- Image-led layouts: Check how featured images appear on the homepage and archive pages, and whether post pages provide readable text and control over image spacing and cropping.
- Editing workflow: Decide whether you prefer WordPress’s block editor or want a companion builder or a third-party page builder. More visual control can also mean more tools and complexity to manage.
- Customization: Look for the controls you need for headers, footers, typography, colors and templates.
- Commerce: If you intend to sell clothing or other products, check the theme’s WooCommerce support and whether the store is central to your site or an occasional addition.
- Maintenance and access: Check the update history, accessibility features and support, and identify which features require a paid upgrade.
- Cost and licensing: Confirm current pricing, renewal terms, site limits and included features on the vendor’s own site before buying.
These criteria help match a theme to your plans; they are not results from a controlled comparison. WordPress.org says its directory includes more than 15,000 free themes and offers subject and feature filters, so the candidates below are not the only options.

Astra: a flexible starting point for different workflows

That makes Astra a candidate if you want a blog-oriented theme that can also work with page-building tools or a store. The directory tags and publisher description establish listed capabilities, not how well a particular fashion site will perform. The installation count is reported by WordPress.org, not independently audited.
Kadence: a candidate for site-wide visual controls
Kadence’s WordPress.org listing reports version 1.5.2, last updated July 24, 2026, with 500,000 or more active installations. It is listed as free with paid upgrades; its directory features include Blog, Featured images and E-commerce. The description highlights a drag-and-drop header and footer builder, starter templates, and global font and color controls.
Those controls may suit a writer who wants to adjust the site’s visual identity without editing each page separately. They are vendor-described features, not an independent assessment of how easy the theme is to use or how it will look with your content.
Divi and Pepper+: verify before shortlisting
A WPBeginner fashion-theme roundup published May 13, 2025 names Divi, Astra and Pepper+ among its options. It describes Pepper+ as offering features including Google Fonts and WooCommerce support, and presents Astra as a multipurpose theme with templates. This is a useful lead for further evaluation, not a current product specification or a verified 2026 ranking.
A broader Elegant Themes comparison dated August 4, 2026 lists Divi 5, Kadence and Astra. It gives annual starting prices of $89 for Divi 5, $69 for Kadence and $59 for Astra. These are dated secondary figures from a theme vendor, not confirmed current prices. Check each vendor’s official terms for billing interval, renewals, site limits and included support before relying on them.

WordPress.org feature tags and vendor descriptions can help identify whether a theme advertises blog layouts, featured images or e-commerce support. They do not show that the theme will be fast on your site, rank well in search or meet your accessibility needs out of the box. No controlled comparison or hands-on test establishes a speed, accessibility or SEO winner among these candidates.
Likewise, large installation counts indicate reported adoption, not editorial quality or suitability for your particular design. Your finished site also depends on the photographs, writing, accessibility work and performance optimization you provide.

Which theme should you choose?
- Start with Astra if you want a current, widely installed candidate with listed blog, featured-image and e-commerce features, and the option to work with several named page-building tools.
- Start with Kadence if header and footer building, starter templates, and global font and color controls are priorities.
- Investigate Divi or Pepper+ if their design approach appeals to you, but verify current product availability, compatibility and feature lists with the vendors. Their appearance in a 2025 fashion roundup is not proof of current status.
Before settling on any option, check how its real layouts handle your own photography, post text, mobile screens and planned shop. Confirm which controls and support you need are included in the version you intend to use.
