The same-day coverage described declines across several altcoins. These are dated market snapshots, not live prices or a complete account of every move between $81,000 and $84,000.
What happened to Bitcoin and altcoins on October 13?
The headline’s $81,000–$84,000 range captures the reported volatility, but the available October 13 coverage supports only specific points within that range. Investing.com reported an intraday Bitcoin low near $81,054.70, while another report also placed Bitcoin below $82,000. Neither figure should be treated as a current quote or as a synchronized exchange-wide price series.

Investing.com’s October 13 snapshot also described declines in Cardano, Solana, BNB, Dogecoin and $TRUMP. The reports establish that Bitcoin and those altcoins were falling in the period covered; they do not provide a same-time percentage comparison for each asset. A dollar loss alone is not enough to determine which coin performed worse, since token prices differ greatly.
Why were altcoins falling alongside Bitcoin?
The October 13 reports show the simultaneous weakness but do not establish a specific cause for that day’s moves. It would be inaccurate to use explanations reported for an earlier Bitcoin decline as if they had been confirmed for October 13.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
For comparison, CoinDesk reported on October 7, 2026, that Bitcoin fell below $84,000 as oil prices, Treasury yields and the U.S. dollar strengthened. That was a separate market episode. CoinDesk also reported that Ether, XRP and SOL fell during that earlier move. These details provide context about an earlier sell-off, not proof of what drove the October 13 declines.
What do liquidations mean for the market?
A liquidation is a forced closure of a leveraged position when a trader’s losses leave insufficient collateral to keep it open. Forced selling can add pressure during a fast decline, while forced closures of short positions can add buying pressure during a rally. Liquidations are one possible part of a price move, not by themselves an explanation for why it began.

In its October 7 report, CoinDesk cited CoinGlass data showing about $550 million in crypto positions liquidated over 24 hours, with most of the reported liquidations on long positions—bets that prices would rise. That figure belongs to the October 7 episode; it is not a liquidation total for October 13, and the available report attributes it to CoinGlass rather than presenting an independently verified primary release.

How to read a volatile crypto-market snapshot
- Check the timestamp. An intraday low is a point reached during a reporting window, not necessarily the latest price or the closing price.
- Compare like with like. To judge relative performance, compare percentage moves over the same time window; raw dollar changes across different tokens are not comparable.
- Separate observation from explanation. Reports of falling prices establish what happened in their stated window. They do not prove which macroeconomic factor, trading flow or liquidation triggered a move.
- Treat leverage data as episode-specific. Liquidation totals depend on the period and data source. The October 7 figure does not describe the October 13 market.
Glassnode’s Week 40 report, published around the earlier October 7 episode, described leverage as stretched among large- and mid-cap altcoins and flagged an $81,000 Bitcoin bid area in its snapshot. Those observations offer earlier context only; they do not establish current support or guarantee that buyers will defend a price level.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the reports do—and do not—establish
The October 13 coverage supports a Bitcoin intraday low near $81,054.70 and concurrent declines among several named altcoins. It does not provide a complete, synchronized price history for Bitcoin and those tokens, identify the exact live-update sequence behind the headline, or verify a specific cause for that day’s move. The most useful reading is therefore a dated snapshot of market weakness, not a stand-alone signal of what prices will do next.
