The key level is approximately $80,000, not $8,000: losing that floor could expose a reported $76,000–$78,000 zone, while a decline before the November 3, 2026, U.S. midterm election could instead set up a rebound toward $95,000.
The other path is a rally into the vote, potentially toward $90,000, followed by a correction into the early $80,000s. Those are conditional analyst scenarios. Historical post-midterm declines provide context, but they do not prove that elections cause Bitcoin sell-offs.

What the $80,000 level means
The supplied headline’s $8,000 figure does not match the levels in the current scenario reporting. Analysts are discussing a Bitcoin support area near $80,000. A sustained break below it is treated as a technical switch: once support fails, momentum traders and leveraged positions can reinforce the move toward the reported $76,000–$78,000 downside zone.

Three election-cycle scenarios
| Scenario | Setup and timing | Reported levels | What would matter next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rally, then correction | Bitcoin strengthens into the November 3 vote and bullish sentiment attracts late long positions. | Move toward $90,000, then a retreat into the early $80,000s. | Whether the retreat holds above support or turns into a break below approximately $80,000. |
| Support break | Bitcoin loses the approximately $80,000 floor with momentum. | $76,000–$78,000 downside area. | Liquidations, declining rebounds and failure to reclaim the former support would increase trend risk. |
| Pre-election dip, then rebound | Bitcoin weakens before November 3 rather than rallying into the event. | Possible rebound toward $95,000. | A dip could be a higher-low setup if buyers regain control; it would be more serious if the decline creates successive lower highs and lows. |
Killa’s levels, as reported in the election-cycle analysis, are scenarios rather than verified forecasts. The same price can therefore have different meanings depending on when it is reached and what the market does afterward.
Rally into the vote
A pre-election advance can create a crowded trade. If Bitcoin approaches $90,000 while sentiment is strongly bullish, traders who entered late may be exposed to an event-driven reversal. A move back into the early $80,000s would test whether the rally built durable demand or mainly reflected positioning ahead of the vote.

Break below support
The approximately $80,000 threshold matters because a visible support failure can trigger systematic selling and forced exits. The reported $76,000–$78,000 zone is an extension of that bearish scenario, not a guaranteed destination. A quick recovery above support would weaken the breakdown signal; persistent trading below it would strengthen it.
Dip before the election
A decline before November 3 is not automatically the start of a lasting bear trend. The scenario report says such weakness could clear excess leverage and create room for a rebound toward $95,000. Confirmation would require observing the market’s subsequent structure rather than treating the target as a promise.

Why leverage can turn a normal move into a cascade
Coinotag reported that roughly $2 billion in Bitcoin long positions were liquidated during the recent slide. That figure illustrates the mechanism behind a trading trap: when leveraged longs are forced to close, their selling can push price through levels that might have held in an unleveraged market. The liquidation number describes a reported recent event, not a forecast of how much leverage will be present around the midterms.
For the election scenarios, leverage is a separate risk axis from direction. A rally can be vulnerable if it is built on crowded longs, while a pre-election dip can become constructive if forced selling reduces that crowding and price subsequently forms a higher low. Conversely, a break of support accompanied by continuing liquidations would make the $76,000–$78,000 case more plausible.

What the historical midterm pattern shows
TheStreet’s 2026 comparison lists the following Bitcoin declines after U.S. midterm elections:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| Midterm election | Reported Bitcoin decline afterward |
|---|---|
| 2010 | 72% |
| 2014 | 65% |
| 2018 | 52% |
| 2022 | 27% |
The sequence is striking, but it is not a standalone trading signal. The comparison does not establish that the elections caused the declines. Broader macroeconomic conditions, liquidity changes and crypto-specific shocks also affected Bitcoin in those periods. The smaller reported decline after 2022 is another reason not to treat the earlier percentages as a fixed election formula.

How to read the market around November 3, 2026
The most useful framework is to track four questions rather than guess one headline outcome:
- Where is price relative to approximately $80,000? A break, a reclaim and repeated rejection each imply different momentum.
- When does the move occur? A rally immediately before the vote carries different positioning risk from a sell-off weeks earlier.
- How much leverage is being forced out? Large liquidations can accelerate both a breakdown and the rebound that follows.
- Is market structure improving or deteriorating? A higher low after a dip supports the rebound scenario; lower highs and lower lows point to a deeper trend break.
This checklist does not turn the reported targets into certainties. It helps separate a price level from the evidence needed to interpret it.
Tom Lee’s August comment is not a Bitcoin target
BeInCrypto reported on August 14, 2026, that Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, said: “The end of August getting to 8,000 is going to set us up for a period where stocks could disappoint even though underlying fundamentals are good.” The statement was reported in a discussion about stocks, and the wording does not establish an $8,000 Bitcoin forecast. It should not be used to replace the approximately $80,000 Bitcoin level in the election scenarios.
What would invalidate each case?
- Rally-then-correction case: It loses force if Bitcoin cannot sustain the advance or if a pullback breaks support and fails to recover it.
- $80,000 breakdown case: It weakens if price quickly reclaims the level and establishes a higher low instead of continuing toward the reported $76,000–$78,000 zone.
- Pre-election dip and rebound case: It fails if weakness produces persistent lower highs and lower lows rather than a confirmed recovery toward the reported $95,000 area.
The 2026 midterms are scheduled for November 3. Until price action and positioning provide confirmation, the prudent reading is that Bitcoin faces competing conditional paths—not a predetermined post-election dump.
