Building a site like birkly.io is less about an unusual page design than about making several familiar jobs work together: contact forms, a waitlist, sponsor placements, donations, a public supporter list and a members’ club. The hard requirement is continuity between them. In Rakete’s example, when a monthly donor cancels, the account remains while the supporter label changes.
Rakete describes Birkly as the tool used to create the site’s content, forms, emails, donation flow and club, and says the project motivated the platform. That is the author’s account, not an independently verified build or product audit. The practical question for anyone choosing a platform is: “Could you build birkly.io with it?”

What makes the site more than a collection of pages?
The example combines a set of connected workflows, each of which is ordinary on its own:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Content pages and sponsor slots that can be maintained alongside the rest of the site.
- A contact form that gathers messages.
- A waitlist with an email path for people who sign up.
- One-time and recurring donations.
- A public list that identifies supporters.
- A members’ club with accounts and community features.
The key design question is how these pieces share information. A donation form that accepts payments is not enough if a donor’s supporter status must also update, or if the same person should keep a club account after a recurring gift ends. Rakete’s example treats the cancelled donor as a continuing member whose supporter label changes—not as an account to delete. That is an account-lifecycle requirement, not merely a payment feature.

What should a platform comparison test?
Compare the end-to-end workflow rather than counting features or pages. For each candidate, establish:
- Whether people can choose custom one-time and recurring donation amounts.
- Whether donors and club members use one account or separate identities.
- What happens to account access and supporter labels when a recurring donation stops.
- How waitlist signups trigger email and follow-up automation.
- Whether hosting is included, and who handles ongoing maintenance.
- The total cost, with currency, billing period, payment fees, hosting and custom work separated.
Ask for a demonstration of the specific cancellation path: make a recurring contribution, cancel it, and check whether the account remains, the supporter marker changes, and club access follows the intended rule. A vendor’s list of payment or membership features does not establish that these steps are connected.

How does the source article compare the options?
Rakete’s article contrasts a combined workflow with platforms that would rely on apps, plugins, custom development or separate community products. Its judgments are the author’s assessment; they are not a shared, independently tested feature audit. The figures below are estimates reported in that article from September 2026, not current quotes or harmonized like-for-like costs.
| Option | What Rakete’s article says about the workflow | Reported cost estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Birkly | The article says it was used for content, forms, email automation, donations and the club, and that a server is needed. The article also describes AI assistance using the same admin controls. | €24.90 per month, paid yearly, plus hosting; reported by Rakete for September 2026. |
| Shopify | The article says pages and a waitlist are possible, while donations and club features call for apps or a separate community product. Current app listings advertise custom-amount donations and subscription options that list donations and custom pricing; neither listing proves a unified donor-to-club account lifecycle. | About $123 per month with hosting included; Rakete’s closest-setup estimate for September 2026. |
| WordPress | The article describes a multi-plugin setup and says connecting payments, accounts, supporter labels and community can involve custom work and maintenance. | About $44 per month plus custom development and hosting; Rakete’s estimate for September 2026. |
| Strapi | The article treats Strapi as a content system and says payments, email and community would require custom development or separate products. | not stated (Rakete’s article does not give a Strapi figure). |
| Webflow | The article says a close combination relies on other tools and does not reproduce the example’s donation and supporter-list workflow. This detailed limitation was not confirmed by an official Webflow feature source in the available material. | About $139 per month with hosting included; Rakete’s closest-setup estimate for September 2026. |
| Squarespace | The article argues that memberships are not necessarily the same as a social club with posts, comments and a donation-linked supporter label. Squarespace’s pricing page advertises digital memberships and publishes transaction-fee details, but does not establish the full workflow. | About $113 per month with hosting included; Rakete’s closest-setup estimate for September 2026. |
These amounts are not directly comparable: they use euros or dollars, and the article does not establish equivalent treatment of payment fees, hosting, custom development or community functions across every option. Rakete says card fees are additional. The figures are useful as a dated reference point, not as a substitute for current vendor pricing and a scoped implementation estimate.

What do the platform examples establish—and what do they not?
Birkly
Rakete writes that “birkly.io is not an overcomplicated website.” The article’s point is that the challenge is connecting routine functions, and it describes Birkly as the platform behind the example’s content, forms, emails, donations and club. It also says a server is needed. These are claims from the article, not independent confirmation of Birkly’s current capabilities, implementation requirements or price.
Shopify
The source article characterizes Shopify as needing apps for donations and a separate community product for the club. That should not be read as a blanket claim that Shopify cannot take flexible donations: the Lift app listing advertises custom donation amounts, and the Seal Subscriptions listing describes donations, recurring payments and custom pricing. Those app descriptions do not answer whether donors and club members share an account or whether cancellation updates a supporter label correctly.

WordPress and Strapi
Rakete’s comparison presents WordPress as a multi-plugin route and Strapi as a content system that would need separate products or custom development for payment, email and community needs. It also flags integration and maintenance work for the WordPress path. The article does not independently verify every possible plugin combination, so treat this as an implementation approach to investigate, not a universal limit of either platform.
Webflow and Squarespace
The source says Webflow’s closest arrangement requires other tools and does not match the donation and supporter-list workflow. No official Webflow feature source in the available material confirms that detailed assessment. For Squarespace, its official pricing page confirms advertised digital memberships and publishes transaction-fee information; those facts alone do not show whether it supports the example’s social-club features and donation-linked labels.

How to choose without being misled by feature lists
- Write the account rules first. Specify whether a donor automatically becomes a club member, which features they can access, and what changes after a donation ends.
- Map the data and email path. Trace a waitlist signup, contact message, donation and cancellation from form submission to account status and email follow-up.
- Request a workflow demonstration. Verify that identity, payment status, labels and club access stay consistent across the exact steps that matter.
- Separate software from implementation costs. Get the plan price, hosting, payment processing fees, required app or plugin charges, custom development and maintenance responsibilities in writing.
- Confirm current details with vendors. Features, apps, plans and pricing can change; use current vendor documentation and a scoped quote rather than carrying forward a September 2026 estimate.
