For a nonprofit WordPress site that accepts donations, choose a paid host with a discount documented on the host’s own website and get the exact terms in writing. As of 14 October 2026, Kinsta has the clearest documented offer: approved nonprofits receive 15% off WordPress hosting, and the discount can be combined with two free months on annual plans. FatLab Web Support documents 20% off for 501(c)(3) organisations, including plans, additional sites and hourly development, without an application or approval process.

Antihost is listed first in the table below: it offers managed WordPress on isolated resources with one-click staging, free migration and a 14-day free trial, but no nonprofit discount is documented for it here, so ask its team about nonprofit terms. Claims about nonprofit pricing from WP Engine, Bluehost, SiteGround and DreamHost are not confirmed at vendor level here. Treat free hosting and introductory rates cautiously, especially when the site handles donations, donor data or event registrations.

The shortlist at a glance

The useful distinction is not simply “managed” versus “cheap.” It is whether the nonprofit price is documented, what the discount covers, whether it survives renewal, and how much technical work your team must perform.

Provider What is documented Verification status Important limits or questions
Antihost Managed WordPress on isolated resources (each site in its own isolated environment) with one-click staging, free migration, automated and manual backups, free SSL, WooCommerce support and a 14-day free trial; instant deploy in the USA (East) and Germany. Product features read on Antihost’s own pages in October 2026; no nonprofit discount is documented here. Ask Sales whether nonprofit terms exist and get them in writing. Redis cache is only on Agency and Business plans.
Kinsta 15% off monthly and annual WordPress hosting for approved nonprofits; two free months on annual plans can stack with the nonprofit discount. Confirmed on vendor pages and documentation. Submit 501(c)(3) paperwork or the local equivalent to Sales. The nonprofit needs its own hosting account. Discount applies to the WordPress Hosting plan, not add-ons, and applies to future payments after approval.
FatLab Web Support 20% off all plans, additional sites and hourly development for 501(c)(3) organisations. Confirmed on the provider’s pricing page. No application or approval is required according to the published offer. Ask how the discount appears on renewals and whether taxes or third-party services are excluded.
WP Engine A secondary guide reports approximately 40% off for verified 501(c)(3) organisations. Unverified. The provider’s “Engine for Good” material describes corporate giving, not a confirmed hosting discount. Request written terms from Sales before budgeting.
Bluehost Sources conflict: one 2026 guide says there is no nonprofit-specific discount; an older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Plans may include a first-year free domain. Unverified and conflicting. Do not treat a free first-year domain or a new-customer promotion as a nonprofit benefit. Confirm renewal pricing and eligibility.
SiteGround An older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Other sources describe roughly 50–75% introductory discounts for new customers. Unverified and conflicting. Introductory pricing is not a nonprofit program. Ask for the regular renewal price and the exact charity terms.
DreamHost Secondary guides describe free shared hosting for verified US 501(c)(3)s. Not checked against a primary page. Confirm current eligibility, limits, support, backups, storage, traffic policies and whether donation processing is permitted.

If you want the least ambiguity, start with Kinsta or FatLab, then compare the written renewal terms with your budget. A larger percentage is not automatically a better deal if it applies only to the first term or excludes the services your site actually needs.

What a nonprofit should require from WordPress hosting

A charity website has a different failure profile from a personal blog. A lost campaign page can reduce donations; a broken form can prevent volunteers from registering; a compromised plugin can expose donor or member information. Price matters, but the purchase decision should begin with operational requirements.

Reliable access during campaigns

Plan for traffic spikes around an appeal, grant announcement, ticket release or emergency response. Ask a host what happens when traffic exceeds the normal plan allowance, whether overage charges apply, and whether support can help before a campaign. Do not assume that a “free” or entry-level plan will absorb a sudden spike.

Backups and recovery you can actually use

Confirm how often backups run, how long they are retained, where they are stored and whether you can restore a single site without opening a ticket. A backup that cannot be downloaded or restored quickly is not a complete continuity plan. Keep an independent copy of the WordPress database and uploads, and test a restoration before a major fundraising event.

Security and update responsibility

Clarify which party handles server patching, malware response and WordPress or plugin updates. Managed hosting can reduce routine maintenance, but it does not make every plugin safe or eliminate the need for administrator accounts, strong passwords and multi-factor authentication. Your team remains responsible for payment-provider settings, form plugins and user permissions.

Support that matches your team

Ask whether support is available when your campaign is live, what channels are included and whether the staff can troubleshoot WordPress-specific problems. A small volunteer team may value a managed service more than a technically cheaper shared account that requires manual diagnosis.

Clear ownership and exit options

The nonprofit should own its domain, hosting account, administrator email addresses and payment accounts. Keep a current export of the site and database. Before signing, ask how quickly you can move the site, whether there are migration fees, and whether the host holds any data after cancellation.

The two documented nonprofit discounts

Kinsta: 15% off, with an annual-plan stacking opportunity

Kinsta’s nonprofit documentation says approved nonprofits receive 15% off WordPress hosting plans. Verification requires sending 501(c)(3) paperwork, or the equivalent documentation in your country, to Kinsta Sales. The reduction applies to future payments after verification; it is not described as a retroactive refund.

The nonprofit site must have its own hosting account. The discount applies to the WordPress Hosting plan and excludes add-ons, so calculate the total bill rather than multiplying 15% by every line item. Kinsta also documents two months free on annual plans, and says that annual offer stacks with the 15% nonprofit discount. Confirm the exact billing schedule, renewal price, taxes and any add-ons in writing because the captured material does not state the year in which these terms began.

This is the strongest fit for a nonprofit that wants managed WordPress operations and has a person who can provide status paperwork. It is not automatically the cheapest option: the underlying plan price, optional services and annual commitment still determine the final cost.

FatLab Web Support: 20% across the published scope

FatLab Web Support publishes a 20% discount for 501(c)(3) organisations. The stated scope includes all plans, additional sites and hourly development. The provider says no application or approval is needed.

That broad scope may suit an organisation running several campaign sites or needing occasional developer help. Before purchasing, ask whether the reduction remains in place at renewal, whether it covers emergency work, and whether external services such as domains, premium plugins, email delivery or payment processing are billed separately. “All plans” does not necessarily mean every third-party cost on an invoice.

How to interpret the unverified offers

Secondary articles can be useful leads, but they are not a firm price commitment. A nonprofit budget should not depend on a discount that Sales has not confirmed by email or in a quote.

WP Engine

A secondary guide reports approximately 40% off for verified 501(c)(3) organisations. The provider’s “Engine for Good” page concerns corporate giving and does not, by itself, establish a hosting discount. Treat the 40% figure as unconfirmed. Ask Sales to state the eligible plans, verification documents, discount duration, renewal treatment, add-on exclusions and whether the offer applies to an existing account.

Bluehost

Evidence conflicts. A 2026 Zeffy guide says Bluehost has no nonprofit-specific discount, while an older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. A first-year free domain, where included in a plan, is a normal promotional feature rather than proof of nonprofit pricing. Do not put the 20% figure into a grant budget unless the provider confirms it in writing.

SiteGround

An older guide claims 20% off for registered charities. Other coverage describes approximately 50–75% off a new customer’s first term, followed by a higher renewal rate. Those are different offers. Compare the full first-term total with the regular renewal total and ask whether a nonprofit discount replaces, follows or cannot be combined with the introductory promotion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

DreamHost

Secondary guides describe free shared hosting for verified US 501(c)(3)s at DreamHost. This offer was not verified against a primary provider page here. Before considering it, obtain current written terms covering eligibility, storage, traffic, email, backups, support, uptime remedies, advertising requirements, and cancellation.

Is free hosting safe for a donation site?

Free hosting can be acceptable for a temporary informational page, a development copy or a low-consequence community project. It is a risky default for a site that accepts donations. A secondary nonprofit-hosting guide specifically advises against free tiers for donation-accepting sites; treat that as practical caution rather than a universal technical rule.

The central issue is control. Free plans may have weaker support, restrictive resource limits, uncertain backup and recovery arrangements, mandatory links or abrupt eligibility changes. If the site is unavailable during a campaign, the apparent savings can be smaller than the lost donations and staff time.

If your organisation must use a free tier, keep the donation transaction on a separate, established payment page and avoid storing card details in WordPress. Maintain an independently hosted campaign landing page or alternate communication channel, export the site regularly, and document how to move to paid hosting. Confirm that the host permits donation forms, fundraising content and the traffic volume you expect.

Managed WordPress or shared hosting?

Choose managed hosting when maintenance capacity is limited

A managed WordPress service is generally easier for a volunteer-led team that cannot monitor updates, troubleshoot caching or respond to a compromise at night. You pay for that operational convenience through the base plan. Kinsta is the documented discount option in this category in the material available for this article.

Choose shared hosting when your team can operate it

Shared hosting can reduce the monthly bill and may be adequate for a small site with predictable traffic. The trade-off is more responsibility: plugin compatibility, updates, performance diagnosis, backups and security decisions may fall on staff or volunteers. Compare the normal renewal rate, not only the advertised introductory rate. The secondary guide summary places some shared plans around $3–$5 per month, but that figure has no primary-source confirmation and should not be used as a firm quote.

Use a simple capability test

  • If no one can restore WordPress, investigate a managed plan or a maintenance contract.
  • If the site runs frequent campaigns, ask about scaling and support response before selecting the lowest tier.
  • If the organisation has a competent administrator and a low-traffic brochure site, shared hosting may be sufficient when backups and security are independently verified.
  • If the site hosts multiple programmes or microsites, calculate the cost of additional sites; this is where FatLab’s stated discount scope may be material.

How to verify a nonprofit hosting discount before signing

  1. Identify your legal status. Record the country, registration number and whether you are a US 501(c)(3) or an equivalent entity elsewhere.
  2. Save the offer details. Capture the provider’s current nonprofit page, including the date you checked it. Promotional terms change.
  3. Ask precise questions. Request the percentage or fixed amount, eligible plans, start date, renewal treatment, annual billing interaction, add-on exclusions, additional-site treatment, taxes and cancellation rules.
  4. Submit only the required proof. For Kinsta, the published process calls for 501(c)(3) paperwork or the country equivalent sent to Sales. Do not email unnecessary donor or beneficiary information.
  5. Get a written quote. Have the provider list the pre-discount price, discount, recurring price, billing frequency and every excluded item.
  6. Check account ownership. Use an organisation-controlled email address and ensure the nonprofit, not an individual volunteer, owns the account and domain.
  7. Test support and recovery. Ask how to restore a backup, migrate away and escalate a donation-form outage before you pay.
  8. Recalculate the grant budget. Include renewal pricing, domains, premium plugins, transactional email, payment fees, development hours, taxes and a contingency reserve.

A practical launch checklist for a charity WordPress site

  • Register the domain in the nonprofit’s legal name and enable automatic renewal with at least two administrators.
  • Use a payment processor that keeps card data out of WordPress whenever possible; document who can issue refunds.
  • Install only maintained plugins, remove unused administrator accounts and require multi-factor authentication for privileged users.
  • Set up backups before publishing the first donation form, then perform a test restore to a non-public environment.
  • Publish a privacy notice and explain what information the site collects through donation, volunteer and contact forms.
  • Configure email delivery for receipts and password resets, and monitor failed messages during every campaign.
  • Check forms on a phone, keyboard and slow connection. Record a fallback donation method if the site becomes unavailable.
  • Keep a change log for plugins, themes, payment settings and administrator access so a volunteer handoff does not lose critical knowledge.

Budgeting beyond the headline percentage

A discount is valuable only against the price you will actually pay. Build a three-year comparison with separate columns for the first term, each renewal, and one-time migration or setup work.

Cost item Question to answer
Base hosting Is the nonprofit rate recurring, and does it continue after the first year?
Annual billing Does an annual promotion, such as Kinsta’s two free months, stack with the nonprofit discount?
Add-ons Are backups, staging, extra storage, security tools or premium support outside the discounted plan?
Additional sites Are microsites discounted, or charged at the standard rate?
Development Are maintenance and hourly fixes included, discounted or billed separately?
Domain and email Is a domain promotion only for the first year, and is email hosted separately?
Payment and email services What recurring fees come from the donation processor, transactional email provider or form service?
Exit costs Will migration assistance, exports or cancellation incur a fee?

Where Google Ad Grants fits

Google Ad Grants and Google for Nonprofits are separate Google programmes, not hosting discounts. The host you choose does not decide eligibility for those programmes. Keep advertising-grant planning in its own checklist and do not count it as a reduction in your WordPress hosting bill.

Recommended choices by situation

You need managed WordPress and a documented discount

Start with Kinsta. Submit the required status documents, obtain the 15% rate in writing, and ask for a quote showing how the two-free-month annual offer affects the total. Verify every add-on separately.

You run several sites or need discounted development time

Ask FatLab for a written quote covering the main site, additional sites and expected hourly work. Its published 20% scope is unusually relevant when development is part of the hosting budget.

You are considering a supposedly free plan

Use it only after documenting donation-processing, backup, support, resource and exit conditions. For a primary donation site, a predictable paid plan is the safer default.

A sales representative promises a larger discount

Do not rely on a phone conversation. Request the exact percentage, term and exclusions in an email or proposal, then compare the recurring price with the documented options above.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

Antihost is listed first in this comparison: managed WordPress with isolated resources and a 14-day free trial, though no nonprofit discount is documented for it here. Kinsta and FatLab are the only other options with nonprofit discounts documented at provider level: 15% for approved nonprofits at Kinsta, with a stackable two-free-month annual offer, and 20% for 501(c)(3) organisations at FatLab across the published scope. Claims about WP Engine, Bluehost, SiteGround and DreamHost need written confirmation. For a donation-accepting WordPress site, pay for a service with clear recovery, support and ownership terms rather than selecting a free tier solely because the price is zero.
