ABC and A&E describe him as Holmes’s partner or fiancé, but neither outlet reports a marriage date or certificate, so calling him her “husband” goes beyond what has been publicly documented. Evans is a member of the San Diego hotel family behind Evans Hotels, studied economics at MIT, and became central to the access and family story in Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary You Can See Everything.
Who is Billy Evans?
Evans comes from the family that founded Evans Hotels in San Diego. A&E reports that his grandparents, William and Anne Evans, established the hotel group in 1953. The family connection is the clearest public explanation of his background; detailed information about his personal life has otherwise been limited compared with the extensive coverage of Holmes and Theranos.

He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2015, earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics. His studies also included Chinese language and literature, and he studied at Fudan University. A&E lists previous work at companies including Luminar Technologies.

Public descriptions remain “partner” and “fiancé.” ABC and A&E do not identify a wedding date, marriage filing or certificate. Holmes and Evans have been together for years and are raising two children, but the available reporting does not establish that they legally married. The careful answer is therefore that Evans is Holmes’s longtime partner or fiancé, not a publicly verified husband.

How many children do Holmes and Evans have?
They have two children:
| Child | What has been reported |
|---|---|
| William Holmes Evans | A&E reports that he was born in July 2021. |
| Invicta | A&E reports that she was born in early 2023, a few months before Holmes entered federal prison. |
In an ABC report published in October 2026, Evans said the children visit Holmes weekly while she is incarcerated. ABC described the son as 5 and the daughter as 3 at the time of that report. Evans also said he answers their difficult questions truthfully rather than hiding the basic facts of their mother’s situation.
What role does Evans play in You Can See Everything?
The documentary follows the period immediately before and after Holmes began serving her federal sentence. According to The Associated Press, Holmes and Evans allowed the filmmakers into their beachside cottage in Del Mar, California, beginning 34 days before Holmes reported to prison in May 2023. Director Nathan Fielder eventually stayed with the family for about 20 days.

Filming continued secretly over roughly three years. Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim continued working with Evans and maintaining contact with Holmes through 2025, making Evans more than a background interview subject: he is the person who helped make sustained access to the family possible.
Variety reports that Fielder had read John Carreyrou’s 2018 book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup before meeting Holmes through A24. Fielder has said he remains unsure how to interpret what he experienced. His approach is deliberately observational rather than a conventional retrospective about Theranos.

Why did Evans agree to participate?
In an interview with David Friedberg on the All-In podcast, as reported by ABC on October 15, 2026, Evans explained the idea this way: “So the whole idea was here she is. See her and make up your own mind.” That comment frames the film as an opportunity for viewers to observe Holmes directly instead of relying only on previous news coverage or courtroom summaries.
Evans also acknowledged that he had not watched the finished film when he spoke with the podcast. “Well, I haven’t seen it yet. I mean, I might think this is like the dumbest thing I’ve ever done,” he said. The remark underscores the unusual position of appearing in a documentary made inside his family’s life while not yet knowing how the final edit would portray it.
