Set one or two Bitcoin alerts around decisions you have already defined, choose the direction and repetition deliberately, and enable only the notification channel you will actually check. A price alert is a message about a condition—not an automatic trade. The exact controls, limits and availability depend on your app, plan, country and current version, so verify the settings shown on your device.
What a Bitcoin price alert actually does
A Bitcoin price alert watches a selected BTC price condition and sends a notification when that condition is met. It does not buy or sell Bitcoin for you. Coinbase states this plainly: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.” Read the full product explanation in Coinbase Help’s price-alert guide.

That distinction matters because an alert is not a trading strategy, a guarantee of delivery, or a promise that you can act at the exact price shown. Prices can move while a notification is delayed, and different services may calculate BTC prices from different markets or currency pairs. Treat the message as a prompt to review information, not as an instruction to transact.

The easiest way to create notification overload is to start tapping levels without deciding why each one matters. Write the reason first—for example, “review my allocation if BTC falls below a level” or “check the market after a move of a certain percentage.” Avoid choosing a price merely because it looks round or because an alert seems available.

- Use a price level when a particular BTC value matters to your plan.
- Use a percentage move when the size of the move matters more than the dollar price.
- Use an upper threshold for a condition that matters after a rise.
- Use a lower threshold for a condition that matters after a fall.
- Use a two-way crossing only when either direction is relevant.
Start with one alert, or one upper and one lower alert when they serve clearly different purposes. There is no independently established “ideal” number of Bitcoin alerts in the cited product documentation; adding more prompts does not make the underlying price more predictable.
Crossing, above and below: choose the right direction
Alert terminology differs, but the logic is consistent. A generic “crossing” condition can react when price moves through a level in either direction. “Crossing up” and “crossing down” separate the rise from the fall. “Greater than” and “less than,” or “above” and “below,” describe one-sided conditions.
TradingView documents crossing, crossing up, crossing down, greater-than and less-than operators in its price-alert instructions. Coinbase’s consumer flow asks you to choose whether Bitcoin is above or below a target. If your purpose is to review a potential decline, an all-direction crossing can create a notification when price recovers through the same level, which may be unwanted repetition.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a price-based alert in TradingView, the service says to set the primary condition to “Price.” Selecting another condition can turn the alert into something other than a direct BTC price notification. Its broader alert-configuration guide explains the available controls.
A practical setup sequence
- Define the review trigger. Write a neutral action such as “review the market” rather than an automatic buy or sell instruction.
- Select the exact Bitcoin instrument. Choose BTC and the currency or trading pair that matches the market you intend to monitor. An exchange pair can differ from a chart or another exchange’s quoted price.
- Set the operator and threshold. Pick above, below, crossing up, crossing down or a two-way crossing. Enter a custom price or a percentage option if the service offers one.
- Choose frequency. Select once for a single prompt, or recurring/repeated behavior only when you genuinely want future crossings of the same condition.
- Configure delivery. Enable one preferred channel—such as push, in-app, email, pop-up, sound or webhook—and allow that channel in your phone, browser or operating-system settings.
- Name and review the alert. If labels are available, describe the purpose and direction, for example “BTC review—below target.” Confirm the pair, threshold, frequency, expiry and channel before saving.
- Remove stale alerts. Delete a threshold when the decision it served is no longer relevant. Review the alert list periodically instead of letting old levels accumulate.
These controls change how the notification behaves; they do not control market movements or guarantee that the message arrives before the price changes.

How to set Bitcoin alerts in common services
CoinGecko
CoinGecko’s support guide, “How do I set price alerts on CoinGecko?”, describes website alerts using either a custom number or a preset percentage. Its mobile instructions describe custom prices and once or recurring delivery, and the guide says an account is required for manual alerts. The exact labels can change, so follow the current alert controls shown after selecting Bitcoin.
CoinGecko also has a separate Auto Price Alerts feature. Its Auto Price Alerts support page explains that an app user can select a coin and receive automatic notifications when device and app alerts are enabled. The feature is distinct from manually created alerts, expires after 45 days according to that page (last updated October 2, 2026), and can be turned off globally or for an individual coin. If you want a deliberately small alert set, check this opt-out before assuming every notification was created manually.
TradingView
TradingView offers the most detailed directional and threshold vocabulary in the cited services. Create an alert on the BTC instrument, set the primary condition to “Price,” choose the operator, enter the level and select a trigger frequency. The configuration screen also provides an expiration setting and several delivery actions, including app notification, pop-up, email, webhook and sound, as described in the alert-configuration documentation.
Alert capacity depends on your current TradingView plan, so there is no universal quota to apply to every account. Open-ended alerts are available in many contexts, but the documentation says they are unavailable for watchlist alerts. Check the plan and instrument-specific options displayed in your account before relying on an alert that you expect to remain active indefinitely.
Coinbase
In the Coinbase mobile flow, add Bitcoin to your watchlist, open the bell or Add Alert control, choose whether the asset is above or below a target, and select notification preferences. Coinbase lists push, in-app and email delivery. Its official instructions say watchlisting is required for price alerts and reiterate that the alerts are informational rather than order instructions.

If nothing arrives, check both the channel toggles in Coinbase and the notification permission for the Coinbase app in your phone’s operating-system settings. A watchlist entry alone is not evidence that an alert exists; verify it in the alert list.
Binance
On Binance mobile, the documented route is Markets → select a trading pair → Alert. Choose the alert type, threshold and frequency, then save it. The service also documents desktop alerts. To remove a mobile alert, use the documented swipe-to-delete gesture. Follow the current steps in Binance’s price-alert support article.
The Binance support page says mobile alerts require Binance Pro, allow no more than 10 alerts for each trading pair and 50 alerts overall, and remain valid for 90 days. Those are product configuration limits, not market statistics; the page was updated January 6, 2026. Confirm that your region, app mode and current version show the same limits before designing a long-running alert system. Binance also requires phone notification permission for delivery.
Service controls at a glance
| Service | Threshold and direction controls | Frequency or expiry | Delivery and prerequisites | Important constraints |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoinGecko | Custom number or preset percentage on the website; custom price in the mobile guide | Once or recurring for manual alerts; Auto Price Alerts expire after 45 days | Website and mobile workflows; account required for manual alerts; app and device notifications for automatic alerts | Automatic alerts are separate from manual alerts and can be disabled globally or per coin |
| TradingView | Crossing, crossing up/down, greater-than and less-than; primary condition should be “Price” for a price alert | Configurable trigger frequency and expiry; open-ended option is unavailable for watchlist alerts | App, pop-up, email, webhook and sound options | Alert capacity varies by plan |
| Coinbase | Above or below a target | Follow the frequency and availability shown in the current app | Push, in-app and email; Bitcoin must be on the watchlist | Alerts notify only; they do not place orders |
| Binance | Pair-specific alert type and threshold; percentage-change choices are documented | 90-day validity; frequency selected during setup | Mobile and desktop workflows; phone notifications must be enabled; mobile setup requires Binance Pro according to the support page | Up to 10 alerts per pair and 50 total, according to the page updated January 6, 2026 |
Availability can vary by country, account, plan, app version and instrument. Compare the controls you actually need—direction, recurrence, delivery, expiry and limits—rather than assuming one service is universally best. The cited documentation describes features, not an independent ranking of reliability.
How to avoid too many crypto notifications
Keep every threshold tied to a distinct purpose
One upper and one lower level can be enough when each initiates a different review. If two alerts would lead to the same action, keep the clearer one. More thresholds create more prompts without adding certainty about what Bitcoin will do next.

Use one-time alerts for one-time decisions
Choose a once-only trigger when you need a single reminder. Choose recurring behavior when you intentionally want to monitor repeated crossings of the same condition. CoinGecko documents once and recurring options, while TradingView exposes trigger-frequency settings; neither setting predicts how often the market will cross your level.
Use percentages only for move-size questions
A percentage alert answers “has Bitcoin moved by this amount?” rather than “has Bitcoin reached this price?” Binance documents percentage-change choices, and CoinGecko’s web tool offers preset percentages. Use them when the magnitude of a move is the meaningful condition; otherwise a fixed price is easier to interpret.
Choose one channel where possible
Push plus email plus sound can turn one event into several prompts. Select the channel you reliably check, then allow it in your device or browser. This is a practical way to reduce duplicate interruptions; it is not a claim that every service deduplicates events across channels.
Audit automatic and obsolete alerts
Turn off CoinGecko Auto Price Alerts globally or for a specific coin if you did not intend to receive them. Delete old Coinbase and Binance thresholds, and review TradingView’s active-alert list and expirations. A short monthly review is enough to remove levels tied to decisions you no longer plan to make.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Troubleshooting: when an alert does not arrive
The alert exists but the phone is silent
- Confirm the alert is active and has not expired.
- Check that the selected channel is enabled inside the service.
- Open the operating-system notification settings and allow alerts for the app.
- Disable a device-wide focus, do-not-disturb or battery restriction that suppresses delivery.
- For browser notifications, verify site permission and that the browser can run notifications.
The notification arrives repeatedly
- Change recurring or repeated frequency to once if you only need one prompt.
- Replace a two-way crossing with above, below, crossing up or crossing down when direction matters.
- Check whether a separate automatic-alert feature is enabled, particularly in CoinGecko.
- Remove duplicate thresholds or duplicate delivery channels.
The price shown does not match another screen
Verify the selected BTC pair, quote currency and market source. An exchange pair and a charting service can show different prices, and a fast market can move between the condition and the notification. Recreate the alert on the instrument you actually intend to monitor rather than assuming all BTC prices are interchangeable.
Best Value
The app will not let you create another alert
Check account and plan requirements, then inspect service-specific limits. Binance documents 10 alerts per pair and 50 total with 90-day validity. TradingView says capacity depends on plan. CoinGecko’s manual workflow requires an account. Limits and labels can change, so use the current in-app message as the final authority.
A low-noise example configuration
Suppose your only objective is to review the market after an unusually large move. Create one percentage alert for the move size you have chosen, set it to once, and deliver it through push notifications only. If you also need a price-level review, add one directional alert—above or below, not a two-way crossing—then name both alerts so their purposes are obvious. When the review is complete, delete or disable the alert instead of leaving it active indefinitely.
This example illustrates the controls without prescribing a Bitcoin price, percentage, trade or investment decision. Select values that fit your own plan and risk tolerance.
Limits you should understand before relying on an alert
- Delivery is conditional. App permissions, browser settings, connectivity and service status can affect whether you see a message.
- Timing is not execution. A notification can arrive after the market has moved, and it does not reserve a price.
- Expiry matters. Binance documents 90-day validity; CoinGecko Auto Price Alerts document 45-day expiry; TradingView exposes expiry controls with watchlist exceptions.
- Controls are version-specific. The cited pages do not establish identical layouts or feature availability in every country or app release.
- Alerts are informational. They do not assess whether a trade is suitable and do not replace checking the underlying market and your own records.
Final checklist
- Write the reason for the notification.
- Select the exact BTC pair and quote currency.
- Choose a directional operator that matches the reason.
- Decide between once and recurring behavior.
- Set expiry or confirm the documented validity period.
- Enable one delivery channel and the matching device permission.
- Name the alert and test that it appears in the active-alert list.
- Delete it when the decision is no longer relevant.
For current labels and limits, consult the service documentation: TradingView price alerts, TradingView alert configuration, Binance price alerts, Coinbase price alerts, CoinGecko manual alerts and CoinGecko Auto Price Alerts.
