since D is character-specific, spend extra time identifying what that button does for the character you chose rather than assuming it behaves like a generic heavy attack.
Add commands only after the buttons feel familiar
When the basic layout is automatic, select a small group of commands from the character’s list. On Technical, practise the listed motions slowly and consistently. On Stylish, test the direction-plus-SP shortcuts and the assisted combo input so you know exactly what the mode is doing for you. In either mode, the goal of the first exercise is repeatability, not speed.

Why Drive deserves special attention
Drive is the × button in the default PlayStation mapping, but its actual move is defined by the character. That makes it the control most likely to confuse a new player who expects every character to share the same D action.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open the selected character’s command list.
- Locate the entry marked D or Drive.
- Read the move’s stated input and description.
- Perform it in training, first from a neutral position and then after movement.
- Repeat the same check whenever you switch characters.
Stylish can activate Drive moves with SP, according to the official feature description. That shortcut does not remove the need to learn what the Drive action does; it only changes how you trigger it.
When to remap the buttons
The manual states that mappings can be changed in Button Settings. Remapping is useful when a finger has trouble reaching a default button, when you prefer a different arrangement for simultaneous presses, or when the SP and function buttons feel more accessible elsewhere.
Change one or two assignments at a time, then retest the A/B/C/D layout. Keep a written note or screenshot of the new arrangement while you are learning. If a command list appears to disagree with what you press, first check whether you changed the mapping and whether you are reading a Technical command while playing Stylish.
A gradual learning plan for your first several sessions
Session 1: recognition
- Verify movement with the D-pad and left stick.
- Press □, △, ○ and × individually.
- Match each symbol to A, B, C and D.
- Find the selected character’s Drive description.
Session 2: a small command set
- Choose only a few commands from the character list.
- On Technical, repeat each listed motion without rushing.
- On Stylish, test direction-plus-SP special attacks and the assisted combo input.
- Use Tutorial Mode or training features to check whether the command produced the intended move.
Session 3: movement plus actions
- Walk, stop, then perform an attack.
- Repeat the sequence from the opposite direction.
- Practise the character’s Drive after movement.
- Use the same control type and mapping long enough to notice which mistakes are execution errors and which are unfamiliar commands.
After the basics
Add more commands only when you can recognise the first group without looking at the controller. Expand the list in small sets and return to the character command list whenever you change characters. This prevents the roster’s full set of options from becoming one undifferentiated memorisation task.

Common PS5 questions and fixes
“The symbols in a guide do not match the letters in the command list.”
Use the documented translation: □ is A, △ is B, ○ is C and × is D. Guides may use letters because the game does; your controller uses symbols.
“My character’s D move is not what I expected.”
That is usually a character-selection issue rather than a universal control error. Open that character’s command list and learn the specific Drive action assigned to D.
“Motion inputs are preventing me from learning anything else.”
Try Stylish as an on-ramp. Its documented direction-plus-SP specials, assisted combo input, SP-based Drive activation and automatic barrier guard reduce some execution demands. Return to Technical when you want to practise standard commands.
“The default buttons feel uncomfortable.”
Open Button Settings and remap the controls. Recheck the A/B/C/D labels after changing anything, because a custom layout can make an old memorisation shortcut unreliable.

“Do I need a fight stick or a special controller?”
No requirement for a particular accessory is established by the official manual. A PS4-compatible controller or fight stick is an optional category of hardware, not a prerequisite stated for playing the game.

“Is there definitely a PS5-native edition?”
The available documentation covers the PS4 software and a third-party report of backward compatibility. It does not verify a separate PS5-native edition, current digital-store status or current physical inventory.
Performance and availability caveats
The secondary compatibility report lists 1080p and 60 FPS for the PS4 game on PS5. Keep the source qualification attached to those figures: they are reported compatibility details, not an independently verified result for every television, capture setup or system configuration.
Availability can vary by region and format. Search for “BlazBlue: Centralfiction PS4,” then confirm whether the listing is digital or physical, whether it is playable in your region and whether the seller identifies the PS4 edition. Do not assume that a listing’s presence proves a native PS5 build.
First-session checklist
- □ A, △ B, ○ C, × D memorised.
- D-pad and left-stick movement tested; use the input that feels more reliable.
- One character selected rather than the whole roster.
- That character’s Drive action checked in the command list.
- Technical or Stylish chosen deliberately.
- Tutorial Mode or training features opened.
- Button Settings reviewed and remapped only if needed.
- R1, R2, L1, L2 and OPTIONS identified so they are not mistaken for attack buttons.
Once those checks are complete, the controller is no longer the main obstacle. You have a stable vocabulary for the game’s attacks, a known Drive action for your character and a control type that matches your current comfort with command inputs.
