Learning when to use each route is the key to moving without repeatedly crossing the same exposed ground.
How Colossus is laid out
The official Colossus map guide describes three primary lanes running from Atrium toward Wreckage. The two outer lanes offer long sightlines. The middle route is organized around the large Maintenance and Loading Bay areas, with Overlook between them. Security runs below the central route and connects Lifeboat directly to Atrium.

That layout creates two broad engagement environments: the long-range outer routes and the more connected central spaces. The map guide gives no dimensions, route timings, or quantitative sightline measurements, so treat these as tactical distinctions rather than measured distances.

Where are the main power positions?
Overlook: central visibility
Overlook is the map’s most obvious information-gathering position. From here, the official guide says you can watch Maintenance, Loading Bay, and Atrium. Its low walls can be used to mount a weapon, giving you a way to hold a view while taking cover. Because the position looks into several areas, avoid assuming that seeing one approach means the others are clear.

Balconies: alternate angles above the lanes
Wall Jumps provide access to balconies in Loading Bay and Maintenance. The guide describes these jumps as faster than taking the stairs at those locations. Atrium also has a balcony, reachable with a Wall Jump or by using a ramp. These routes can help you reach an elevated angle without following the ground-level approach, though the guide does not quantify the time saved or guarantee safety during the climb.
Which route should you take?
Use an outer lane when you can manage the long sightline
The two flanks are the map’s long-range routes. Move between available cover rather than treating a lane as a clear run, and be ready for opponents watching from the opposite side. The official guide suggests barrel attachments that extend damage range, including for weapons more suited to close fights; that is general map advice, not a tested build or a claim about the current strongest attachment.

Use the center when information is worth the exposure
Moving through the middle puts you near Overlook and the large Maintenance and Loading Bay spaces. Overlook can help you check several approaches, but it also means your route intersects an area with views into multiple parts of the map. Use its low walls to gather information before committing farther through the center.
Take Security to pivot between sides
Security is a useful alternative when opponents are contesting the middle. It connects Lifeboat with Atrium below the central lane, allowing you to change sides without making Overlook your required route. Use it as a rotation option, not as proof that the destination is uncontested.

How to think about Atrium and Scorestreaks
Atrium’s large overhead and side windows leave openings for Scorestreaks, according to the official map guide. The guide also notes that players can respond with a Launcher. If you are holding or crossing Atrium, account for the overhead exposure as well as threats at ground level; a Launcher is the guide’s suggested response to enemy Scorestreaks, not a universal requirement.
Modes and launch context
Call of Duty’s September 22, 2025 multiplayer deep dive lists Colossus among 16 core 6v6 launch maps. It names launch modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search & Destroy, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, Gunfight, and Control. The official map page displays Domination and Hardpoint zone layers. These sources establish launch context and map layers, not which modes or playlists currently include Colossus; check the in-game playlist for current availability.

Reading the map’s cover and opposing angles
The lane structure reflects a broader design principle described by Treyarch Design Director Matt Scronce in an October 27, 2025 Xbox Wire interview: “Every lane needs a purpose.” He explained that a power position such as a building should usually have an opposing position, and that cover should give players on both sides a way to engage rather than leaving one side exposed. On Colossus, apply that idea by checking what opposing angle can see your cover before settling into a lane or balcony.
