That points to cooling momentum, not a confirmed deeper correction: the downside case depends on whether support levels give way. The figures below are dated reports, not live prices.
What is happening to Bitcoin and Ethereum?
Business Today estimated Bitcoin (BTC) at about $85,950, down roughly 0.2%, and Ethereum (ETH) at about $2,709, down roughly 0.3%, on October 7. It described both assets as trading in a relatively tight range and BTC as repeatedly failing to hold above the $87,000 area since September 23. These are that publication’s estimates, not a real-time market feed. Business Today, October 7, 2026

That pattern is consistent with a rally losing some momentum after a rebound. It does not, by itself, establish that a major reversal is underway. The practical question is whether BTC can reclaim nearby resistance or whether selling pushes it through the support levels cited by analysts.
Bitcoin: the $87,000 resistance test and downside conditions
What the recent price sequence shows
Rain’s October 5 review described BTC sweeping to $82,500 on September 28, reclaiming the $82,800 May high that day, then reaching $87,200 on October 2 before closing that day at $84,500. Rain treated $82,500 as the low whose sustained loss would invalidate its preferred near-term bullish scenario. Rain, October 5, 2026

How Rain framed the next levels
Rain’s conditional scenario called for a four-hour close above $86,800 as a signal for a possible move toward $88,000, the center of the short-liquidation pool it tracked. It said three consecutive four-hour closes below $82,500 would invalidate that scenario. These are one analyst’s technical rules—not guaranteed support, resistance, or price targets—and they depend on the chart data and timeframe used.
For readers assessing pullback risk, the distinction matters: a rejection near $87,000 is evidence of resistance in the cited reporting, while a deeper bearish confirmation would require the stated support condition to occur. Neither outcome is assured by the levels alone.

Ethereum: an earlier set of levels, not a fresh confirmation
CryptoCompass’s September 30 outlook placed ETH’s initial resistance test near $2,800. It identified $2,600 as a key lower threshold, with $2,450–$2,500 below it, and gave an approximate October range of $2,450–$3,050. ETH was estimated at $2,709 in Business Today’s October 7 snapshot, but the technical levels come from the earlier September 30 analysis and should not be treated as freshly verified. CryptoCompass, September 30, 2026 Business Today, October 7, 2026
In that outlook, a move below $2,600 would expose the $2,450–$2,500 zone. That is a scenario from the September 30 analysis, not proof that ETH is headed there. A current chart check would be needed to judge whether those levels remain relevant.

| Nearest cited levels | Resistance around $87,000 in Business Today’s October 7 report; Rain’s October 5 scenario used $86,800 for a four-hour close and $82,500 as the key downside level. | September 30 CryptoCompass outlook: resistance near $2,800, with $2,600 as the lower threshold and $2,450–$2,500 below it. |
| Scenario condition | Rain’s preferred scenario called for a four-hour close above $86,800; three consecutive four-hour closes below $82,500 would invalidate it. | CryptoCompass said losing $2,600 would expose $2,450–$2,500; the cited outlook does not specify a confirmation rule comparable to Rain’s BTC rule. |
| ETF flow context | Rain reported $82.9 million in net U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows for September 28–October 2, after $2.4 billion the preceding week. | Rain reported $118.0 million in U.S. Ethereum ETF outflows for September 28–October 2. |
The cited flow figures describe different assets and the same week, but they do not establish why prices moved. The sources also do not provide a shared forecasting method or a risk-adjusted basis for calling one asset safer or more attractive.

Flows and positioning were mixed
Rain reported $82.9 million of net U.S. spot BTC ETF inflows from September 28 through October 2, compared with $2.4 billion the previous week. Rain said an October 1 outflow of $148.7 million ended a nine-day inflow run. For Ethereum ETFs, Rain reported $118.0 million in outflows over the cited week.

Rain also said BTC futures open interest had recovered 10.2% from that week’s low and funding had risen to 0.0083, against a stated neutral rate of 0.0100. Its interpretation was that returning leverage alongside relatively weak spot buying made it important to watch whether price could sustain a move through overhead liquidity. This is Rain’s reading of market positioning, not proof that leverage or ETF flows caused the price action.

Rates and the dollar formed part of the backdrop
Business Today noted trader caution ahead of Federal Reserve meeting minutes and a slightly firmer U.S. dollar as possible headwinds. Rain described changing market-implied expectations for an October rate hike following economic data and comments from a New York Fed official. Those reported expectations were estimates, not official Federal Reserve policy probabilities; neither source establishes that macro news alone drove BTC or ETH lower.
Quick Recap

How to read the pullback risk
- Momentum cooling: The October 7 report’s modest declines and BTC’s repeated difficulty around $87,000 support the description of a pause or consolidation.
- A conditional bearish case: Rain’s BTC downside scenario requires three consecutive four-hour closes below $82,500; the cited ETH analysis places $2,600 as a threshold whose loss could expose lower levels.
- Levels are not guarantees: Support and resistance depend on the data source, timeframe, and chart method. The cited ETH levels are from September 30, while Rain’s BTC rules are from October 5.
- Check the market before acting: Prices, ETF flows, funding, and technical levels change. These dated reports cannot substitute for current quotes or individualized financial advice.
