The strongest picks by mood and genre
Hades II: the best all-round action recommendation
Supergiant’s Hades II is the choice for players who enjoy learning enemy patterns, refining a build and immediately trying another run after a defeat. Xbox describes an endlessly replayable Underworld action game in which the story reacts to setbacks and accomplishments. That combination gives each attempt two purposes: improve your combat decisions and reveal more of the narrative.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
It suits a controller-first player who wants demanding real-time combat rather than a slow progression system. Runs are naturally modular, so you can play a short attempt or settle in for repeated sessions. The April 7, 2026 Xbox update lists cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC Game Pass support.
Replaced: cinematic action in an alternate 1980s
Replaced comes from Sad Cat Studios and follows R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body. Xbox presents it as a cinematic 2.5D action platformer set in an alternate 1980s cyberpunk thriller. Its strongest appeal is the contrast between story-led presentation and hands-on platforming, rendered in striking pixel art.
Pick it when you want a directed solo adventure rather than an endlessly repeatable game. The April 2026 release notes list it as a day-one addition for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, so tier eligibility matters more here than for a generic “Game Pass” label.
Tiny Bookshop: a low-pressure management game
In Tiny Bookshop, you run a seaside second-hand bookshop. You stock books, choose scenic locations for the shop and meet local residents as the business moves through its coastal setting. The management layer is intentionally approachable: the pleasure comes from deciding what to carry and where to set up, then seeing how the town’s characters respond.
This is the best fit for players who want progress without reflex tests or combat. It works well for shorter sessions because a visit to the shop, a new location or a conversation can be satisfying on its own. Xbox’s April 2026 listing includes cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC access.
Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato: gentle fantasy with emotional stakes
Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato begins with Miho entering a magical world while fetching a potato for his grandmother. What sounds like a simple errand becomes a narrative adventure built around discovery, family and an increasingly strange journey.
Choose it when you want a warm, story-focused game and do not need complex combat systems. The tone makes it a useful change of pace after a large action title, while its magical premise gives the journey more momentum than a purely domestic slice-of-life story. Xbox lists cloud, console, handheld and PC access in the April 2026 release coverage.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Vampire Crawlers: card tactics in a dungeon “blobber”
Vampire Crawlers combines deck building, dungeon exploration and turn-based decisions in a card-driven “blobber” format. Xbox describes both tactical and fast-turn approaches, so it can appeal to players who like planning several moves ahead as well as those who prefer a brisker rhythm.
It is the most systems-heavy recommendation in the April group besides Hades II. Expect to spend time understanding cards, routes and combat choices rather than simply following a linear story. The release notes list cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC availability.
Kiln: the unusual online multiplayer option
Kiln turns pottery into an arena-game premise: players sculpt ceramic creations and then use those creations as their combat bodies. It is a rare example of a Game Pass multiplayer title whose central mechanic is also its visual identity.
Choose it for online sessions with friends when conventional shooters or sports games feel predictable. Because the appeal is tied to competition and player interaction, it is less suitable if you need a purely solo experience or a game that can be paused at any time. Xbox’s April 2026 notes list cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC access.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Easy Delivery Co.: scenic driving with a mystery underneath
Easy Delivery Co. is a relaxing driving game set in a mountain town. You make deliveries, encounter mysterious residents and uncover strange secrets as you learn the routes and the community around them.
The driving is a means of exploring the setting rather than a test of racing performance. It is a good evening game for players who want atmosphere, light objectives and curiosity-driven discovery. Xbox included it in the April 2026 “in case you missed it” section and listed cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC availability.
Super Meat Boy 3D: precision platforming for challenge seekers
Super Meat Boy 3D brings the established indie platforming series into three dimensions. Xbox calls it the latest game in the iconic series and lists it for cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Select it when your priority is demanding movement and repeated attempts at difficult sections. It is a poor match for a relaxing, narrative-first session: the satisfaction comes from precision, memorization and persistence. A controller is the practical choice for this kind of platforming, particularly on cloud or a handheld device.
Until Then: a coming-of-age story set in the 2010s Philippines
Until Then is a 2.5D coming-of-age story about love, grief and friendship in the 2010s Philippines. Its play combines texting, light minigames, pixel art and a mystery that unfolds through ordinary relationships and disruptions to them.
Xbox editor Raymond Estrada reported a playthrough of about 18 hours in the June 2026 Indie Selects feature. That is one editor’s experience, not a guaranteed completion time for every player. Choose this when characters and emotional pacing matter more to you than combat or elaborate systems.
Dorfromantik: five ways to build a landscape
Dorfromantik is a tile-placement game designed for short sessions and relaxed landscape building. Xbox’s September 2025 Indie Selects description names five modes:
- Classic for the standard score-and-expansion structure.
- Creative for unconstrained building.
- Quick for a shorter session.
- Hard for a stricter strategic challenge.
- Monthly for a recurring scenario format.
Its flexibility makes it one of the safest recommendations for a mixed household or a player unsure how much time they have. Start in Creative for pure composition, then move to Classic or Hard when you want objectives and pressure.

Monument Valley 3, from independent developer ustwo games, is an illusion-and-perspective puzzle adventure. You guide Noor through shifting structures while dealing with rising tides and the Sacred Light.
This is for players who prefer observation and spatial reasoning to speed. The central pleasure is understanding how a visual contradiction can become a usable path. Its presentation also makes it a strong handheld or cloud choice when you want a self-contained puzzle rather than a long progression loop. Xbox featured it in the August 2025 Indie Selects coverage.

Ratshaker: a short, strange experiment
Ratshaker is deliberately difficult to classify. Xbox’s August 2025 roundup presents it as a short experimental game that resists neat genre labels.
Play it when novelty matters more than a large content count. It is especially useful between longer games: the commitment is brief, the structure is unconventional and the experience is best approached without expecting familiar genre rules. Do not choose it for a traditional campaign, deep build system or predictable progression path.

Dome Keeper: defense with four-player multiplayer
Dome Keeper is the multiplayer recommendation for players who want to alternate between mining resources and defending a base. Xbox’s April 2026 release notes describe an update adding four-player co-op and versus modes.
The update is relevant if you already own or can access the base game; the notes do not establish that every edition or region has identical catalog treatment. Check the current listing before planning a group session. If the multiplayer update is available to you, it offers a more cooperative alternative to the solo focus of most games on this list.

If you are tired of AAA games
Start with Tiny Bookshop, Dorfromantik or Ratshaker. Their core pleasures are small-scale management, composition and experimentation rather than blockbuster spectacle. Sopa and Until Then also provide distinctive settings and personal stories without relying on familiar military or superhero formulas.
If you want the deepest replay value
Choose Hades II for action runs or Vampire Crawlers for deck and dungeon decisions. Both are built around repeating attempts and improving choices, but Hades II tests real-time execution while Vampire Crawlers emphasizes planning and card synergy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you need a game for short sessions
Dorfromantik has explicitly named short-session modes, while Easy Delivery Co. lets you complete deliveries and explore at your own pace. Ratshaker is the shortest-form recommendation in spirit, although Xbox’s feature does not provide a universal duration.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you play with friends
Kiln is the dedicated online arena choice. Dome Keeper is the cooperative-defense option, with Xbox describing four-player co-op as part of its multiplayer update. Verify whether the required base game and multiplayer content are included in your current region and tier.
If difficulty is the point
Pick Super Meat Boy 3D for precision platforming or Hades II for combat mastery. Dorfromantik also has a named Hard mode if you prefer strategic pressure without reflex-heavy controls.
Game Pass tiers, platforms and practical setup
Do not treat “on Game Pass” as a single universal entitlement. Xbox’s April 2026 release notes use different combinations of cloud, console, PC, handheld, Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass support. Replaced, for example, is specifically described as day one for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while several other April titles are listed across cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC.
Before downloading, open the game’s current Xbox catalog page and confirm:
- Your subscription tier includes the title.
- Your country or region has the same availability.
- Your device is supported: Xbox Series X|S, PC, cloud or a compatible handheld.
- Cloud play is enabled for your account if you intend to stream.
- Multiplayer access and any required online subscription are covered for the game you selected.
A controller is the practical accessory across console, PC, handheld and cloud play. Xbox’s April 7, 2026 Game Pass feature specifically advises players to bring controllers, keyboards and mice, and notes that headphones can matter for games with prominent soundtracks. Match the input to the game: a controller is generally preferable for Super Meat Boy 3D, Hades II and Kiln, while a keyboard and mouse may be more comfortable for some PC players in menu-heavy or strategy-oriented games.
How ID@Xbox helps you find smaller-studio games
ID@Xbox is Xbox’s official channel for bringing games from independent publishers to Xbox. Xbox describes it as “Bringing great games from independent publishers to XBOX.” Its editorial team also promotes selected titles through Game Pass release notes and the monthly Indie Selects features.
The catalog includes an Indie genre filter, and Xbox says day-one releases can come from indie studios. That makes the filter useful when you want to browse beyond major publishers, but it is not a legal test of studio size. The available material does not establish that every game in this guide comes from a company meeting one strict definition of “small.” Use “independent and smaller” here as a practical discovery category.
Xbox’s Indie Selects articles are editorial recommendations, not independent review scores. The August 2025, September 2025 and June 2026 features explain why their editors selected particular games, but they do not provide a universal ranking. Treat the list as a set of starting points and choose according to your preferred mood, difficulty and session length.
Quick Recap
A simple order for trying the list
- Check your platform and tier. Filter the live catalog for your device before committing to a download.
- Choose your session type. Select Hades II or Vampire Crawlers for repeatable systems, Until Then or Sopa for a narrative evening, or Dorfromantik and Tiny Bookshop for low-pressure play.
- Match the controls. Connect a controller for action and platforming; use keyboard and mouse on PC when that layout feels more natural for menus or strategy.
- Reserve multiplayer for a verified group session. Check Kiln’s online requirements or Dome Keeper’s current multiplayer availability before inviting friends.
- Recheck the catalog when you return. Game Pass removals, tier changes, regional restrictions and platform support can change after the dates cited by Xbox’s editorial features.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
