For Xiao, start with ATK% sands, an Anemo DMG Bonus goblet, and a CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG circlet. Build enough Energy Recharge (ER) to use his Elemental Burst reliably in your team, then improve CRIT and ATK. He is an on-field Anemo plunge carry whose Burst boosts plunges and drains HP, so Burst uptime and healing matter as much as the damage shown on his stat screen.
What stats should Xiao have?
Icy Veins’ version 7.0 guide gives the following targets for a Xiao with a good weapon and decent artifact rolls. Treat them as guide benchmarks, not required thresholds: weapon, team, buffs, artifact set, and substat quality all affect the balance.

| Stat | Icy Veins guide target | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 18,000–20,000 | His Burst drains HP, so healing and team support are important; this is a guide target, not a survivability requirement. |
| ATK | 2,100–2,300 | Supports his damage scaling; improve it after meeting your team’s ER needs and building CRIT. |
| CRIT Rate | 70–75% | Helps make his plunge damage consistent. |
| CRIT DMG | 190–220% | Pair with a useful CRIT Rate rather than chasing this figure alone. |
| Anemo DMG Bonus | 46.6% | The guide’s target for an Anemo goblet; it is not a universal total-damage threshold. |
| Energy Recharge | 120–140% | Adjust to the team and whether Xiao has an Anemo battery. |
The ranges come from Icy Veins’ Xiao guide, updated August 10, 2026 for version 7.0: Xiao Guide and Best Builds. They are guide recommendations, not measured player averages.

Main stats
- Sands: ATK% is the standard starting choice.
- Goblet: Anemo DMG Bonus is the usual pick. An ATK% goblet can be considered if its substats are exceptional, but Icy Veins says Anemo DMG goblets tend to perform better.
- Circlet: Choose CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG according to which brings your overall CRIT balance closer to a useful ratio.
Substats
Prioritize the CRIT stats while keeping enough ER for your actual rotation; ATK% is another valuable offensive roll. The order is conditional rather than absolute: Icy Veins puts ER first in its substat priority because Burst uptime matters, while Genshin-Build places ER after CRIT and ATK%. Once Xiao can Burst reliably, offensive rolls have more value than excess ER.

How much Energy Recharge does Xiao need?
Xiao’s Burst costs 70 Energy, according to Genshin-Build’s version 7.0 data. Icy Veins recommends 120–140% ER, with the amount depending on the team and Anemo battery. Use that range as a starting point, then check whether Xiao can consistently refill his Burst by the time the next rotation needs it. If not, add ER or adjust the team; if he already has reliable uptime, invest more in damage stats.
Team composition changes the answer. An Anemo battery can reduce Xiao’s ER burden, so a number that works in one lineup may leave another short. Genshin-Build’s example team is Xiao, Durin, Xianyun, and Faruzan; it describes Xianyun as a plunge support and healer and Faruzan as Anemo support. That is one example, not a required roster.
Which artifact set is best for Xiao?
Current guides do not agree on a single winner, in part because they use different ranking methods. Icy Veins’ version 7.0 guide calls Long Night’s Oath Xiao’s best set and Vermillion Hereafter competitive. Genshin-Build ranks Desert Pavilion Chronicle first using arithmetic over kit data and says its ranking is not an imported playtested damage ranking. Compare the set you already own with the cost of farming rather than treating any ranking as universal.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| Artifact set | What the cited guide says | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Long Night’s Oath | Icy Veins calls it Xiao’s current best set. Its 2-piece effect increases Plunging Attack DMG by 25%; the 4-piece effect accumulates plunge damage bonuses. | A current recommended target if you are choosing a set to farm and can improve on your existing pieces. |
| Vermillion Hereafter | Icy Veins calls it competitive and says an already excellent set may not justify replacing it. | Keep or use it when your pieces have strong substats; a theoretical upgrade may not repay the resin and time spent refarming. |
| Desert Pavilion Chronicle | Genshin-Build ranks it first using kit-data arithmetic, not an imported playtested damage ranking; it lists ATK% / Anemo DMG / CRIT main stats. | Consider it if its actual pieces suit your build, while accounting for the ranking’s calculation basis. |
| Marechaussee Hunter | Icy Veins describes it as a good option with Furina, whose HP drain accelerates its stacks. | A team-dependent choice rather than the default set. |
When comparing sets, look at the actual substats, whether you already own a strong set, team buffs and HP manipulation, and how the guide arrived at its ranking. A small theoretical gain may not justify starting a long farm.

Which polearm should you use?
Weapon rankings also differ between the current guides, so choose based on what you own and how it fits your build. Icy Veins lists Primordial Jade Winged-Spear first and calls Staff of Homa a strong option; its alternatives include Calamity Queller, Deathmatch, and Lithic Spear. Lithic Spear’s value depends on how many Liyue characters are in the party. Genshin-Build ranks Bloodsoaked Ruins first by kit-data fit, followed by Calamity Queller and Lithic Spear, but explicitly says its ordering is arithmetic rather than a playtested damage ranking.
For a practical comparison, consider the weapon’s refinement, how its stats affect your CRIT balance and ATK, whether its passive stays active in your rotation, and any party-composition restriction. Neither ranking establishes one polearm as best for every account.

What rotation helps Xiao use his Burst reliably?
- Use both Elemental Skill charges before the Burst. Icy Veins says Xiao’s Skill does not generate Energy while he is under his Burst, so using the charges first helps avoid losing those Energy opportunities.
- Activate the Burst after the Skill charges. His Burst enables higher jumps, boosts plunge damage, converts his attacks to Anemo damage, and drains HP.
- Chain plunges during the Burst. Occasional normal or charged attacks can vary the sequence; Icy Veins suggests distinct patterns for single-target and area encounters.
- Use team support and healing as part of the plan. Xiao’s Burst drains HP, and a support such as a healer can make the on-field sequence more comfortable.
When should you change your build?
- Burst is not ready when the next rotation begins: raise ER or add an Anemo battery before trading away more damage for a different artifact set.
- Burst is ready consistently: favor CRIT and ATK% substats over additional ER that does not improve your rotation.
- Your current set has excellent rolls: compare real stats before committing resin to a new set based only on a guide’s ranking.
- You are using Furina: Marechaussee Hunter may become a relevant set option because her HP drain accelerates its stacks.
- You are choosing between owned polearms: compare their effect on your stat balance, passive uptime, refinement, and party restrictions rather than relying on one universal order.
These recommendations reflect guides updated for version 7.0 in August 2026. Xiao builds are patch-sensitive, so reassess after major game updates.
