BGR’s Maren Estrada published this deal roundup roughly 10 months before August 18, 2026. Its “today” prices belonged to the original publication day, not to August 2026, and may have expired with the sale, coupon, inventory or seller conditions. One headline correction matters immediately: the $248 Sony product was the over-ear WH-1000XM5 noise-canceling headphone, not the in-ear WF-1000XM5 earbuds.
What the original roundup actually established
The BGR deals archive lists the headline “Today’s deals: $248 Sony XM5 earbuds, $180 Roomba, $13 Anker fast chargers, $19 Roku streamer, more.” The archive confirms the article and its author, but the available listing does not expose a complete, model-by-model shopping list. Because the original publication date is not shown in the available archive result, the safest date label is “approximately 10 months old” as of August 18, 2026. “Today” therefore referred to that earlier publication day. Prices, stock, coupons, shipping and marketplace sellers can change or disappear quickly.

Sony WH-1000XM5: the $248 deal
What it was
Sony’s WH-1000XM5 is a wireless, over-ear noise-canceling headphone. Sony’s WF-1000XM5 is the separate true-wireless earbud family. Contemporary deal coverage identified the $248 item as the WH-1000XM5, so “earbuds” in the BGR headline is a product-category error.
Was $248 a good price?
MacRumors reported $248 against a roughly $399 reference price, while WIRED described the same price as about $152 below a $400 list price. That is approximately a 38% discount and was near a historically low price, although the evidence does not establish an all-time record. The cited coverage is from July 2026, not a guarantee that the price remained available in August.

Buy if, skip if
- Buy if: you want premium over-ear noise cancellation, travel comfort and established app support at a substantial discount.
- Skip or compare first if: you need in-ear buds, the newer WH-1000XM6 is only modestly more expensive, or the seller cannot provide a clear new-condition warranty and return window.
Before paying, confirm the color, condition, seller, warranty and return policy. A lower marketplace price can mean used stock, an international version or reduced support. Compare the XM5 with the current-generation XM6 rather than treating an old $248 listing as automatically the best flagship value.
Roomba at $180: not enough information to identify the deal
The available evidence does not identify the Roomba series or model number, nor whether the unit was new, refurbished or marketplace stock. It also does not establish whether $180 required a coupon, membership, trade-in or other condition. Without that information, the claim cannot responsibly be presented as a verified $180 Roomba offer.

Checks that determine whether it is worthwhile
- Look for the exact model number and whether a self-emptying base is included.
- Confirm mapping, mopping and navigation features instead of assuming every Roomba has them.
- Check battery age for refurbished units and the availability and cost of filters, brushes and batteries.
- Verify app, Wi-Fi and return requirements.
A discounted older model can be poor value if consumables or app support are difficult to obtain. Roborock, Eufy and Shark provide alternatives, but the right comparison depends on the unidentified Roomba’s features and condition. iRobot’s official store is irobot.com.
Anker “fast chargers” at $13: model details are essential
No reliable result identifies the charger model, USB-C wattage, port count, package quantity, charging protocol or coupon terms. A $13 “fast charger” could be a single low-wattage adapter or a promotional multipack; those are not equivalent purchases.

Verify before buying
- USB-C Power Delivery (PD) and, where needed, PPS support.
- Total output and the per-port output when multiple devices charge simultaneously.
- Whether a cable is included, the plug standard and regional compatibility.
- Seller authenticity and applicable safety certification.
- Whether the displayed price requires an on-page coupon or membership.
Phone and tablet owners may be well served by a compact PD charger. Laptop buyers must match the computer’s required wattage, and anyone charging several high-power devices should check per-port limits. Until those specifications are known, the $13 claim should remain unverified. Anker’s official store is anker.com.
Roku at $19: confirm HD versus 4K
The exact Roku model in the BGR headline is not established. Walmart search results showed an HD Roku device at $19.88, while a separate Ars Technica roundup reported a Roku Streaming Stick Plus at $19 during an earlier Cyber Monday promotion. Those are different products and promotions, so neither proves which device BGR listed.

What to check on the listing
- Exact model and maximum resolution: HD or 4K.
- HDR and Dolby Vision support, if relevant to the television.
- Remote voice search and TV-control functions.
- Whether Roku, Walmart, Amazon or a marketplace seller supplied the device.
- Shipping, membership and tax costs that change the effective price.
An HD Roku can be a sensible inexpensive upgrade for an older secondary TV. It is a weak choice for a 4K set when the price gap to a current 4K model is small. Walmart’s historical listing is at Walmart; the separate historical Streaming Stick Plus reference is reported by Ars Technica.

What cannot be recovered from the headline alone
The word “more” implies additional headphones, smart-home devices, accessories or promotions, but the archive result does not reveal the complete article body. Reconstructing those products from snippets would risk assigning the wrong model or price. A definitive list requires the original article or an archived commerce record with item-level details.
How to read this roundup now
- Treat $248, $180, $13 and $19 as historical advertised prices, not August 2026 offers.
- Require a model number before judging a Roomba, charger or Roku bargain.
- Separate MSRP or a publication’s reference price from the prevailing market price.
- Check seller, condition, warranty, returns, shipping, tax and coupon requirements at checkout.
- For Sony, compare the discounted previous-generation XM5 with the newer XM6 and buy the XM5 only when the savings justify older hardware.
The Bottom Line
The Sony deal was a credible historical $248 price for WH-1000XM5 over-ear headphones, not earbuds. The $180 Roomba and $13 Anker claims remain too ambiguous to verify, and the $19 Roku figure depends on the exact model. None should be assumed available on August 2026 dates without a live, model-matched retailer listing.
