Kioxia’s Generation 10 display was described as 1Tb TLC with CBA technology and 332 layers; SanDisk’s Generation 8 display was shown under a microscope and on a wafer, without a capacity or layer count reported. These exhibition images reveal the technology at different scales, but do not identify NAND inside any particular retail SSD.
What BiCS NAND is—and what the display can tell you
BiCS FLASH is the NAND flash technology jointly developed by Kioxia and SanDisk, according to ServeTheHome’s FMS 2026 coverage. NAND flash stores data in memory cells and is packaged for use in products such as SSDs and other devices. Looking at a wafer, a cut through a die, or an opened package shows different physical scales of that technology; it does not, by itself, establish how a finished drive performs.
Kioxia’s BiCS FLASH Generation 10 display
Wafer specifications reported at FMS
Kioxia showed a BiCS FLASH Generation 10 wafer. ServeTheHome describes it as 1Tb TLC NAND using CBA technology, with 332 layers. Those figures apply to the Kioxia Gen 10 display as reported in the coverage; they are not specifications for the separate SanDisk Gen 8 demonstration.
Cross-section and microscope views
Kioxia also presented a die cross-section and a microscope view. The coverage notes visible offsets in the stack and package balls that help convey scale. These images make the physical arrangement easier to inspect, but the report does not supply a layer-counting convention or technical definition of CBA, nor does it include measurements or a test method. The stated layer count should therefore be read as the article’s description, not as a separately explained measurement.

SanDisk’s BiCS FLASH Generation 8 display
SanDisk showed a BiCS FLASH Generation 8 wafer and a microscope demonstration. The coverage includes views of package wiring and memory cells. It does not state the Gen 8 die’s capacity or layer count. Those missing figures are not evidence that the Gen 8 display has the same specifications as Kioxia’s Gen 10 wafer, or that it differs in any particular performance measure.
What the two demonstrations establish
| Display | What was shown | Specifications stated in the coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Kioxia BiCS FLASH Generation 10 | Wafer, die cross-section and microscope view | 1Tb TLC; CBA technology; 332 layers |
| SanDisk BiCS FLASH Generation 8 | Wafer and microscope views, including package wiring and cells | Capacity and layer count not stated in the coverage |
This is a comparison of what the FMS displays and the report documents, not a head-to-head product comparison. No relative speed, density, power, endurance, cost, or commercial availability is established by these images or the coverage.

From a NAND package to an SSD
NAND packages are used in SSDs and other devices, so the microscopic structures have a direct connection to storage products. But the FMS report does not name a retail SSD containing the silicon shown, confirm that either display corresponds to a shipping product, or provide drive-level performance results. A wafer or package photo is evidence of a demonstration—not proof of adoption in a specific model.
