Best WordPress Calendar Plugins in 2026: Choose by What You Need

Choose a WordPress calendar plugin by workflow: event publishing, booking and appointment management, or ticketing. Here is what the listings say about The Events Calendar, Events Manager, and other options.

There is no single best WordPress calendar plugin for every site. For publishing events with calendar views, start by comparing The Events Calendar. If your site needs bookings, appointments, or time slots as well as event listings, consider Events Manager. Ticketing and paid bookings require a closer look at each plugin’s paid features and the exact payment workflow you need.

First decide what your calendar must do

A calendar can simply display events, or it can manage a transaction or appointment from start to finish. These are different jobs, so compare plugins against your workflow rather than choosing by name or directory popularity.

  • Publish events: Create event pages, show them in calendar or list views, and let visitors find event details.
  • Manage bookings: Let visitors reserve places, register, or book appointments and time slots.
  • Sell or manage tickets: Check whether the plugin supports your required payment method, ticket delivery, and check-in process. A general mention of ticketing does not establish that every payment workflow is included.

The Events Calendar: a starting point for event publishing

The Events Calendar’s WordPress.org listing describes its free plugin as a tool for creating and displaying events. Listed features include venue and organizer records, month, list, and day views, event search, calendar exports, and responsive layouts. See The Events Calendar’s WordPress.org listing.

Where its paid features fit

The listing describes recurring events and additional calendar views as features of Events Calendar Pro. It also names separate add-ons for imports, tickets, submissions, and filtering. If a specific capability is essential, verify which product or add-on supplies it and whether it supports your intended payment flow before committing.

Best fit

Consider it when the main requirement is publishing events and presenting them in useful calendar views. If booking appointments or handling reservations is central to the site, compare its available ticketing or booking-related products with a plugin built around booking workflows.

Events Manager: a broader booking and scheduling workflow

Events Manager’s WordPress.org listing describes event calendars, lists, grids, search pages, and booking forms, alongside recurring events and timeslots for appointment-style scheduling. Bookings, reservations, appointments, event registration, and ticketing are part of the plugin’s stated scope. See Events Manager’s WordPress.org listing.

Where its paid features fit

The listing places payment gateways, custom booking forms, PDF tickets, QR check-in, and other advanced capabilities in Events Manager Pro. Treat this as a prompt to check the current feature and plan boundaries: the directory description does not establish that every gateway, ticket option, or booking configuration will suit your site.

Best fit

Consider Events Manager when visitors need to reserve, register, book a time, or interact with an event beyond viewing its details. Confirm the booking rules and payment features against your exact needs before choosing a paid plan.

How the two options differ

Need The Events Calendar Events Manager
Basic event display Free listing describes event creation, venue and organizer records, month, list, and day views, search, and calendar exports. Listing describes calendars, lists, grids, search pages, and booking forms.
Recurring events and scheduling Recurring events and additional views are listed as Pro capabilities. Listing describes recurring events and timeslots, including appointment-style scheduling.
Bookings and appointments Event Tickets and related add-ons address RSVP and ticketing needs; verify the specific payment workflow. Bookings, reservations, appointments, registration, and ticketing are part of the stated scope.
Paid capabilities described Pro adds recurring events and additional views; the listing also names add-ons for imports, tickets, submissions, and filtering. Pro listing includes payment gateways, custom booking forms, PDF tickets, QR check-in, and other advanced features.

These are publisher-described features, not results of comparative testing. Available evidence does not establish which plugin is faster, easier to use, more accessible, better supported, or cheaper overall.

Other WordPress calendar plugins to investigate

Sugar Calendar is another option in the official WordPress.org plugin directory. Its listing includes a changelog entry for version 3.13.0 dated 2026-08-19, but the available feature detail is not sufficient for a like-for-like ranking against the two plugins above. See Sugar Calendar’s WordPress.org listing.

The WordPress.org calendar category also includes other event timetable and booking tools. A directory listing by itself is not enough to establish feature fit or quality; compare the plugin’s current documentation and compatibility information before installing it. See the WordPress.org events plugin category.

A checklist before choosing

Write down the workflow your site actually needs, then check the plugin listing and current product documentation for each item:

  • Do you need one-off events, recurring events, appointments, or a mix?
  • Which calendar views and search or filtering options do visitors need?
  • Will people RSVP, register, reserve a place, or book a specific time slot?
  • Do you need payment gateways, and are the required gateways available in the right tier?
  • Are PDF tickets, QR check-in, or another ticket-delivery and entry process necessary?
  • Do required imports, submissions, or integrations need a separate add-on?
  • Does the plugin support your WordPress setup, and is its support appropriate for your site?
  • What is the total cost for the plugin, required tier, and any necessary add-ons?

Check current pricing, plan boundaries, and compatibility on each publisher’s site before buying: those details can change, and a premium feature list does not by itself settle the cost or fit for your particular setup.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
