There is no single WooCommerce email customizer that is best for every store. Choose by the emails you need to edit, how much layout control you want, and whether your store relies on extension-generated emails. For basic styling and text changes to core WooCommerce emails, Kadence WooCommerce Email Designer is a straightforward option. For drag-and-drop layouts or specific integrations, compare YayMail and WooCommerce’s separate Email Customizer and Designer extension against your exact requirements.
Do you still need a plugin to customize WooCommerce emails?
Not necessarily for every change. The options covered here add visual design and editing workflows beyond relying on a plugin’s default email presentation. They focus on transactional emails—such as order and customer messages—not on replacing a marketing automation platform or the service that delivers email.
A customizer is useful when you want to change the appearance or copy of transactional messages without building each layout yourself. Before choosing one, identify the specific emails you send, including emails added by other WooCommerce extensions. General WooCommerce compatibility does not establish that a customizer can edit or preview every extension’s messages.
WooCommerce email customizer options compared
| Option | How it works | Potential fit | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| YayMail / Email Customizer for WooCommerce | Drag-and-drop blocks and live preview; free plugin covers 15 standard WooCommerce templates, according to YayCommerce. | Stores that want more layout control or need a documented integration. | Whether the integration is included or requires a separately sold add-on, plus current requirements and price. |
| Kadence WooCommerce Email Designer | Uses the WordPress Customizer for design and text edits to core WooCommerce emails; supports preview, test email, and import/export. | Stores seeking a simpler workflow for core email styling and copy. | Whether extension-specific emails can be edited or previewed; check current support and maintenance. |
| WooCommerce Email Customizer and Designer | A separate WooCommerce extension with drag-and-drop elements for order, billing, shipping, and social content, plus preview and test-email options. | Stores that want modular layout elements. | Confirm the exact product listing, feature tier, compatibility, and current price. It is not the same product as YayCommerce’s similarly named Marketplace listing. |
How to choose for your store
Choose by email coverage first
List the transactional emails your store actually sends: core order and customer messages, plus any generated by subscriptions, bookings, memberships, shipping, or other extensions you use. Then compare that list with the customizer’s documented template and integration support. Kadence says extension-added emails generally inherit styles, but may not be editable or previewable through its plugin. Do not assume that a styled email is also available for editing.

Decide whether you need copy editing or layout control
If your main goal is to adjust the design and wording of core messages, Kadence’s WordPress Customizer approach may be sufficient. If you want to arrange content in blocks or need a particular extension integration, examine YayMail’s feature and add-on boundaries. The separate WooCommerce Email Customizer and Designer is another drag-and-drop option; verify its current feature tier before comparing it with the others.
Compare the preview and test workflow
A visual preview helps you inspect a message while building it; a test send lets you check what arrives in an inbox. Confirm that the plugin offers the workflow you need and test the resulting emails on a staging store with representative orders and extension-generated messages.

Check the full cost and requirements
Compare the license term and renewal cost, not just the first listed price. Also check whether a required integration is a paid add-on and confirm the plugin’s current WordPress, WooCommerce, and PHP requirements against your store. Product listings and compatibility details can change.
What the current listings establish—and what they do not
The WooCommerce Marketplace listing for Email Customizer for WooCommerce by YayCommerce showed a one-year price of $99 and a two-year option listed at $198 with 20% savings ($158.40) when accessed on September 30, 2026. These are listing details, not guaranteed future prices. The same page showed version 4.4.4 and 900+ active installs, but those figures do not establish superior performance or suitability.

That Marketplace page also reports differing minimum and required-version fields: minimum WordPress 4.7, WooCommerce 3.0.0, and PHP 5.4, but separate required-version fields of WordPress 5.2 and WooCommerce 4.0.0. Because the listing is internally inconsistent, confirm the requirements directly on the current product page before installation rather than treating any one set as definitive.
YayCommerce describes its free YayMail plugin as supporting 15 standard WooCommerce templates, with Pro and separate add-ons extending features and integrations. Its YayMail product page is the place to check which integration or feature is included in the edition you intend to use.
Rank #4
The Kadence WooCommerce Email Designer listing describes design and text editing for core WooCommerce emails, along with preview, test-email, and import/export features. It notes that extension-added emails may inherit styles without being editable or previewable in the plugin. Check the listing and product documentation for current support before relying on it for a specific extension.
WooCommerce also documents a distinct Email Customizer and Designer product with drag-and-drop elements for common design and order/customer data, plus preview and test-send options. Keep its identity separate from YayCommerce’s Marketplace product when comparing features or costs.
Safe selection and rollout checklist
- Write down the core and extension-generated emails that matter to your store.
- Check each candidate’s documented templates and named integrations; verify whether needed features are included or sold separately.
- Compare copy editing, layout flexibility, preview, test-send, license terms, and current software requirements.
- Install the chosen option on a staging store and preview or send tests for representative order states and extension-generated messages.
- Review the received emails before applying the customization to the live store.
Product descriptions and marketplace metadata support a use-case comparison, not a universal ranking: no independent comparative performance testing is established for these options.
