Big data and AI may help researchers find patterns in aging, hormones, and muscle health, but they have not established a proven longevity or hormone-optimization protocol for consumers. For age-related muscle loss, clinical guidance puts non-drug care first; hormone decisions depend on a medical indication, symptoms, reliable measurements, risks, and personal context—not a dashboard score alone.
Can AI help you live longer?
AI can help researchers analyze large biomedical datasets and look for patterns that would be difficult to detect by examining individual records. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) supports AI-ready datasets, research algorithms, and multidisciplinary work that addresses transparency, privacy, and equity. That is a research opportunity, not evidence that an AI service can prescribe a treatment that extends an individual user’s life.

To show that an AI-guided program improves longevity or health, it would need evidence from relevant clinical outcomes—not simply a prediction, correlation, or personalized-looking recommendation. The NIH’s policy guidance also warns that sending research data to an external AI provider can expose it to unauthorized disclosure. That concern is especially relevant when datasets combine health records with measurements collected over many years.
- What AI may support: analysis of biomedical data and the development of hypotheses for further study.
- What it does not establish by itself: that a commercial longevity plan works, that its recommendations are safe, or that a particular hormone level is an ideal target.
- What to check in a tool: whether its claimed outcomes have been clinically validated, where its data came from and whom they represent, how it protects privacy, how its recommendations are explained, and whether a qualified clinician is involved.
Why a hormone reading or dashboard score needs context
Hormone results can be difficult to interpret without knowing the clinical question, the measurement method, and the person’s health history. The Endocrine Society’s scientific statement calls for accurate, standardized hormone assays and harmonized reference ranges. It also cautions that assay choice can affect whether low testosterone is identified. A single result or composite score therefore should not be treated as a diagnosis or a validated muscle-preservation target.

Personalization is only useful when the underlying measurements and evidence are dependable. For any data-driven health service, ask what outcome it has been shown to improve, whether that outcome matters to patients, and whether its evidence applies to people like you. A prediction about future risk is not the same as proof that following the service’s recommendations changes that risk.
What can you do about age-related muscle loss?
For sarcopenia—age-related loss of muscle strength and function—the International Clinical Practice Guidelines for Sarcopenia (ICFSR) place non-pharmacological management first. The guideline conditionally recommends combining nutritional supplementation with physical activity for older adults with sarcopenia, but rates the evidence for that combination as very low certainty because the available studies are few, small, imprecise, and have bias concerns. It is not a blanket instruction for everyone to take supplements.
Rank #2
That distinction matters: a conditional recommendation with very low-certainty evidence does not establish one supplement, dose, or exercise plan for every person. A clinician can help assess muscle symptoms and function, consider contributing health issues, and decide whether individualized nutrition or activity support is appropriate. The ICFSR guideline does not test or endorse any particular consumer device or exercise product; resistance bands, for example, may be one optional aid for home activity, not a substitute for assessment or a tailored plan.

Can testosterone help build muscle as you age?
Testosterone has biological effects on muscle, but biological plausibility and an association between low testosterone and muscle loss do not prove that prescribing testosterone improves strength, daily function, or longevity. The ICFSR guideline says evidence is insufficient to recommend anabolic hormones for sarcopenia and advises that pharmacologic treatment should not be first-line management.

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) describes approved testosterone products as treatment for men with low testosterone associated with a medical condition. That is different from using testosterone generally for aging, energy, or muscle gain. Whether treatment is appropriate depends on the individual medical indication and clinical assessment.
The FDA’s 2026 summary of the TRAVERSE postmarketing trial reports major adverse cardiovascular events in 7.0% of participants receiving AndroGel 1.62% and 7.3% receiving placebo. More than 5,200 men received at least one dose in the trial. The FDA said the trial did not show a new cardiovascular safety signal; the event rates do not show that testosterone is appropriate for every older man or establish it as a muscle-building or longevity treatment.

In June 2026, the FDA requested updates to testosterone product prescribing information, including removal of the age-related hypogonadism limitation and revisions to prostate-related information. The regulatory update does not turn age-related muscle loss, low energy, or a consumer AI recommendation into a medical indication. Treatment decisions still require an assessment of the person’s symptoms, diagnosis, potential benefits, and risks.

Usually, a hormone test is not needed just to determine where someone is in the menopause transition. NIH explains that hormone levels can fluctuate substantially during this period, limiting the value of a single result. Testing may be considered in a specific clinical context, but a lab number should not replace an assessment of symptoms and health history.

For bothersome menopause symptoms, treatment decisions depend on symptoms, medical history, and personal preferences. NIH says the benefit-risk profile of menopausal hormone therapy is generally more favorable for healthy women with bothersome symptoms who are younger than 60 or within 10 years of menopause onset. Hormone therapy also has risks and is not appropriate for everyone; this general guidance is not a personal recommendation.
What is known about testosterone for menopausal women’s muscle health?
There is not enough evidence here to promise that testosterone improves muscle health for menopausal women or is safe for long-term use. In an August 2026 notice, the FDA identified important knowledge gaps in testosterone use for menopausal women, including musculoskeletal effects, measurement challenges, and long-term cardiovascular and breast-cancer safety.
The Endocrine Society’s scientific statement also cautions against broad claims based on testosterone’s biological effects. It summarizes the Testosterone Trials in older men as showing modest, transient benefit for sexual function, but no benefit for vitality or physical or cognitive function. Those findings are specific to the studied population and outcomes; they do not establish a benefit for women’s muscle health.
How to judge an AI longevity or hormone service
A polished interface, a large dataset, or a personalized report cannot substitute for evidence that a service improves meaningful health outcomes. Before relying on recommendations about hormones or muscle, consider:
- Outcome evidence: Has the service been shown to improve a clinical outcome, or does it only generate predictions and recommendations?
- Data quality and relevance: Are data sources and limitations explained, and are the people represented in the data relevant to the person receiving advice?
- Measurement: Are hormone tests performed and interpreted in a clinically appropriate context, with attention to assay limitations?
- Privacy and transparency: Does the provider explain how sensitive health data are stored, used, and shared, including with external AI providers?
- Clinical oversight: Is a qualified clinician involved in assessing symptoms, medical history, and treatment risks rather than simply approving an algorithm’s output?
- Clear indication: Does the recommendation address a diagnosed condition or a symptom-based clinical need, rather than treating aging itself as a reason to prescribe hormones?
For both muscle care and hormone treatment, the useful question is not whether a system can generate a personalized target, but whether that target is based on reliable measurements and evidence that applies to the person and outcome in question.
