There is no safe, lawful deposit or withdrawal method for betting apps in Bangladesh. The Gambling Prevention Act, 2026 criminalizes involvement in online betting and specifically covers depositing, withdrawing or transferring money for online gambling. If a betting-related payment is disputed, contact your bank or mobile financial services (MFS) provider through an independently verified official channel; do not assume the money can be recovered.
What Bangladesh’s current law says
The official law database lists the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026 (Act No. 98 of 2026), dated July 1, 2026, as immediately effective. Section 6 states: “কোনো ব্যক্তি অনলাইন বেটিং এর সাথে সম্পৃক্ত হইলে তাহা হইবে অপরাধ।” In English: involvement in online betting is an offence. The Act repeals the Public Gambling Act, 1867, so the older law is not the current governing statute. Read the official law database.

The Act’s scope includes betting-account activity and money movement connected to online gambling. Section 14 addresses using banks, MFS, digital wallets, hawala, hundi or other financial arrangements to transact, transfer, conceal or legitimize gambling money. That means a familiar payment service does not make a betting transaction lawful.
Are deposits or withdrawals through bKash, Nagad or a bank legal?
The legal issue is the purpose of the transaction, not just which payment service is used. The Act specifically names deposits, withdrawals and transfers for online gambling and includes banks, MFS and digital wallets among the financial arrangements it addresses. This article therefore cannot recommend a payment channel or provide instructions for moving money into or out of a betting app.

Why borrowed accounts and false identities add risk
The Act specifically addresses false or ghost SIMs, fake MFS accounts, and using another person’s national ID, biometric information or digital identity to open or operate betting accounts. Using someone else’s account or identity can therefore create additional legal and financial exposure, including risks for the person whose details are used.
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit’s 2019–2020 annual report described historical online-gambling payment concerns involving intermediaries and MFS, alongside risks such as identity theft, gaming-account theft, fraud and money laundering. Those findings provide historical context; they are not a current prevalence estimate and do not establish that every provider or payment is involved. Read the BFIU annual report.
If a betting app will not return your money
No recovery outcome or official complaint route is established here. Avoid sending more money to unlock a withdrawal, pay a supposed release fee or verify an account, and do not hand over identity documents or account credentials to an intermediary claiming it can recover funds.

- Contact the bank or MFS provider involved using contact information you independently verify on its official app or website, or through its official customer-service channel. Explain that the transaction is disputed and ask what steps, if any, the provider can take.
- Keep receipts, transaction references, account messages, screenshots and relevant communications. Do not alter or delete records that may help explain what happened.
- Consider obtaining advice from a qualified local lawyer about your circumstances. Do not rely on an unverified hotline, portal, deadline or recovery service.
Do not rely on the repealed 1867 law
The official law database marks the Public Gambling Act, 1867 as repealed by the 2026 Act. For the current position on online betting and related money movement, consult the official law database rather than treating the older statute as current.
