For a mostly static music stream, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 video, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendation for 1080p30 is 14 Mbps, but choose a bitrate your connection can sustain with headroom. Before planning a full-day broadcast, account for two important limits: streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all, and music must be cleared for livestream use.
Recommended settings for a 24/7 music stream
These are a practical starting point for a largely static image with music, not a special YouTube preset for music or continuous broadcasts. YouTube’s recommendations depend on resolution, frame rate, and codec; the bitrate is an ingest target, not a guarantee of playback quality for every viewer.

| Setting | Starting point | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. HLS is also available to compatible encoders, but it has higher latency and stricter segment and playlist requirements. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video resolution and frame rate | 1080p, 30 fps | A sensible starting choice for a static or slowly changing visual. YouTube’s bitrate table is based on resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than music genre. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video codec | H.264 | A broadly practical choice. YouTube also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest when the encoder supports them. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video bitrate at 1080p30 | 14 Mbps for H.264 | YouTube Help’s current recommended H.264 ingest bitrate, accessed October 3, 2026. Its recommendation at the same resolution and frame rate is 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video bitrate at 720p30 | 8 Mbps for H.264 | YouTube Help’s recommended H.264 bitrate, accessed October 3, 2026. Lower resolution can be a better choice than an unstable 1080p feed. YouTube encoder settings |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube lists constant bitrate as the recommended rate-control mode. YouTube encoder settings |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends keyframes every 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. YouTube encoder settings |
| Audio codec and format | AAC, stereo, 128 Kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube’s general live audio recommendation for stereo. It also supports MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS. YouTube encoder settings |
| SDR color and frame format | Rec. 709, 8-bit, square pixels, progressive scan | Use these SDR recommendations if your encoder exposes the controls; avoid overriding settings the encoder handles correctly by default. YouTube encoder settings |
Choose a bitrate your connection can actually sustain
The recommended bitrate only works if the upload connection can hold it reliably. Run an upload speed test from the location and network you will stream from, then leave capacity for normal variation and other traffic. YouTube recommends 20% headroom and says your primary stream, any backup stream, and that headroom should fit within available upload capacity. YouTube encoder settings · YouTube streaming tips

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- If the connection is marginal, reduce resolution or bitrate before going live rather than pushing a setting that produces interruptions.
- Include a backup ingest stream’s bitrate in your bandwidth calculation; it uses upload capacity too.
- For mostly static artwork, 30 fps is a reasonable choice. YouTube’s published table does not set a separate bitrate based on the content being music.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select the encoder workflow. Follow YouTube’s prompts to obtain the stream URL and stream key. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- In your encoder, choose RTMPS if it is supported, then enter the stream URL and key in the corresponding server and key fields.
- Apply the video, audio, bitrate, rate-control, and keyframe settings above. If you use HLS instead, make sure your encoder supports YouTube’s segment-format and playlist requirements.
- Keep the stream key private: it gives an encoder access to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Send a test containing the actual playlist audio and visual. In YouTube Live Control Room, check stream health and messages, and listen for clipping, silence, channel imbalance, and abrupt transitions before relying on the feed.
If you have never streamed live from the channel, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Leave time for that before a planned start. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Plan for continuity, archives, and DVR
Keep the broadcast healthy over a long run
A 24/7 stream depends on more than encoder settings. Plan for power and network continuity, encoder restarts, and a way to notice if playback becomes silent or the visual freezes. These are operational precautions, not additional YouTube-required settings. Check the live health indicators after launch rather than assuming a stream that started successfully will remain healthy indefinitely.
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a full 24-hour run
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends making a local archive recording as a backup. If preserving individual replays matters, plan local recording and consider dividing programming into shorter sessions instead of promising a complete replay of a continuous broadcast. Very long streams may not offer full rewind
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind live streams, but DVR features may be limited or unavailable when a stream exceeds 12 hours. Do not promise viewers they can rewind the entire 24/7 broadcast. Turn on DVR on live streams
Clear music rights before you go live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If copyrighted material is identified and remains in the broadcast, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream; copyright strikes can also end it. The channel owner is responsible for securing the rights required for livestreaming, including relevant rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other participants. - FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

- Check that the license explicitly covers livestream use, the relevant territories, the visual component if applicable, and any archive or replay you intend to make available.
- Keep records of permissions and ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to a Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that a stream can be interrupted even if the content is licensed when the channel is not allowlisted. Copyright issues with live streams
- Do not treat Creator Music as clearance for a live playlist. YouTube says its licensed and revenue-sharing tracks may be used in long-form videos, not livestreams. Its usage page describes availability for US creators in the YouTube Partner Program and says expansion outside the US is pending. Understand Creator Music usage details
Run the playlist from your own encoder or from the cloud
Do it yourself with an encoder
The YouTube Studio and encoder setup above is the do-it-yourself route: your encoder sends the playlist feed to YouTube, so plan for the computer, power, network connection, and playback to keep working. For local preservation of a broadcast, YouTube recommends recording an archive on your own system. Storage needs depend on the recording bitrate, codec, and duration; choose capacity based on those values rather than assuming a fixed drive size.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video playlist live on YouTube from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is #1 among the options here for keeping a playlist on continuously because it runs without a home computer and accepts uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. To try it, start a StreamNeo free day.
