Big Sky Industrial says it is moving beyond its legacy oil-and-gas business by developing the Big Sky Carbon Hub, a Montana project intended to produce helium, capture carbon dioxide and support sequestration and oil recovery. The company targets first helium sales in Q1 2027 and reports a five-year take-or-pay offtake agreement. Those are company disclosures and targets—not evidence that the project is operating or that its projected economics have been achieved.
What Big Sky is building
Big Sky presents the Carbon Hub as an integrated helium and carbon-management development alongside its legacy Cut Bank oil field. The company describes a process in which helium production yields a substantial CO2 stream, which it plans to capture for sequestration and oil recovery. The company’s investor-relations site attributes the project figures below to its Q1 2026 Form 10-Q, an industrial-gas volumetric resource report prepared by Ryder Scott, and its May 2026 investor presentation. They are company-reported figures, not independent re-estimates.
| Company-reported figure | What it describes | Attribution |
|---|---|---|
| 1.3 Bcf | Phase 1 helium resource | Big Sky investor-relations site; figures attributed there to the Q1 2026 Form 10-Q and Ryder Scott report |
| 444 Bcf | CO2 resource | Big Sky investor-relations site; attributed there to the Q1 2026 Form 10-Q |
| 110,000 acres | Combined development acreage | Big Sky investor-relations site; attributed there to the Q1 2026 Form 10-Q and May 2026 investor presentation |
These measurements describe the company’s stated resource and acreage basis; they do not, by themselves, establish recoverable production, construction completion or commercial cash flow. See Big Sky Industrial’s investor-relations site for the company’s project disclosures.
What management said about the business model
At the October 1, 2026 Noble Capital Markets Emerging Growth Virtual Equity Conference, CEO Ryan Smith framed helium as the initial commercial driver, with carbon capture and oil recovery as additional parts of the project’s economics. He said: “The first step in making money here is the helium. As part of that helium production and processing process, there’s a very large amount of CO2 that’s created at this helium plant. We capture 100% of that CO2, and we do 2 things with it.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is management’s description of the planned process, not independent confirmation of achieved capture rates or operating results. Smith also said management believes a growing share of the project’s economics could come from industrial gas as additional processing capacity is deployed. This is a strategic thesis, not a validated valuation conclusion. The conference transcript is available from Investing.com.
Offtake terms and first-sales target
Big Sky’s investor-relations site targets first helium sales in Q1 2027 and reports that 100% of helium offtake is covered by a five-year take-or-pay agreement with an investment-grade counterparty. The cited conference material does not name the buyer.

At the conference, Smith described a base price of $285 per MCF, CPI-based escalation beginning in 2028, and a price redetermination in year three. These are terms as he described them at the October 1 conference; the target date and contract terms do not mean commercial sales have begun.
Construction and permitting are still dependencies
Smith said construction had begun and described late Q1 2027 as the target for first sales. He also said the company was awaiting an EPA permit for sequestration operations, and identified continuing construction and budget execution as key milestones. These are statements made at the conference, not independently verified current construction or permitting status. The cited material does not establish that the permit has been issued or that the schedule has been met.

45Q estimates and proposed credit monetization
Big Sky’s investor-relations page gives an approximately $130 million Phase 1 value from 45Q tax credits over 12 years and explicitly identifies the figure as a management estimate. At the conference, Smith discussed potentially pulling forward $70 million to $95 million by selling or monetizing credits, describing the prospective capital as non-dilutive support for further processing and development.
The potential proceeds are a financing plan, not cash reported as received or a transaction described as secured. The estimate and possible monetization depend on project execution and permitting; the cited materials do not establish realized credit value or proceeds.

How to read the “de-risking” claim
“De-risking” is management’s characterization of the gas pivot, not a conclusion that the project has cleared its main execution risks. The disclosures describe a contracted sales framework and stated project resources, but also a development that still depends on construction, budget execution and a sequestration permit. They do not establish operating production, achieved economics or a completed financing transaction.
For investors assessing this project or comparing it with other industrial-gas and carbon-management developers, the useful tests are project stage and permit status; offtake commitment and buyer disclosure; the basis for resource figures; construction schedule and budget; financing already secured versus proposed; and actual production and cash flow versus management estimates. The cited conference materials do not provide a complete peer dataset for ranking Big Sky against competitors.
