If you want wired performance features, the PowerA FUSION Pro 4 is the strongest value at its listed $79.99 price. Which Xbox controllers have a built-in headphone jack?
All current Xbox Series X|S controllers have a 3.5 mm headset jack on the bottom edge. Plug a compatible wired headset into that port and the Xbox routes game and chat audio through the controller. The jack is a standard feature on the current first-party Xbox Wireless Controller and on the licensed third-party models compared here.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The important qualification is that the jack is for a headset with a 3.5 mm plug. It does not by itself add wireless-headset support, provide a USB connection, or guarantee that every headset control scheme will work identically. A controller with a jack is the right purchase when you want to connect a conventional wired gaming headset directly to the gamepad.

The best choices, explained
Best for most players: Xbox Wireless Controller
The standard Xbox Wireless Controller is the least complicated recommendation. It uses the familiar current Xbox layout, works with the current console generation, and includes the 3.5 mm jack needed for a wired headset. Its first-party status also makes it the natural fit for players who want the standard button arrangement and broad accessory support rather than extra rear paddles or adjustable triggers.
Choose this model when your priorities are predictable setup, the conventional Xbox feel, and a controller that does not require an external wireless adapter or a special control-mapping system. The cited Xbox accessories catalog does not state a current price or provide a complete specification table, so check the listing for your region before buying. Color and edition availability can also differ by market.
Best wired feature-value pick: PowerA FUSION Pro 4
The FUSION Pro 4 is the clearest value choice if you are happy to play through a cable. PowerA lists it at $79.99 and includes Xbox licensing, compatibility with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11, and a 10 ft (3 m) braided USB-C cable. The long cable suits a desk or sofa setup without introducing battery charging or a wireless adapter.
Recommended Free Tools
Its headset controls are unusually convenient for the price: there is a 3.5 mm stereo jack, a dedicated headset-volume dial, and one-touch microphone mute. Four mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons let you move actions away from the face buttons, while three-way trigger locks shorten trigger travel for games in which rapid inputs matter. Dual rumble is included.
PowerA also lists Hall Effect modules and Quick-Twist thumbsticks. Hall Effect designs use contact-free magnetic sensing, which can reduce wear at the sensing point compared with conventional contact-based modules. That design is a durability feature, not a promise that a controller can never develop drift or another mechanical fault. Heavy use, contamination, impact, and other components can still affect reliability.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Buy the FUSION Pro 4 when you want competitive controls and direct headset adjustment at a moderate listed price. Do not buy it if a cable across your play space is unacceptable or if you specifically need wireless freedom.
Best premium wireless pick: PowerA FUSION Pro Wireless with Lumectra
The FUSION Pro Wireless with Lumectra combines the same type of competitive controls with cable-free play. PowerA lists a $169.99 price and includes a USB wireless adapter, a charging stand, and an internal rechargeable battery rated for up to 30 hours. “Up to 30 hours” is a manufacturer estimate; lighting, volume, play patterns, and battery condition can change actual runtime.
The controller has Hall Effect modules, four mappable buttons, three-way trigger locks, a 3.5 mm stereo jack, a headset-volume dial, and one-touch mic mute. Its Lumectra lighting is an aesthetic feature rather than a headset benefit, and it contributes to the overall premium positioning. The adapter is another item to manage, although it is included rather than sold separately.
This is the right choice when you want rear-button mapping, trigger adjustment, and a wired headset jack without remaining tethered to the console. Its higher price, adapter requirement, and rechargeable-battery management are the trade-offs. If you play near the console and do not need wireless operation, the wired FUSION Pro 4 provides the relevant control and headset features for substantially less at the listed prices.
Best retro-layout alternative: Hyperkin DuchesS
The Hyperkin DuchesS is designed for players who prefer the shape of the original Xbox Controller S. Xbox Wire describes it as a nostalgic replica with Hall Effect sticks, impulse triggers, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a detachable 10 ft USB-C cable. It works with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Its reason to exist is the layout and feel, not a broad list of extra rear controls. Someone who finds the modern Xbox shape comfortable should not choose it merely because it has a headset jack; that feature is already standard. Someone who specifically wants the Controller S profile may find the DuchesS more natural than the current first-party shape.

Older wired alternative: PowerA FUSION Pro 3
The FUSION Pro 3 remains relevant only when its price or availability makes it attractive. Its documented features include a 3.5 mm stereo jack, four mappable buttons, three-way trigger locks, swappable thumbsticks, dual rumble, and Xbox/PC compatibility. However, the manufacturer page currently displays the model as out of stock.
Treat it as a marketplace or clearance option, not the default recommendation. Check that the listing is for the exact FUSION Pro 3 model, includes the intended cable and accessories, and comes from a seller with a suitable return policy. If it costs close to a newer model, the newer model is the safer purchase.
Premium first-party option: Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2
The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is the premium first-party choice in Xbox’s accessories catalog. It makes sense for a player who specifically wants high-end customisation rather than simply needing a headphone jack. Current Series X|S controllers include the jack, but the cited catalog does not provide a complete current specification table or current pricing for the Elite Series 2.

Verify the exact edition, included accessories, warranty terms, and local price before buying. For a reader whose main requirement is wired headset audio, paying for an Elite model is difficult to justify unless its additional customisation is also important.
Wired or wireless: which is better for headset use?
Choose wired when you want the simplest audio path
- A wired controller does not need charging and cannot lose wireless connection because of battery depletion.
- The FUSION Pro 4’s 10 ft (3 m) cable gives useful reach for a desk or sofa while keeping the headset plugged directly into the controller.
- There is no wireless adapter to store, connect, or troubleshoot.
- The drawback is physical cable management. A cable can pull on the controller, cross a walkway, or limit where you can sit.
Choose wireless when freedom of movement matters more
- The FUSION Pro Wireless includes its USB adapter and a charging stand, so you can keep the controller off the cable during play.
- Its internal battery is rated for up to 30 hours, but that figure is not a guaranteed runtime for every use pattern.
- Wireless adds charging and adapter management. Keep the adapter accessible and charge the controller before a long session.
- The 3.5 mm jack still works for a wired headset; the controller’s wireless link is separate from the headset’s cable.
If you sit close to the console and value low maintenance, wired is the rational choice. If a cable would interfere with your seating position, the wireless FUSION Pro is the more flexible option. The standard Xbox Wireless Controller is the simpler wireless baseline when you do not need rear buttons or trigger locks.
How to connect a wired headset to an Xbox controller
- Use a headset with a 3.5 mm plug and insert it into the round jack on the bottom of the controller.
- Push the plug in until it clicks or seats fully. A partially inserted plug can produce missing game audio, one-sided sound, or a microphone that is not detected.
- Wait for the Xbox to route audio through the controller. Modern Xbox controllers are designed to handle this automatically.
- Open the Xbox guide and select the Audio controls if you need to adjust headset volume, the chat mixer, or output settings.
- Use the controller’s headset dial or mute control when your model provides one. On the FUSION Pro 4 and FUSION Pro Wireless, the dial changes headset volume and the dedicated control provides one-touch mic mute.
The headset jack is located on the controller, not on the console. That lets you keep chat audio close to your hands and avoids running a headset cable all the way to the console.
What to check when headset audio or chat is missing
No sound at all
- Remove and reinsert the 3.5 mm plug until it is fully seated.
- Open the Xbox guide’s Audio controls and check headset volume and output settings.
- Confirm that the headset itself is not muted and that its inline controls are set correctly.
- Try the headset with another compatible controller or device to separate a headset fault from a controller fault.
Game audio works but chat does not
- Open the guide’s Audio controls and inspect the chat mixer position.
- Check the headset microphone mute switch and the controller’s one-touch mute control, if present.
- Reconnect the plug after changing the setting so the Xbox can re-detect the headset connection.
Chat works but game audio is absent
- Return to the guide’s Audio controls and check headset volume and output selection.
- Move the chat mixer away from an extreme setting that could suppress game audio.
- Test another headset or controller before replacing hardware.
Understanding the features that affect headset buyers
Hall Effect modules
Hall Effect sticks and modules sense position magnetically without the same contact point used by many traditional joystick sensors. Manufacturers use that design to target improved longevity and reduced wear. It should be treated as a design advantage rather than an absolute guarantee against stick drift, broken springs, contamination, or other failures.
Assignable buttons
The FUSION Pro 4, FUSION Pro Wireless, and FUSION Pro 3 each document four mappable buttons. These can place a frequently used action under a finger that would otherwise remain on the stick. Mapping is valuable for competitive shooters, action games, and accessibility, but it also adds setup decisions that the standard Xbox Wireless Controller avoids.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Trigger locks
Three-way trigger locks provide multiple travel positions. A shorter pull can make rapid-fire inputs feel quicker, while a full-range position preserves the analog travel needed for racing or driving games. The lock is a control preference, not an audio feature.
Thumbstick adjustments and layout
Quick-Twist or swappable thumbsticks let you alter the stick top or height on supported models. The Hyperkin DuchesS takes a different approach by reproducing the older Controller S shape. Compare the hand position and button layout before prioritising a feature list; a controller with more options is not automatically more comfortable.
Compatibility details before you buy
The FUSION Pro 4, FUSION Pro Wireless with Lumectra, and Hyperkin DuchesS are listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11. The FUSION Pro Wireless uses its included USB wireless adapter for wireless operation. The FUSION Pro 4 and DuchesS use their included USB-C cables.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The standard Xbox Wireless Controller is the safest fit for a current Xbox console when you want the familiar first-party experience. For the Elite Series 2, verify the exact edition and platform details in the current listing because the cited catalog does not provide a complete specification table. A 3.5 mm jack does not make every controller identical: connection method, remapping support, cable length, and included accessories still differ.
Price, stock, and regional buying checks
PowerA’s current listed prices are $79.99 for the FUSION Pro 4 and $169.99 for the FUSION Pro Wireless with Lumectra. Those are manufacturer list prices, not a promise of the price you will see in every country, store, or promotion. Taxes, shipping, currency conversion, and temporary discounts can change the checkout total.
The FUSION Pro 3 is currently shown as out of stock on the manufacturer page, so a marketplace listing should be checked carefully rather than assumed to be an official current offer. The Hyperkin DuchesS also requires a stock and edition check. For the Xbox Wireless Controller and Elite Series 2, verify the current local listing because the cited catalog does not state prices for them.
- Confirm that the listing names the exact model and generation.
- Check whether the advertised cable, adapter, charging stand, and thumbsticks are included.
- Verify Xbox Series X|S and Windows compatibility if you plan to use both platforms.
- Check the seller’s return and warranty terms, especially for clearance or marketplace stock.
- Make sure a wired headset’s plug is 3.5 mm if the controller jack is the feature you need.
Which controller should you buy?
Buy the Xbox Wireless Controller if you want the normal Xbox shape, first-party simplicity, and a built-in jack without extra configuration. Buy the PowerA FUSION Pro 4 if you play near the console and want four mappable buttons, trigger locks, Hall Effect modules, and physical headset controls for a listed $79.99. Buy the PowerA FUSION Pro Wireless with Lumectra if you want those adjustment options without a cable and accept the $169.99 listed price, adapter, lighting, and charging requirements. Choose the Hyperkin DuchesS only when its retro Controller S layout is the deciding factor. Consider the FUSION Pro 3 only as a discounted or clearance find because the manufacturer currently shows it out of stock.
