There is no single bitrate for Airtel broadband: choose it according to your resolution, frame rate and encoder, then confirm that your actual upload connection can sustain it during a realistic test. YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p, 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60; Airtel’s advertised plan speed does not tell you your sustained upload bitrate.
Recommended YouTube bitrates for common live resolutions
YouTube publishes minimum and recommended encoder bitrates. The following H.264 figures are YouTube’s guidance, not guaranteed performance for any Airtel plan.
| Resolution and frame rate | Minimum H.264 bitrate | Recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
For AV1 and H.265/HEVC, YouTube lists separate ranges: 720p at 30 or 60 fps is 2–6 Mbps; 1080p30 is 4–10 Mbps; and 1080p60 is 4–12 Mbps, with the lower number the minimum and the higher number the recommendation. Use the figures for your chosen codec rather than mixing them with H.264 values. See YouTube Help’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Does Airtel’s 40 Mbps plan support 1080p?
Airtel’s listed Xstream Fiber tiers include advertised speeds of up to 40, 100 and 300 Mbps, as well as up to 1 Gbps. Some offers are limited to select geographies. Those figures describe advertised plan speeds; they do not establish the sustained upload bitrate available to an individual subscriber. Airtel’s plan details and availability can change, so check the current Airtel broadband plans for your address.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Airtel’s broadband explainer also notes that upload and download speeds both matter for streaming. Check upload performance rather than assuming it matches the plan’s advertised speed: Airtel’s broadband explainer. A 40 Mbps plan label alone cannot establish whether your connection will reliably handle a particular 1080p setting. The same limitation applies to higher advertised tiers.
How to choose a bitrate that holds steady
- Pick the output first. Decide whether you need 720p or 1080p and 30 or 60 fps. Higher resolution and frame rate may require more upload capacity.
- Use the matching codec guidance. Find the minimum and recommended bitrate for the selected resolution, frame rate and codec in the tables above. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate before a live event.
- Test under realistic conditions. Run a test stream before the event with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast. Test when the people and devices that normally share the connection are using it, if that is how you expect to stream.
- Adjust if the test is unstable. Lower the bitrate, move from 1080p to 720p, or reduce 60 fps to 30 fps, then test again. A setting below YouTube’s recommended value may be a practical compromise if the connection cannot hold the recommended rate.
- Monitor stream health while live. YouTube advises checking stream health during the broadcast; a successful speed test by itself does not guarantee that conditions will remain stable.
YouTube’s own guidance says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate,” and advises, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Both statements appear in YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Encoder settings that matter
- Protocol: Use RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codecs. Choose the matching codec-specific bitrate guidance.
- Rate control: Set constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds.
These settings are from YouTube’s encoder guidance. Your encoder may label or expose these options differently.
Troubleshooting an unstable stream
- The stream buffers or loses quality: The selected bitrate may exceed what your upload can sustain, or the connection may be shared or varying. Lower the bitrate or output resolution, then test again.
- A speed test looks fast, but the broadcast struggles: A test result does not prove the upload will remain steady during a live event. Repeat the test with realistic network use and monitor YouTube stream health.
- You are unsure whether 1080p60 will work: Do not infer support from Airtel’s plan label. Test at the relevant H.264 reference of 17 Mbps, or use a lower setting if the test is unstable.
- Your encoder’s codec differs from H.264: Do not apply H.264 figures automatically. Use YouTube’s separate AV1 or H.265/HEVC ranges if that is the codec being sent.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
