An administrative inquiry in Bhadohi found four doctors and a staff nurse seriously negligent after 20-year-old Rani Vanvasi reportedly delivered by the roadside following an alleged denial of admission at Maharaja Chet Singh Government District Hospital. The finding is an inquiry result, not a reported criminal court conviction. Vanvasi’s family alleged that staff refused to attend to her because she is from the Musahar community; that allegation has not been established as the inquiry’s conclusion.
What happened in Bhadohi
According to reports by Hindustan Times and The Times of India, Vanvasi’s family took her to Maharaja Chet Singh Government District Hospital on Monday. Hospital staff reportedly cited anaemia and an inability to arrange blood as reasons for not admitting her. The Times of India reported that her brother was willing to donate blood.
Vanvasi reportedly delivered on the roadside on Tuesday night, assisted by relatives or other women accompanying her. The incident drew wider attention after a video circulated. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak then reportedly ordered an inquiry.
What the inquiry reportedly found
Chief Medical Officer Santosh Kumar Chak said a team formed under District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar submitted its findings on Thursday, 1 October 2026, according to the two reports. Hindustan Times identified the three members as Deputy Chief Medical Officers Ram Ashish Saroj and Om Prakash Shukla, and gynaecologist Shalini Pathak.

Hindustan Times reported that the inquiry found the hospital’s labour room locked and that senior staff managed the case by telephone instead of attending in person. It named Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Ajay Kumar Tiwari, gynaecologists Dr Neelima Dhawan and Dr Mukesh Prajapati, Dr Pankaj Kumar, and staff nurse Neelam Maurya among those found responsible for serious negligence.
What “found guilty” means—and does not mean
In this coverage, “found guilty” describes the administrative inquiry’s finding of negligence. The available reports do not say that a criminal court convicted any staff member. The inquiry’s reported finding should not be presented as a court judgment.

The family’s allegation that Vanvasi was denied care because of her Musahar identity is separate from the negligence finding. The reports attribute that allegation to her family and political reactions; they do not establish that the inquiry concluded caste discrimination was the motive.

Hindustan Times, The Times of India, and Medical Dialogues provide reports of the inquiry and personnel actions, but the underlying inquiry report and a primary government order were not located in those accounts. Exact sanctions, and whether any action was final or recommended, therefore remain unclear from the available reporting.
